For Illinois residents, accessibility to Bridge 14 is generally straightforward, though it requires navigating some rural roads. As noted by a reviewer, if traveling by motorcycle, be aware that the final two miles to the campground are on gravel roads, which might require extra caution for some vehicles. Despite this, the overall journey offers scenic views of the Illinois countryside, preparing visitors for the natural beauty that awaits. The campground's proximity to the main towpath means that once you've arrived, you have immediate access to miles of flat, surfaced trails perfect for hiking and bicycling. The Hennepin Canal Visitor Center, located near Sheffield off of I-80 (Exit 45), is also a convenient point of reference and a great place to gather information about the entire canal system. I’m gonna give it five stars because of location and beauty. By far this location is the best of the rest as far as beauty and privacy . Take heed if you’re on a motorcycle there’s only two ways to get here both of which are down 2 miles of gravel so if you’re afraid of rocks and clay think twice.. There is good space for a few campers (5 couples tops) but unfortunately, there’s only two fire pits and two picnic tables so the other three couples/campers if they dont know the other folks they would be without a fire pit and a table which in the scheme of things is no big deal. Please note: There’s only one issue with this location and that is, It’s about 2-3 miles straight across a cornfield from the expressway and every car and semi truck that goes by You can hear the road noise . the good thing Is you get used to it unless they hit the rumble strip and then it reminds you that you’re acornfield away From progress. Which in many cases and for many people, it shouldn’t bother them because they vote for and like progress.. this location is kept up nicely and very clean thank you to everyone who camps here and visit this place for taking out what you bring in and you throw your garbage in the can that’s next to the parking lot . It was nice to see the Eagles here as well . Follow me and all my travels around the country on Instagram at mylifemyterms55

Mar 16, 2025 · William ManonThis is a quiet campground and in the country away from noise, but not to far from the interstate. You do have to go on a dirt road a little over a mile to get to it. The road was not bad when we went. The parking is mostly grass and a little unlevel. Not to many spots for campers but grassy area for tents. No sites marked where to camp. There are pit toilets but did not use. No other facilities available there. Visitor Center is supposed to have water which is about a mile and a half away.
Sep 03, 2022 · Nan GIf you love the constant roar of semi trucks on I-80. This is the place for you. Lock 17 and 21 are way better!
