Just spoke with Joyce over the phone.Very nice lady. Looking forward to staying at her park. Our site is secured. The fact that they have rules in place and she makes sure those rules are honored lets me know Sundowners is on top of things. Guidelines and rules are for everyones protection and respect Thank you Sundowners for having us as your guest. Patience and Steve
Firstly, if I could do ZERO stars I certainly would!! Joyce, the owner, would not take time unloading her truck to talk to me about renting a long term rental and asked if I would come back at a later time. I gladly obliged and returned 3 days later. On my arrival, my sister and I found no one in the office so we waited outside on the front porch. I told my sister to go ahead with errands and that I would wait for Joyce. I telephoned the office number and she answered stating bluntly, “I am reading meters, so it might be a few minutes “. As soon as she walked up she asked how I arrived to which I replied “my sister brought me but left to do errands since we were waiting “. She immediately asked if I owned a vehicle! She was very curt and stated “well do you have a job because most of the renters here are retired”. I replied that I did not have a full time job currently but would be self employed and she then stated that “this would not be a good fit for you”. I asked her for an explanation and she went on to say that “a lot of locals are trying to move in here and have family and friends over that are partiers and cause a lot of trouble, so this would not be a good fit for you”. I was speechless and asked her if there was a reason that she was being so judgmental and she stated that she saw my “local daughter and grandchildren on Friday and that was against policy”. I informed Joyce that my daughter and her family lived in Woodstock, GA and were here visiting. She stated that since I did not have a tow vehicle currently and that I was 53 that (again) this would not work. I replied that my sister had called 4 days ago and it would have been nice if she had explained all of this over the phone to save us both time. Her demeanor and temperament was definitely not one befitting a gracious hostess. I would definitely NOT recommend this facility to anyone after this interaction and she should be ashamed of her behavior. She was extremely judgmental and abrasive. Apparently, she is a miserable human being and maybe needs to think about doing something different!
Our stay at the Sundowner from May 3 thru the 7th 2017 was a very wet stay. Rainy weather aside this campground is very nice, clean and inviting. We had the mountains as a back drop and large trees for shade. Joyce was very gracious and accommodating. Will definitely return to this campground.
Stayed first part of Oct to go to the John Campbell festival and visit relatives in Hiawassee Ga. Beautiful well maintained park, quite and owners are friendly and very helpful. We arrived well after dark because we got caught in a traffic jam in Chattanooga TN they helped us get into our space Joyce had even called us to make sure we were ok because we were much later than I had told her we would be. They were very helpful with information on getting around and sites to see. Would definitely stay there again when we are in the area.
