Access to the campground typically involves well-maintained county highways, leading directly into the state forest. Once inside, the campground roads are paved, contributing to a smoother experience for all types of vehicles, including RVs and trailers, though it's important to note that a State Parks and Forest Admission Pass is required for camping and vehicle entry. As a campground operated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources within the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest, East Star Lake Campground follows a standard fee structure rather than offering traditional promotions or discounts. The camping rates vary based on factors such as residency (Wisconsin resident vs. non-resident), amenities (e.g., electricity, though East Star Lake is rustic and does not offer electric hookups), campsite type (e.g., walk-in vs. drive-up), day of the week, and season. A State Parks and Forest Admission Pass is required for vehicle entry and camping. While there aren't specific "promotions," individuals holding certain federal recreation passes (like the America the Beautiful – National Parks & Federal Recreational Lands Pass for seniors or those with disabilities) might be eligible for reduced fees on a federal level, though this campground is managed by the state, so specific eligibility would need to be verified with the Wisconsin DNR. All campsites at East Star Lake Campground are reservable, and it is highly recommended to make reservations in advance, especially for popular weekends and during the peak season (typically mid-May through Columbus Day weekend), as sites can fill up quickly. Fun 4 day/3 night camping trip with family. Our site felt really close to the neighbors as seen in the picture. Unfortunately due to the tornado mentioned in other reviews the privacy in some of these sites is lacking. Bathrooms did not smell terribly as do some other pit toilets. They were kept very clean and stocked.
Aug 09, 2022 · Cassandra DickmannVery nice campsites. Tornado came through last year so plenty of wood down if you are willing to get it. Clean non smelly bathrooms. Pumps have potable water. Good prices. Swimming area is sandy all around. Great lake, super clear clean water. The parks lady was super helpful and nice. Absolutely recommend hiking the West Star Lake Nature trail. The boat ramp is well kept and easy to launch. There are 3 water pumps here. A gem here is the walk in sites. Its no more than a 100 or so feet to sites right on the water and clean bathrooms really close by. Despite Star Lake being quite big the landing and campground was really quiet( weekend and 90 degrees) Highly highly recommend. Great for family, couples, seniors, kids, you name it. Coming back in the fall for sure!
Jun 06, 2021 · Hunter DenisonClean and quiet. One of the prettiest lakes in the state. Note that this is a rustic campground. If you need electrical hookups and flush toilets to camp you are SOL. Generator use is allowed but with very limited restrictions. It is also NOT a partying campground. Even on weekends it is quiet by 9:00 or 10:00. As of 2022 reservations are required. However if there is an open campsite you can reserve the day of on your smartphone or at the Crystal Lake Visitors Center.
