Introduction / Overview
Andersons Crossing Campground, nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Wadena County near Sebeka, MN, is a cherished destination for local Minnesotans seeking an authentic, nature-focused outdoor experience. The campground itself is steeped in local history, lying in an area once known as an important Indian crossing and later named for a pioneer settler, reflecting the deep heritage of the region.
Its primary role is as a vital launch point and overnight rest stop for those paddling the beautiful, clear waters of the Crow Wing River. The river in this section is characterized by a mostly gentle flow, sandy banks, and the occasional riffle—like the "Butterfield Rapids," which are noted as short, enjoyable rippling water that adds a touch of excitement without posing a threat to family-friendly kayaking. As a primitive camping destination, Andersons Crossing provides the essential infrastructure to support comfortable multi-day river adventures or peaceful weekend retreats, all while being surrounded by over 100 acres of protected county land and the surrounding jack pine forest of northern Wadena County. Great place to start a Kayack trip on the Crow Wing! Few little class 1-2 rapids. Nothing serious, but fun for MN. Lol. Very family friendly for even our teen kids in kayacks. Last about 3.5 hours to Framers landing just past Nimrod. Barely saw anyone else on the river. Wonderful family day!
