Introduction / Overview
For New Hampshire residents yearning for a genuine, back-to-nature experience in the heart of the majestic White Mountains, Dry River Campground is an established state park gem. Nestled within the spectacular 6,000-acre Crawford Notch State Park in Bartlett, this campground offers a rustic, deeply wooded setting that stands in refreshing contrast to high-amenity resorts. It is widely recognized by locals and frequent campers as a haven of peace, highly praised in customer reviews for being a "very quiet campground."
Dry River Campground provides 36 well-spaced, wooded sites, making it perfectly sized to maintain a sense of seclusion and tranquility. Unlike many commercial campgrounds, the focus here is on immersing yourself in the surrounding wilderness. The setting is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a fantastic base for serious hiking and exploration, with many trails accessible directly from the grounds. Guests appreciate the simple, functional amenities, particularly noting that the coin-operated showers are "excellent after a long day of hiking" and that the bathrooms are consistently "clean."
Operated by the New Hampshire State Park system, Dry River Campground maintains a professional yet friendly atmosphere. While the "office" may be unmanned at times, park staff are regularly on-site to assist. This is an excellent choice for those looking to disconnect, as cell service is limited, encouraging a true digital detox in a stunning natural environment.
Location and Accessibility
Dry River Campground is centrally located at 2057 US-302, Bartlett, NH 03812, USA. This address places it directly within Crawford Notch State Park, a historic and naturally stunning pass through the White Mountains. Its position on US Route 302 makes it easily accessible while also providing a sense of seclusion once inside the wooded grounds.
The campground is strategically situated, offering excellent proximity to key regional landmarks and town centers. It is approximately 25 miles west of the popular hub of North Conway and about 15 miles east of Twin Mountain. Its location in the notch provides breathtaking views, including the nearby Frankenstein Cliffs. Crucially, it provides direct access to the Dry River Wilderness and the extensive trail systems of the White Mountain National Forest, which begin mere steps from the campsites.
While the campground embraces a quieter environment, visitors will find essential supplies and a public telephone just three miles west at the Willey House Snack Bar and Gift Shop. For New Hampshire residents seeking an adventure hub, the campground’s location is unparalleled: within a half-hour drive, you can reach the Mount Washington Cog Railway and Auto Road, Franconia Notch State Park, and the shopping/dining options of North Conway and Littleton. Prospective campers should note that some sites are closer to Route 302, where "traffic noise is heard," though many campers find the peaceful atmosphere of the inner sites easily offsets this minor inconvenience.

We enjoyed our stay at the campground. Hiking trails were available within the campground.
Sep 24, 2025 · Winifred HillVery quiet campground. Firewood available on site. Unmanned “office” although park staff are in and out through the day. Traffic noise is heard for sites along the road but for me it really wasn’t that bad. Coin operated showers were excellent after a long day of hiking. Bathrooms were clean. Would definitely stay here again. Quiet campground.
May 27, 2024 · Caleb TownsendNice camping spot in the Notch! Here are some tips: - Spots are nice and wide with reasonable distance, but loud voices will carry clearly. - No electric power even in the RV spots - Potable water easily accessible at many sites - Large waste containers at the entrance of the site only - Wood is $6 at the front, cash only - You will hear a good amount of road noise for spots on the West side of the road from the highway. Stay as East as possible. - Do not get the spots near the entrance, the traffic is substantial and privacy minimal - Bathrooms and showers are functional, but unclean. Sandals are strongly recommended. Bring quarters for the shower.
Sep 22, 2022 · Victor ChiuI discovered this campground by accident. Google Maps said it was the location of Stair Mountain 🏔️. It wasn't. The campground has individual lots that can accommodate a vehicle. You have to pay a fee at the building at the entrance. It is run by the park officials at the Wiley House just down the road. What caught my attention was the building that had showers 🚿 and a laundry 🧺. There was a sink to wash dishes outside. A dumpster was near the entrance for customers trash 🗑️. The building at the entrance was unmanned. It had information ℹ️ available about places to visit. There is a small park next to the entrance with a few chairs.
Nov 18, 2022 · Stephen PriestCome here every year for the last 4 years. Amazing spot imo. Bathrooms are clean and always stocked. Water spicket on site with potable water. The store to buy firewood is now manned and in normal business hours to buy things like ice and fire wood and fire starters. Their fire starters are all local veteran made. Campsites are all a little different but most of them all come with a fire ring and picnic table. Pet friendly just watch out for possible ticks like you would in any wilderness situation and ur good.
