As a public use area operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicken Creek Public Use Area operates under a standardized fee and reservation system rather than traditional commercial "promotions or special offers." Reservations are primarily handled through the national booking platform, Recreation.gov.
However, prospective campers can inquire about:
- Reservation Availability: It is highly recommended to make reservations in advance, especially for waterfront sites and during peak seasons (typically March through October), as it's a popular campground. Reservations can often be made up to six months in advance.
- Campsite Fees: Fees vary depending on the type of site and amenities. For example, sites with electric hookups may have different rates than those with water and electric. Fees generally range from approximately $10.00 to $50.00 per night.
- Day Use Fees: While overnight camping requires a fee, there is often "free day use" available for access to specific areas like the swim beach or boat ramp, which is a great option for locals just looking for a day out.
- Interagency Passes: Holders of federal recreation passes (such as the America the Beautiful Senior or Access Pass) may be eligible for discounts on camping fees, typically a 50% reduction on the standard amenity fee for the pass holder's site.
- Seasonal Closures: Be aware that some campgrounds on Tenkiller Lake, including Chicken Creek, may have seasonal closures, typically from November 1st to March 1st, for efficient stewardship and to prevent waterline breaks during freezing weather. Always check the current operating schedule.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on reservations, fees, and seasonal operations, it is always best to visit Recreation.gov or contact the Tenkiller Lake Project Office directly.

So nice! Loved every second. The Chicken Creek store makes the best Hamburgers. The gate people and park ranger Noah were so helpful!!!
Nice public camp ground inside of a small community. Definitely a very family friendly atmosphere. I just wish it wasn’t over run with people from Arkansas. Do they not have lakes they can go to instead of coming to neighboring states?
Nice place... Only downside was the app said site 34 had shade and that is not true....and the bathroom was locked... Other than that it was as good
