Introduction / Overview

Buffalo Shores Park, situated at 1433 W Front St #7765, Buffalo, IA 52728, USA, is a picturesque twenty-five-acre recreation area managed by Scott County Conservation. Nestled directly on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River, just downstream from the city of Buffalo, this park is a popular destination for both day-use visitors and overnight campers. It seamlessly combines the tranquility of riverside living with convenient access to modern amenities, making it a highly sought-after spot for locals.

The campground at Buffalo Shores Park is designed to accommodate a variety of camping units, primarily focusing on RVs and trailers with its paved, hard-surfaced sites. One satisfied camper eloquently described it as having a "Beautiful view, great park, campground clean and easy to find a good spot," further adding that it "Kinda looks like a paved drive-in movie theater with a great view of the Mississippi river." This imagery perfectly captures the essence of the park: a spacious, well-maintained area offering prime river vistas.

Beyond just camping, Buffalo Shores Park serves as a hub for various outdoor activities, emphasizing safety and cleanliness, as evidenced by the regular presence of Park Rangers. While it offers modern conveniences, it maintains a close connection to the natural environment, providing a perfect balance for those seeking both comfort and an authentic outdoor experience along the iconic Mississippi River.

Location and Accessibility

Buffalo Shores Park boasts an enviable location at 1433 W Front St #7765, Buffalo, IA 52728, USA. This address places it directly on the western edge of Buffalo, Iowa, a charming town within Scott County. Its position along State Highway 22 makes it exceptionally accessible for campers coming from various parts of Iowa and neighboring states, particularly the greater Quad Cities area (Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island).

The park's most significant geographical feature is its immediate proximity to the Mississippi River. This direct riverfront location provides campers with stunning views, particularly from the riverside sites, and convenient access for boating and fishing activities. While a customer review humorously notes the campground is "set between the railroad tracks and the river," the distance is about 300 yards, and many campers find the occasional train a charming, quintessential Midwestern experience that adds to the character of the stay rather than detracting from it, especially with modern RV insulation. Some reviews indicate that train noise is minimal when A/C units are running.

The accessibility from major roads ensures a smooth journey for those towing trailers or driving RVs. Its location in Buffalo means that essential services, gas stations, and local eateries are just a short drive away, providing convenience without compromising the serene camping atmosphere. Promotions or Special Offers

For the most current information on camping rates, reservation policies, or any potential off-season benefits (though winter camping is not available at this specific location, as one reviewer noted other nearby sites might be), it is highly recommended to directly contact Buffalo Shores Park or the Scott County Conservation Board. Trailer Park camping with a nice view. Here’s what it looks like in the winter time. Kinda looks like a paved drive-in movie theater with a great view of the Mississippi river.. before warned the Campground is set between the railroad tracks and the river and the distance between the two of them is about 300 yards….. no winter camping here but the first 11 sites down at Shady Creek 7 miles south is open for winter camping that is of the time of this writing on December 29, 2024 .. Haved stayed here 3 times now. Campground is nice with flat paved roads. Not a lot of leveling involved to set up. Bathrooms are cleaned daily. Campsite is also cleaned daily (picking up sticks, debris etc). Im sitting on the beach right now after labor day weekend and there is no trash on the beach. I'm not sure what those other reviews are crying about. The wood is $3 a bundle...thats cheap. If you dont like the price, go cut down a tree, then split it. $3 is a bargain. There is a shower house/bathroom that is nice. Also 4 porto johnnies in thw campground too.Trains can be a little annoying but they arent that frequent. Maybe 2 a day?? Rangers do a pretty good job of enforcing the rules. Camp host is a nice guy. If you want a beach spot get here by Wednesday. The camp spot sizes vary quite a bit. Some are very large while some are small. If you look at a satellite view you can see. Only reason i didnt give it a 5 is because they dont have water at every site. You have to fill up your tank then unhook from the water. Not a huge deal but to elderly people or people who have mobility problems this may be a deal breaker. Overall a nice place to camp.

10/10/2020: If you want a river front camping spot get there on Wednesday or Thursday. We were in spot 15 and it was perfect! The campground has electricity and water but no sewage or dump station or shower houses due to faulty sewer system. They have put up Porta potty‘s and they are actually clean and not completely disgusting to use. Each campsite has a fire ring as well. Campers are permitted to use the dump stations at Westlake camp ground 10 miles away, or so. They are both run by Scott County. If you forget anything, nearby Blue Grass is a five minute drive and has a wonderful grocery store called Jeff’s Market where they cut their own meat and have a hot food deli case where the chicken smells wonderful. Dollar General is also nearby. We brought our kayaks and got out on the river a couple of times over the weekend. We had some lovely camper neighbors and we are anxious to get back there soon! Don’t miss this little gem!!

Fantastic spot right on the Mississippi river. There is electricity and water to fill your fresh water tank. As of right now there is no dump station. But the sand beach is awesome!!!
