Indiana Beach Camp Grounds About
For Indiana residents seeking a lively and amenity-rich camping experience, Indiana Beach Camp Grounds in Monticello presents a unique proposition. Located at 2732 NW Shafer Dr, Monticello, IN 47960, this campground is most notably connected to the iconic Indiana Beach Amusement Park, offering a blend of outdoor recreation and thrilling rides. It aims to be a vibrant destination for families, groups, and anyone looking for a dynamic getaway on Lake Shafer.
The campground offers a variety of camping options, including spacious sites suitable for both RVs and tents. A key highlight is the complimentary trolley service that provides convenient transportation directly to and from Indiana Beach Amusement Park, making it incredibly easy for campers to enjoy the park's attractions without worrying about parking or driving. The on-site camp store is also a significant convenience, praised by visitors for stocking everything needed for a comfortable stay.
However, it's important for prospective visitors to understand the nature of the campground. While it boasts many positives for family fun and accessibility, reviews suggest it can be a very active and sometimes noisy environment, particularly in certain sections. Issues related to bathhouse cleanliness and lifeguard presence have also been noted. For those who prioritize a quieter, more secluded camping experience, some areas of the campground might be less suitable. Conversely, for those who thrive in a bustling, social atmosphere with ample entertainment options, Indiana Beach Camp Grounds offers a distinct appeal. The aim here is to provide a factual overview, allowing Indiana locals to determine if this energetic and amenity-rich campground aligns with their ideal outdoor adventure.
Indiana Beach Camp Grounds is strategically located at 2732 NW Shafer Dr, Monticello, IN 47960, USA. This prime position in Monticello, Indiana, places it directly on the shores of Lake Shafer, a popular recreational lake in the state, and, most notably, right next to the Indiana Beach Amusement Park. This accessibility is a major draw for Indiana residents looking for a convenient and action-packed getaway.
Monticello itself is easily accessible from various parts of Indiana. It is approximately a 1.5-hour drive northwest of Indianapolis and about an hour's drive from Lafayette, making it a manageable journey for many. Major state roads like US-24 and US-421 connect directly to the Monticello area, ensuring relatively smooth travel to the campground. Once in Monticello, clear signage will direct visitors to the Indiana Beach complex, where the campground is situated.
Within the campground and its immediate vicinity, accessibility is generally good. The most significant feature in terms of accessibility is the complimentary trolley service. This service provides a seamless and convenient way for campers to travel between their campsites and the Indiana Beach Amusement Park without having to worry about parking at the park. This is a huge benefit for families, allowing them to maximize their time enjoying the rides and attractions. The sites themselves are described as large, which typically aids in easier maneuvering for RVs.
However, one recurring point of feedback regarding accessibility and convenience relates to visitor parking. The policy allows only one vehicle per site, with additional vehicles required to park in a small grass area near the office. Reports indicate that this area frequently becomes full, leading to challenges with parking and even parking violations for vehicles parked in unauthorized spots. This is an important consideration for groups or families planning to arrive with multiple vehicles. Despite this specific challenge, the overall access to Lake Shafer and the amusement park via the trolley service makes Indiana Beach Camp Grounds highly accessible for its primary purpose: a fun-filled family vacation spot in Indiana.
Campsites: The campground offers a variety of spacious sites suitable for both RVs and tents. These sites are generally described as clean and not overly wooded, providing open spaces for campers.
Utility Hookups: While not explicitly detailed for all sites, electrical hookups are available (as noted by a customer who had an issue quickly resolved), and it is typical for campgrounds of this size to offer water hookups as well. Sewer hookups may be available on select sites or a dump station on-site.
Complimentary Trolley Service: A major convenience is the trolley service that provides free and easy transportation between the campground and the Indiana Beach Amusement Park. This eliminates the need for driving and parking at the park.
Camp Store: An "awesome" on-site camp store is available, stocked with essential supplies, snacks, drinks, and potentially camping gear, making it easy for campers to get what they need without leaving the grounds.
Bathhouses/Restrooms: Shower and restroom facilities are available. However, some reviews indicate that these facilities may not receive consistent attention regarding cleanliness, with reports of muddy floors and lack of toilet paper at times. This is an area noted for potential improvement.
Splash Pad: A splash pad for kids is a feature, providing a fun water play area, though concerns have been raised about lifeguard attentiveness. The splash pad itself was noted as being very clean.
Playground/Kid-Friendly Activities: The overall environment is described as kid-friendly, with plenty to do, although specific structured activities for children beyond the splash pad are not detailed in reviews.
