Introduction / Overview
For New Hampshire residents seeking an authentic, family-focused getaway in the unparalleled beauty of the White Mountains, Crawford Notch Campground in Hart's Location is a treasured destination. Nestled within the scenic pass that gives it its name, this family-owned and operated campground offers a unique combination of rustic charm and essential amenities. Spanning 100 wooded acres, it provides over 100 spacious and well-maintained sites, cabins, and yurts, ensuring a perfect fit for any local adventurer, from seasoned tent campers to those looking for a comfortable cabin stay.
The core identity of Crawford Notch Campground lies in its connection to the natural environment and its commitment to providing an unplugged experience. This is a place where nature takes center stage, as highlighted by numerous local users who appreciate the "rustic with no Wi-Fi" atmosphere. The grounds boast approximately one mile of beautiful frontage on the Saco River, inviting guests to enjoy wading, tubing, and fishing directly from the campground. Customers consistently praise the facility for its large, well-spaced sites that afford a desirable level of privacy and quiet, despite its popularity, even during busy periods like the Fourth of July weekend. Visitors commend the staff for being "friendly and polite" and for their hard work in maintaining a "very clean" environment, from the sites themselves to the regularly serviced bathhouses.
This campground is designed to be the ultimate basecamp, offering easy, direct access to the vast hiking and biking trail systems of the White Mountain National Forest, a key selling point for locals aiming to explore their own state's most iconic wilderness.
Location and Accessibility
Crawford Notch Campground is ideally situated at 1138 US-302, Hart's Location, NH 03812, USA. This placement is central to the White Mountains experience, set right on the Presidential Range Tour National Scenic Byway. The location within Crawford Notch ensures awe-inspiring views of majestic mountains and unspoiled wilderness the moment you arrive.
The campground’s accessibility is excellent, as it sits directly on US Route 302, just seven miles northwest of Bartlett and 15 miles southeast of Twin Mountain. This central position makes it an easy drive for most New Hampshire residents and provides convenient access to major regional attractions. Nearby destinations, all within a short drive, include the Mount Washington Cog Railway, Story Land, and the numerous shops and restaurants of North Conway Village.
The most unique geographical highlight is its nearly one mile of private frontage along the Saco River. This allows guests to bypass the crowds at public access points and enjoy riverside recreation right outside their tent or cabin door. While its proximity to the main road (US-302) means that some sites near the entrance or the road may experience some traffic noise, reviewers note that the tent sites nestled further in, along the river and deep within the woods, are "quiet and peaceful," making the experience customizable based on preference.

Many state residents have a multi-generational history with this property, with reviewers stating, "My husband has been coming here for years since he was a young child," solidifying its status as a trusted, traditional getaway spot. It offers a crucial chance to "disconnect" from the over-connected world—a feature deeply valued by locals who live within a short drive but seek a true wilderness experience. The focus on a rustic, no-Wi-Fi environment ensures that the time spent here is centered on family, nature, and the White Mountains themselves.
The convenience of having a mile of the Saco River on-site for immediate wading and tubing, combined with the comprehensive general store, means local campers spend less time driving to amenities and more time on the trails or by the water. Furthermore, the commitment of the new ownership to improvement, evidenced by the stocked store and consistently clean facilities, shows they are invested in preserving the quality of this local favorite for "many years to come." For the Granite State outdoor lover, Crawford Notch Campground provides a clean, well-appointed, and traditional basecamp for exploring the heart of the White Mountains.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Toilets and showers were clean. Campsites were large. We heard some coyotes which was nice. The staff were friendly and polite. I would recommend for somebody looking to stay to have easy access to the white mountains etc. We will.be back at some point.
Sep 24, 2025 · David RobertsonMy husband and I just stayed here for the busy 4th of July holiday 7/2 – 7/7. My husband has been coming here for years since he was a young child and this is my 4th year going with him. This is a pretty location, rustic with no Wi-Fi. Water levels depend on what Mother Nature and the Saco wants to do. The sites are well spaced so there’s some privacy and quiet. With that said, I think some of the reviews are a bit unfair. It’s not fair to ding the campground because of its proximity to the road or site neighbors who have no manners and are louder than is necessary. I will say they do seem a bit understaffed. The two men who were on duty while we stayed were fantastic though- truly hard workers. One guy was working the front- dealing with rude customers, phones, fetching wood and ice, basically at everyone’s beck and call. The second guy was mowing the lawn, fixing equipment, patrolling the campground, cleaning, etc. These guys looked seriously overworked but were so pleasant and helpful. Overall, the campground is very clean. We stay in the cabins when we come and have never had an issue with site or cabin cleanliness. The bathhouse is cleaned daily and is usually spotless when the staff finishes cleaning. There are only 3 toilet stalls and 3 shower stalls in the ladies’ room, and I believe it’s the same for men. For a campground with over 100 sites, they do a good job keeping the bathhouse clean since people can be entitled, gross pigs- certainly not the staff’s fault that campers don’t pick up after themselves and the bathhouse isn’t immaculate 24 hours a day. At checkout, I spoke with a very nice woman who has been working for the new owners in some capacity over the last several years. She let me know the new owners are working hard to figure things out and it shows. The store looks good- I see more Crawford Notch merchandise, a wider variety of snacks and drinks, as well as useful camping equipment. Hopefully, they are working on a website and reservation system upgrade- at least update the website to say something other than accepting 2022 reservations lol. All in all, a great little spot we will be visiting again hopefully for many years to come.
Jul 08, 2025 · Dorothy BertoniIt’s a shame because we loved our site and there were many other great sites but here were some things that we didn’t like: Management wasn’t the friendliness at times, they close the gates for no re-entry 10pm-8am, the front camp sites are right along a busy road so you hear loud traffic a lot, camp wood was too pricey, and the biggest one, the bathrooms were horrible. Although cleaned, it was super humid due to horrible ventilation. The floors were always wet, I nearly slid around in my flip flops. They also take two hours to clean them, so there’s no other bathroom to use during that time which I think is too long. Lastly, I’d recommend going during the week, it was a lot more quiet and peaceful. One of our days was on the weekend and it was so busy and loud with neighbors and kids. Oh and you most likely will have to drive about 10 minutes for cell service fyi.
Jun 26, 2025 · Madison JonesBeautiful campground with tent, RV, yurt and cabin sites. Nice trails and river access, some sites right on river. Scenic with mountain views, quiet, nature and wildlife close by. Private sites, nice campground store too. Been going for years, one of the best campgrounds in the White Mountains, close to many hiking trails and waterfalls!
Jul 09, 2025 · Ashley Lefebvre-PosilloCame here almost 10 years ago and again in ‘25. Great spot to do some car camping with dogs and big groups. Normal caveats apply - general store is severely over priced, but down the road you can get the same firewood and beer for a lot less. Guess that’s de rigueur for this sort of thing. Bathhouse was clean, had swept campsites and some of the cleanest porta-potty’s I’ve ever seen. Hats off to that guy, whoever he may be.
