Aqualand Marina and Campground About

For those of us living in Maryland, the desire to escape to a serene campground, especially one with water access, is a common pursuit. We look for places that offer relaxation, a connection with nature, and a welcoming environment for our families. However, not all campgrounds live up to these expectations, and it's crucial for us, as local users, to have transparent and factual information when planning our precious leisure time. This article aims to provide an honest overview of Aqualand Marina and Campground in Newburg, MD, based on recent experiences shared by fellow campers, so you can make an informed decision about where to spend your next Maryland outdoor adventure.

Recent feedback from visitors to Aqualand Marina and Campground paints a concerning picture. Instead of the peaceful retreat many seek, several accounts describe a location that falls significantly short of basic camping standards. Issues ranging from unreliable utilities to reports of unprofessional staff conduct and even safety concerns have been highlighted. While the allure of a marina and campground on the water might seem appealing on paper, it appears the reality for some campers has been far from ideal.

This overview is not intended to discourage outdoor activities in our beautiful state, but rather to serve as a cautionary guide. As Marylanders, we deserve camping experiences that are safe, comfortable, and respectful. By presenting the direct feedback from those who have visited Aqualand Marina and Campground, we hope to empower you to choose a location that truly aligns with your expectations for a positive and relaxing getaway in Maryland. It's about ensuring your next camping trip is memorable for all the right reasons, not the wrong ones.

Aqualand Marina and Campground is located at 9700 Orland Park Rd, Newburg, MD 20664, USA. This address places it in Charles County, Southern Maryland, with reported proximity to the Potomac River. For Maryland residents, Newburg is generally accessible, though the specific experience of reaching the campground, especially with larger vehicles, would depend on the quality of local roads leading directly to the site.

The geographic location near the Potomac River typically suggests potential for water-based activities like fishing and boating, which could be an attraction for some. However, accessibility concerns extend beyond just the drive. Reviews indicate challenges within the campground itself, with reports of a "run down" appearance and internal issues. While the area of Newburg and Southern Maryland offers many beautiful natural spaces, the experience of accessing and moving within Aqualand Marina and Campground, according to recent visitors, appears to be problematic.

For Maryland residents planning a trip to this area, it is important to understand that while the region itself is lovely, the specific property of Aqualand Marina and Campground, based on recent reviews, presents significant accessibility and quality-of-experience issues that could impact your stay. This includes not only the physical access to sites but also the functional accessibility of basic utilities and services within the campground. Prospective visitors should consider these points carefully when evaluating the overall accessibility of this particular location for their camping needs.

Based on the provided customer reviews, the services offered at Aqualand Marina and Campground appear to be significantly problematic or absent, directly impacting the quality of a camper's stay. The following points reflect services as experienced by recent visitors, rather than a list of reliable provisions:

  • Water Availability: Repeatedly noted as "often no water," indicating unreliable or nonexistent water hookups or access, which is a fundamental service for any campground.
  • Bathrooms: Described as "disgusting bathrooms are filled with bugs," suggesting severe issues with cleanliness and maintenance of essential sanitation facilities.
  • Staff Conduct: Visitors report "employees are very disrespectful the moment you walk in the door" and that the owner is "just as rude," pointing to a pervasive issue with customer service and hospitality.
  • Refund/Billing Issues: A serious concern raised involves being "charged... over $2000 twice 'by mistake,' which they wouldn't refund," leading to credit card disputes. This indicates significant problems with financial practices and accountability.
  • Site Maintenance: One review mentions a "lawnmower guy could walk straight and was driving the Lawnmower and ran into my car," suggesting poor or dangerous maintenance practices within the campground.
  • Security Concerns: Reports of "Alot of break ins happening so if you stay make sure you lock your car doors and take anything of value inside with you" indicate a serious lack of security for campers' belongings.

Based on the provided customer reviews, the "features" and "highlights" of Aqualand Marina and Campground are presented as significant drawbacks and reasons for strong caution, rather than positive attributes. It is crucial for prospective campers to be aware of these reported conditions:

  • Run-Down Condition: The campground is explicitly described as "very run down," indicating a general state of disrepair and lack of maintenance across the property.
  • Unreliable Utilities: A critical "feature" is the "often no water" supply, which is a fundamental utility expected at any functional campground, making a stay highly inconvenient or impossible.
  • Poor Staff Conduct: A prominent "highlight" from reviews is the "disrespectful" employees and a "rude" owner, leading to an unwelcoming and confrontational atmosphere.
  • Billing and Refund Problems: A serious "feature" of concern is the reported "mistaken" double charges amounting to thousands of dollars that required credit card disputes for resolution, indicating highly problematic financial practices.
  • Safety and Security Risks: Reports of a "lawnmower guy" running into a car and "Alot of break ins happening" highlight significant safety hazards and a lack of security within the campground, advising campers to "lock your car doors and take anything of value inside with you."
  • Unclean Bathrooms: The condition of the "disgusting bathrooms are filled with bugs" is a major negative "highlight," indicating unsanitary and uncomfortable facilities.
  • More Trailer Park Than Campground: One review states, "Its not even really a campground, its been turned into more of a trailer park," suggesting a long-term residential feel rather than a recreational camping environment.
  • Loud Environment: "People are loud all times of the night" is a reported "highlight" of concern, contradicting the expectation of a peaceful camping experience.
  • Allegations of Discrimination: A grave concern raised is the observation of staff treating "a customer differently because of the color of their skin," alleging discriminatory practices.

