West Star Lake Campground provides essential services designed to facilitate a comfortable and classic rustic camping experience, focusing on access to nature and basic necessities:
West Star Lake Campground boasts several highly praised features that make it a favorite among Wisconsin campers:
West Star Lake Campground, operating as a publicly managed facility (likely by the Wisconsin DNR or a local county), typically maintains a consistent fee structure throughout the camping season rather than offering frequent commercial "promotions" or "special offers." These campgrounds are designed to provide affordable outdoor recreation access for the public. You generally won't find seasonal discounts, group packages, or loyalty programs in the same way you might at private resorts.
However, the ongoing "promotion" for Wisconsin locals is the exceptional value offered by this serene lakeside retreat. The consistent availability of clean vault toilets, hand pump water, and direct lake access (including a boat ramp and sandy beach) at a reasonable nightly rate is a significant benefit. For those who frequently camp in Wisconsin's state forests or parks, an annual state parks pass might offer cost savings on vehicle entry fees, which can indirectly act as a promotion over multiple visits. It is always recommended to check the official Wisconsin DNR website (or relevant managing authority) for the most current fee schedule, reservation policies, and any available pass programs. The true appeal of West Star Lake Campground lies in its consistent ability to deliver a peaceful, high-quality, and accessible Northwoods camping experience without the need for fluctuating commercial deals.
For information regarding West Star Lake Campground, including current availability, reservation details, or specific inquiries about the site, it is best to contact the relevant managing authority, which for this public campground in the Star Lake area would typically be the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) or the local ranger station within the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest system.

For us Wisconsinites, West Star Lake Campground embodies the quintessential Northwoods camping experience that we know and love. It’s a gem that perfectly blends the rustic simplicity we often seek with the undeniable beauty of our state’s natural landscapes.
What makes this campground particularly suitable for locals is its emphasis on peaceful, direct lakeside access. The promise of "super clear water with soft sandy bottoms" is a dream for anyone looking to swim, wade, or simply relax by the lake without the muck and weeds often found elsewhere. The fact that many sites are "on the water with our own access" is an incredible luxury, allowing for immediate enjoyment of the lake, whether you're launching a kayak or just watching the sunrise over the water. This direct connection to such a pristine lake is a significant draw for families and individuals alike.
The "quiet camping" atmosphere, even with two distinct loops, provides a serene escape from daily life, which is exactly what many of us look for in a getaway. The cleanliness of the "toilet stalls" and the presence of hand pumps for water, while basic, show a commitment to maintaining essential facilities, allowing campers to truly focus on the outdoor experience. West Star Lake Campground is more than just a place to pitch a tent; it’s an invitation to experience the tranquil heart of Wisconsin's Northwoods, offering accessible beauty and peaceful moments that make it a truly beloved spot for locals seeking an authentic and rejuvenating outdoor adventure. It’s a testament to the natural wonders that make our home state so special.
One of our favorites this year! Super clear water with soft sandy bottoms. Our site was on the water with our own access. Clean toilet stalls. Would highly recommend.
Sep 18, 2023 · Terri McKinneyQuiet camping right on the lake. Very peaceful. Small campground, divided into two loops. Upper loop is tree-covered, lower loop is open to the sky. Both are on the lake but boat ramp and beach are in the lower loop. There is a hand pump in each loop to get water, and a vault toilet in each loop.
Jun 09, 2022 · Dave OkonskiI always have a great time at Star Lake with my family. The camping sites are large and clean, the nature is beautiful, and obviously the lake is pretty cool. We take our boat and have fun tubing during the day!
Apr 22, 2024 · Dexter KrakerGreat little campground and lake.
Apr 28, 2025 · Nick SWe have camped up here for years and now the DNR has decided reservation only this year and you would think that they would have a large sign up. Read the fine print they have. And when we checked on the DNR website it said nothing and that was 8/16. Well they screwed up the population of the deer and turkey in this state by first the wolves in this state and now overpopulation of bobcats and birds of prey.
