Hayesville, the charming county seat of Clay County, provides a tranquil backdrop, known for its friendly atmosphere and stunning natural surroundings.
The park's location offers excellent accessibility for both local North Carolinians and visitors from further afield. Clay Recreation Park Road is a well-maintained local artery that connects easily to major state highways in the area, such as US-64. US-64 is a key east-west corridor that allows straightforward travel from various parts of North Carolina, including the Asheville region, or from neighboring states. This makes the campground an accessible destination for families and individuals towing RVs or trailers, as well as those arriving by car for tent camping or day use.
Beyond vehicular access, the campground boasts integrated accessibility features within the park itself. Reviews highlight "multiple walking trails" and "paved walking paths" that even extend "all the way across the Chatuge Dam," offering scenic routes for leisurely strolls, jogging, or biking. These paths connect the Recreation Park and Gibson Cove campgrounds (also part of Clay County's offerings), providing extended opportunities for exploration within the park system. The presence of "boat ramps" also signifies easy access for those looking to enjoy Lake Chatuge with their own watercraft. This thoughtful design ensures that visitors can easily move around and fully utilize all the recreational offerings within the park.
As a county-run facility, Clay County Park Campground typically operates on a standardized fee schedule rather than offering frequent, publicly advertised promotions in the retail sense. However, the fee structure itself and the value provided for the price can be seen as a consistent "offer" to local residents.
Based on available public data, the pricing is structured to accommodate various types of camping and durations of stay, which provides flexibility for different budgets:
While explicit "sales" or "discounts" are not typically listed, the inherent value of clean, well-maintained facilities, direct lake access, and a range of amenities at county-controlled prices can be considered a consistent benefit for local North Carolinians. For the most precise and up-to-date fee schedules and availability, it is best to contact the campground directly or check their official county website.

Apr 08, 2025 · Susan SpearsSuch a lovely picnic/campground. Well maintained. There's a nice beach with a white sand sunbathing area, and a child's play area. The picnic tables are in good shape and well shaded.
May 10, 2023 · Cris SleightholmGreat area sitting right next to the beautiful Lake Chatuge. All campsites are laid out perfectly and as far as I could tell, all equipped with picnic table, fire ring, and power. Water is readily available throughout the park. Showers are also available in the comfort stations. Good, nicely paved walkways throughout with decent playground setups for the young ones. Highly recommended.
Jan 29, 2021 · Erin BergerWhat a beautiful part of the lake. So many of the RV parking pads have a great view of the lake. Can't wait to see it when the lake level is back up in the Spring.