Visitor Parking: A designated small grass area for visitor parking is provided, though it can become full. Policy allows only one vehicle per site, with others needing to use this designated area.
Direct Amusement Park Access: The most significant highlight is the campground's direct connection to Indiana Beach Amusement Park. The complimentary trolley service makes it incredibly easy and convenient to access all the rides, shows, and attractions, setting this campground apart from many others in Indiana.
Kid-Friendly Environment: The campground is designed with families in mind, offering a splash pad (noted for cleanliness), spacious sites, and a general atmosphere conducive to children's enjoyment, making it a popular choice for family vacations.
Spacious and Clean Sites: Reviewers generally note that the campsites themselves are large and kept clean, providing ample room for campers to set up and relax without feeling overcrowded.
Well-Stocked Camp Store: The on-site camp store receives positive feedback for being "awesome" and well-stocked with everything campers might need, eliminating the need to leave the campground for supplies.
Lake Shafer Proximity: Being located on Lake Shafer, campers have easy access to the lake for various water activities, although specific details on lake access points from the campground itself are not highlighted in reviews.
Lively Atmosphere: For those who enjoy a bustling and energetic camping environment, the campground offers a vibrant scene, especially in certain areas, with music and social activity. This is a highlight for campers seeking a more "wild crowd" experience rather than quiet solitude.
While specific, detailed promotions for Indiana Beach Camp Grounds are best confirmed directly with the park, campgrounds associated with amusement parks often have certain types of offers. As a major attraction in Indiana, they might offer:

Multi-Night Stay Discounts: Campgrounds sometimes offer reduced nightly rates for stays of three nights or more, or for weekly bookings, especially during off-peak seasons.
Seasonal Specials: Keep an eye out for special pricing or events during specific times of the year, such as early bird booking discounts, or themed weekend packages that might include unique activities.
Group Rates: For larger groups or family reunions, it's worth inquiring if they offer discounted rates for booking multiple campsites together.

Customer Reviews
We stayed the weekend at the campground for the first time this past weekend. Long story short, we had a good time, but there could be a lot of improvements as well. Read on for details. The positives..It is a very cool place with plenty to do. It is kid-friendly. It was super easy taking the trolly to Indiana Beach and back. The sites were large and clean. It was not overly wooded. The camp store was awesome and had everything we needed. The negatives..the bathhouses didn’t receive much attention during our stay. The floors stayed muddy and slick the whole time. They were so bad that my 5 year old told me to bring a potty chair next time so she doesn’t have to use them again. We also ran in to stalls without toilet paper several times. Then there was the noise level. It is more of a wild crowd than what I’ve seen in other campgrounds. Golf carts blasting rap music, people up hollering until 2-3am (the quiet time wasn’t enforced), and 7 police cars showed up on Saturday night for some sort of disturbance in the back of the park. The sites in the back were definitely the loudest/craziest. I don’t think it’d be a great area for people that like their peace and quiet. My son hit his head at the splash pad and had a pretty nasty bump from it. The lifeguard had disappeared about 5 minutes before, and we never saw her again. Or any lifeguard for that matter. The day before, a little girl busted her mouth open at the splash pad and the male lifeguard working just sat there and watched everyone else helping her. My friend had to go ask him for the first aid kit he had. The camp store cashier clearly didn’t enjoy her job and was cursing at her malfunctioning cash register the whole time I was in line. Lastly and maybe most frustrating was visitor parking. You’re only allowed 1 vehicle per site and all others have to park in a small grass area by the office. However, there were never any spots available. This only left a small parking lot in front of the office, but when we parked there, we and several others received parking violations telling us to park at our sites, where we were also told we couldn’t park (we had more than 1 vehicle). We did have a safe, good time but would need to see some improvement before we booked again.
Electric for our campsite was broken, and they sent someone right away to fix it. I am very pleased with that service. Only 3 stars because the campsite itself is busy, crowded, and loud. The front gate was barely functioning, and we didn'tget much help from staff with that, and the check-in staff weren't great. Our kids loved the splash pad, which was very clean. Really wish they would have had a fenced-in dog area. The nearby amusement park is very old and not clean, but our kids loved that as well.
Raised price for campsites, 30 per day for your own golf cart on-site absolutely ridiculous been coming for 30 years ive had enough
The annual campers make you feel like an outsider, and the noise till 4am is insane. The security does nothing about it. When you tell them what happened they act like that could not have been going on. I can honestly say that we will NEVER CAMPER HERE AGAIN...............
Loved the place. Came on July 20th. Kid loved the campground splash park. Shuttle was convenient to the park. Will come again
