BP2 Split Rock State Park Campsite is part of the larger Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, renowned for its iconic lighthouse and dramatic cliffside scenery. This particular campsite offers a unique perspective on this grandeur, providing a "rugged campsite on shores of Lake Superior." Reviews from fellow adventurers confirm its appeal, highlighting its "gorgeous trails and place" and the "awesome view" from its perch high on the cliff side. While it requires a walk-in approach (meaning no vehicle access directly to the site), this contributes to its secluded feel, offering a more intimate connection with the environment. For Minnesotans, this means a chance to truly disconnect and experience the raw, untamed beauty of our beloved North Shore.
This comprehensive guide will provide you with all the essential information about BP2 Split Rock State Park Campsite. We’ll delve into its specific location and how accessible it is for residents across Minnesota, outline the features that define this unique camping experience, and provide all the necessary contact details for planning your adventure. By the end, you'll understand why this particular site is perfectly suited for locals seeking an unforgettable and authentically rugged camping trip on the shores of Lake Superior.
BP2 is one of the walk-in campsites located within the iconic Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, near Two Harbors, MN 55616, USA. This prime location places it directly on the celebrated North Shore of Lake Superior, a destination revered by Minnesotans for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities.
Accessibility to Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is excellent, as it's situated right off Highway 61, the main scenic route along the North Shore. This makes the drive to the park entrance straightforward from Duluth, Two Harbors, or other North Shore communities. However, it's crucial to understand the "walk-in" nature of BP2. This site is "not reached by vehicle," meaning you will park your car in a designated lot within the state park and hike to the campsite.
These walk-in sites, also sometimes referred to as cart-in sites, are typically secluded and within a reasonable distance from parking – often within 2000 feet (less than a half mile to two miles). The park may provide wheeled carts seasonally to assist with hauling gear, though it's wise to be prepared to carry your equipment. While the "highway on the distance" might still be heard, the elevated position "high on the cliff side" offers a sense of rugged remoteness despite being part of a popular state park. This balance makes it accessible enough for a dedicated weekend trip while still providing the feeling of a true wilderness escape for Minnesotans seeking that North Shore solitude.
As a walk-in campsite within a state park, BP2 at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park offers a more rustic experience compared to drive-in RV parks, focusing on essential amenities for a comfortable yet authentic outdoor adventure. Based on typical state park walk-in site provisions and customer reviews, you can expect the following:
It's important to remember that walk-in sites are inherently more primitive than drive-in sites with full hookups. You should be prepared to carry your gear and rely on shared facilities within the park.

Sep 26, 2022 · Wendy W.Site is high on the cliff side with an awesome view. Room for two tents and a couple hammocks. Has a half picknick table, fire ring, and bear box. Not very far off the trail though, and you will still hear the highway on the distance.