Based on the overwhelming negative feedback and serious allegations from recent customer reviews, there are no promotions or special offers that could genuinely enhance or recommend a stay at Aqualand Marina and Campground. In fact, the reported issues, including significant billing discrepancies ("charged me after I left over $2000 twice 'by mistake,' which they wouldn't refund and I had to dispute with my card company"), strongly caution against engaging in any financial transactions without extreme vigilance.

Instead of seeking promotions, prospective visitors are advised to exercise extreme caution and be aware of the reported practices before considering any form of booking or payment. The concerns about billing fraud, a lack of refunds, and disrespectful staff overshadow any potential for positive promotional offerings. The primary "offer" presented by the reviews is a stark warning about the potential for a highly negative and problematic experience.

Given the severe nature of the issues reported, any traditional promotions would be inconsequential in the face of alleged safety risks, discrimination, and financial misconduct. Therefore, this section serves as an alert for Maryland residents to prioritize their safety and financial security over any potential (and unconfirmed) discounts. It is strongly advised to research alternatives with verified positive reputations.

For individuals who, despite the significant concerns raised by recent reviews, still wish to contact Aqualand Marina and Campground, the provided contact information is as follows:

  • Address: 9700 Orland Park Rd, Newburg, MD 20664, USA
  • Phone: (301) 259-2222
  • Mobile Phone: +1 301-259-2222

It is crucial to approach any communication with this establishment with extreme caution, particularly regarding reservations, payment, and any specific requests or concerns, given the reported issues with staff conduct and billing practices. We strongly advise confirming all details in writing and maintaining thorough records of any transactions or conversations.

For us, the residents of Maryland, choosing a local campground means finding a place where we can relax, enjoy nature, and feel safe and respected. Unfortunately, based on the recent and consistent feedback from fellow campers, Aqualand Marina and Campground does not appear to be a suitable option for locals, or indeed for any camper seeking a positive experience.

The numerous and severe concerns highlighted by visitors directly contradict what Marylanders expect from a reputable outdoor recreational facility. Reports of "often no water," "disgusting bathrooms filled with bugs," and a "very run down" appearance point to a fundamental failure in providing basic amenities and maintenance. More critically, allegations of "disrespectful" and "rude" staff, serious billing issues (including "over $2000 twice 'by mistake' which they wouldn't refund"), "Alot of break ins happening," and deeply troubling claims of racial discrimination ("They also do not like black people! I watched as they treated a customer differently because of the color of their skin") paint a picture of an environment that is unsafe, unwelcoming, and ethically questionable.

As Marylanders, we value community, safety, and respect. A place that reportedly fosters an environment of disrespect, unreliability, and potential danger is simply not conducive to the family-friendly, peaceful getaways we seek. While the location itself in Southern Maryland is beautiful, the specific operations and conditions at Aqualand Marina and Campground, as described by those who have been there, make it an unsuitable and, frankly, highly inadvisable choice for our local camping needs. When considering options in this area, it is paramount to prioritize establishments with a proven track record of positive customer experiences, such as "Goosebay in Welcome, Md," which was explicitly recommended as a superior alternative by a disaffected Aqualand visitor for its "super nice" staff, "super peaceful and amazing environment," and direct water access. Our time and safety are too valuable to risk on a location with such concerning and pervasive negative feedback.

Worst place I have been. Often no water. Also very run down. Staff is shaddy. Lawnmower guy could walk straight and was driving the Lawnmower and ran into my car. They also charged me after I left over $2000 twice 'by mistake,' which they wouldn't refund and I had to dispute with my card company. Don't stay here.

Worst campground you could possibly go too! Employees are very disrespectful the moment you walk in the door. Its as if your inconveniencing them by trying to get them to do what they are paid to do! The owner sits in the office as well and he is just as rude! Very disgusting bathrooms are filled with bugs. Its not even really a campground, its been turned into more of a trailer park. People are loud all times of the night. Alot of break ins happening so if you stay make sure you lock your car doors and take anything of value inside with you. Absolute worst place to be!! They also do not like black people! I watched as they treated a customer differently because of the color of their skin. If you want to have a good camp stay in this area, just go to Goosebay in Welcome, Md. Office people are super nice as is the owner. Sits directly on the water. Super peaceful and an amazing environment. Aqualand is a trash place and i do not recommend anyone to go there!!

Missed last 2 RECENT reviews before we stayed here. Big mistake. Like others said, this is a trailer park, not a campground. Disgusting. 2 sights per owners. Freshly mowed long grass with hidden dog crap. Filthy bathrooms. Very loud guys working on vehicles. Sketchy people walking by. We bailed and asked for refund. Says he’ll give me one night. I want it all. 4 of us, 2 rigs. Did not feel safe!

Not really a campground. It's more like a trailer park. The location may look great on a map, easy access, right on the water. But look closer and it's right across the highway from a huge industrial plant/power plant 🏭 . The facilities were not in the best shape and the office has hours that make bankers blush. If you are an industrial worker needing a place to stay for a while, this might fit the bill. But if you are a family looking for a place to vacation, there are way better choices!

Cheap, but noisy. Right next to the highway so that's all you hear. The lady we checked in with seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but there and it felt less than welcoming. There is definitely a trailer park feel to the place. Overall not bad, especially because it was a cheap place to pitch the tent, but not sure we'd come back.
