West Lake Park is a true gem in Scott County, offering a diverse range of recreational activities that extend far beyond just camping. Summit Campground, managed by the city of Davenport, provides a well-maintained and accessible base for exploring all that the wider park has to offer. Whether you're a seasoned camper, a family looking for a weekend getaway, or simply seeking a peaceful spot close to home, understanding the amenities and atmosphere of Summit Campground can help you plan your ideal outdoor experience. Let’s dive into the details that make this campground a noteworthy option for local Iowans.

Location and Accessibility

Summit Campground is conveniently located at 14910 110th Ave, Davenport, IA 52804, USA. Its prime location within West Lake Park means easy access to all the park's amenities and natural beauty. For residents of the Quad Cities area (Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, Moline), this campground is exceptionally accessible, often just a short drive away. Its proximity to Interstate 280 (I-280) makes it easy to find, even for those traveling from further reaches of Iowa or neighboring states. This makes it a perfect spontaneous getaway or a planned family vacation spot without the need for extensive travel.

The park's address places it on the western side of Davenport, offering a balance between convenient access to city services and the tranquil escape of a natural park setting. This blend of urban proximity and natural serenity is often highly valued by local campers who want to feel "away" without truly being remote. The well-laid-out nature of the park and its clear signage further contribute to its ease of access for all types of vehicles, including larger RVs.

Services Offered

Summit Campground prides itself on offering essential services that ensure a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience for its visitors. As part of a well-managed city park system, the facilities are generally well-maintained. Key services available at Summit Campground include:

  • Electric Hook-ups: Sites offer electric hook-ups, including 50 amp service, accommodating a wide range of RVs and allowing for the use of electrical appliances.
  • Dump Station: A convenient dump station is available within the campground for waste disposal, essential for RVers. It is important to note that while Summit offers water and electric, there is another campground within West Lake Park (Park Terrace) that provides full hook-ups (water, electric, and sewer) for those who prefer an integrated sewer connection at their site.
  • Restrooms and Showers: Modern and handicap-accessible comfort stations, including restrooms and showers, are available, ensuring a more comfortable stay than primitive camping.
  • On-Site Campground Host: A dedicated campground host is typically present on-site to assist campers with questions, provide local information, and ensure a smooth experience.
  • Firewood for Sale: Firewood is available for purchase at the park, making it easy to enjoy a campfire without having to transport wood from outside.
  • First-Come, First-Serve Sites: A large number of sites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, which is great for spontaneous trips, though it's always wise to arrive earlier during peak season to secure a spot. Some sites within West Lake Park can also be reserved.

While the campground does not offer Wi-Fi or cable service, and Verizon coverage might be usable but not very strong, AT&T coverage is generally adequate. This encourages campers to unplug and enjoy the natural surroundings.

We pulled in at 11pm and left by 9am, campground was flat, easy pull thru spots, nice playground and immaculate bathroom facilities! Would recommend for longer stay or just a stop over. My only issue was that the moment we pulled in they were at our campsite asking for money (when we called they said to park and set up and come pay them) it was pouring and I was just trying to level the camper so the kids could get out of the rain and car, but had to stop and write a check!
