For East Tennessee residents and visitors seeking an exceptional outdoor experience, the name Warriors' Path State Park instantly brings to mind recreation, nature, and family fun. At the heart of this incredible park, nestled beside the beautiful Patrick Henry Reservoir on the Holston River, is the Warriors' Path Main Campground. This destination is far more than just a place to park your camper or pitch a tent; it is a gateway to one of the region’s most amenity-rich state parks.
Located just outside Kingsport, the Main Campground provides a traditional, shady, and welcoming setting for families. Campers frequently praise the facility for its clean environment and the genuinely friendly, helpful staff, including the attentive camp store clerks and on-site hosts. It’s a place where wildlife, such as deer, is a common and cherished sight, enhancing that genuine connection to nature that locals treasure.
Introduction / Overview
The Warriors' Path Main Campground is the primary camping area within the highly acclaimed Warriors' Path State Park. It is designed to accommodate a variety of camping styles, primarily offering sites with essential water and electric hookups. Many sites are well-shaded by the surrounding Tennessee woods, providing a cool retreat during the warmer months.
While the campground sites themselves are described by some visitors as being on the smaller side—a common characteristic of older, well-loved state park campgrounds—the sheer volume of activities and top-tier amenities available within the immediate vicinity of the park more than compensate. Unlike some neighboring campgrounds that offer full sewer hookups, the Main Campground maintains a more traditional setup, though it ensures that all necessary conveniences are readily available. It operates with a clear commitment to providing a recreational space, enforcing a 14-day maximum stay limit to ensure the sites remain available for vacationing families across the state.
Location and Accessibility
Warriors' Path State Park is conveniently located just off the Holston River in Sullivan County, making it easily accessible for East Tennessee locals and travelers alike. The park’s full address is 490 Hemlock Road, Kingsport, TN 37663, placing it near the Colonial Heights area.
Accessibility is a significant advantage, particularly for those driving in with RVs or trailers. The park is located less than a mile from Interstate 81 (Exit 59), ensuring a quick transition from the highway to your campsite. This easy access is invaluable for weekend getaways or even a mid-week escape without a long, difficult drive on secondary roads. While there can be some road noise from I-81, especially on weekend evenings, this typically dissipates, allowing for a peaceful stay among the trees.
The campground’s proximity to Kingsport (only about 10 minutes away) means quick trips for groceries, dining, or any forgotten essentials are simple, combining a secluded natural setting with urban convenience.

The Main Campground is equipped with all the core services necessary for a comfortable camping vacation, with a dedicated staff ensuring cleanliness and functionality:

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
The Warriors' Path Main Campground is perfectly suited for Tennessee locals in the Tri-Cities area and beyond who are seeking an accessible, amenity-packed vacation without the long drive to the far ends of the state. Its status as a beloved State Park campground means the experience is focused on outdoor recreation, family engagement, and community building.
Local families return to this campground time and again because the offerings—from the one-of-a-kind Boundless Playground to the well-maintained golf course and the full marina—create a complete vacation package. The strict 14-day stay limit ensures the campground retains its character as a true recreational destination, consistently turning over sites so that every family has a chance to enjoy the wooded beauty and the waters of the Patrick Henry Reservoir. The combination of clean facilities, friendly staff, and an unparalleled wealth of activities right outside your tent or RV makes the Warriors' Path Main Campground a highly recommended and reliably excellent choice for an East Tennessee getaway.

Campsites are very small, but most are very well shaded. Facilities were clean and everyone was very friendly. Very cute camp store with a very friendly and helpful clerk/check-in agent. On Friday evening there was some road noise from I-81 which is less than a mile away, but the rest of the weekend it wasn't bad at all. Lots to do at Warriors Path SP, apparently even boat rentals. Beware the shower heads in the main bathhouse! They are brutal!
Sep 07, 2025 · Ben BarwickWe camp here ask the time in a pop up camper. Have stayed at multiple different sites. The scenery around the park is beautiful with lots of deer and other wildlife. The campstore has a decent selection of gifts and is very cute inside. There is a walking only trail that takes you around the campground but down by the lake. There is a spot where you can swim but please wear a life jacket the reservoir water has currents that may be unseen and drowning have occurred. There's not really a designated swimming area but you can take the trail down to the lake and see where most people swim fun the campground or you can walk or drive over to duck island and swim there still not a specific designated swim area but there is a good spot to swim or paddleboard, kayak, fish, or just enjoy nature and the outdoors. There's a marina that serves food where you can also rent paddleboards or paddle boats etc. There's an awesome discount golf course in the park and a boundless playground for people of all ages and abilities. A little creek runs through the playground with a tree house and a story along the trail. There's also a boat ramp and a few docks to fish from. On duck island you will find some basketball and tennis courts as well as various shelters which must be reserved thru the website or park office. The main campground has 3 bath houses throughout the campground and a playground. All sites have power and water but a few sites are not suitable for campers or rvs they are tent only. There are 2 dumpstations in the main campground no sewer hookups at the campsites. And dumpsters available to dispose of trash. There's an amphitheater where the park rangers host various events and church on Sundays. A campground host on site to assist with any needs. We always have a good time camping here. The only negative points I have are that some campsites below the playground tend to flood very quickly during heavy rains and the water may not drain for quite some time so plan accordingly. And this campground is not intended for long term stays. There is a 14 day maximum stay this is in place to deter locals from "living in the campground" and turning other people's vacation into a nightmare. (This is only my assumption as to why they have that rule but it makes sense honestly) If you are considering camping at Warriors Path State Park Campground in Kingsport, TN I highly recommend it. There's Plenty to offer beyond what I've mentioned and you won't be disappointed. Happy camping🛶🛝⛺️🏞🚲🐾
