Promotions or Special Offers

As a state park, Cowan Lake State Park Campgrounds & Cabins, managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), often participates in state-wide promotions designed to encourage outdoor recreation and provide value to visitors. While specific, short-term promotional codes may vary throughout the year, there are several consistent offers and booking advantages that Ohio residents should be aware of when planning their trip:

  • Military and Veteran Discounts: The ODNR frequently offers discounts for active duty U.S. military members and veterans. This can include a 30% discount during specific promotional periods (e.g., around Veterans Day) or an ongoing 10% discount on camping and cabin reservations throughout the year. Valid military identification is typically required upon check-in. Free camping may also be available for Ohio veterans with permanent disabilities.
  • Advance Reservations: While not a discount, the ability to make reservations up to six months in advance for campsites and up to one year in advance for cabins is a significant "offer" for popular state parks like Cowan Lake. This allows Ohio locals to secure their preferred dates and accommodations, especially during peak seasons.
  • Two-Night Minimum for Cabins: Be aware that cabin reservations often require a two-night minimum stay, which, while not a discount, can influence booking flexibility.
  • Family Fishing Day: Cowan Lake State Park often hosts special events like "Family Fishing Day," which may coincide with Ohio's license-free fishing weekends. These events offer free fishing workshops, prize giveaways, and opportunities for young anglers to receive free gear and meals. Keep an eye on the park's official events calendar for these community-focused promotions.

Most definitely one of our favorite campgrounds. The volunteers are awesome. It's family friendly with lots of activities. And the camp store food is pretty good! We make sure to camp here at least twice a year!

A great peaceful camping trip for family or friends. Very clean like always. I try to go here for my first trip of the year. Did encounter a bad neighbor but that is the luck of going to any campground. As a state park it is one of the best in ohio for relaxation and fishing on the beautiful lake.

My wife and I have been coming here for a few years now for the fall campout. Each year is a great time and we always look forward to it. The whole place is great and family friendly. The whole camp ground shuts down an hour before the trick or treat begins, and then all the families walk from one sight to the next taking in all of the decorations (which range from scary to festive and friendly). If you are looking to come for the trick or treat time, be sure to look online and book well in advance! These sights go fast.

Overall a really nice campground! The only up front gripe I had was that our fire pit was awkwardly far from the actual parking spot. Not sure if this is standard practice for the other spots. Nice bathhouse, friendly staff, good boat launch for kayaks but a little small and busy for a boat. The lake is huge and beautiful. We got to see a group of sail boats and lots of wildlife while kayaking/fishing. The property was well maintained and there is a small store, though it wasn’t open during our visit for some reason.

Absolutely beautiful. We really enjoyed the park. It was very clean all the sites are larger and we didn't have to unhook our trailer to park. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Wish we could have stayed longer.
