Ela RV Park | Best Riverfront RV Park in Cherokee & Bryson City Area About

For North Carolina residents seeking an outdoor escape with the convenience of an RV, finding the right park can make all the difference. Ela RV Park, nestled along the beautiful Tuckasegee River in Bryson City, offers a straightforward and well-located option for those looking to explore the stunning Great Smoky Mountains region. Advertised as "The Best Riverfront RV Park in Cherokee & Bryson City Area," Ela RV Park emphasizes its prime location and river access, making it a compelling choice for travelers prioritizing proximity to natural beauty and popular attractions.

While recent guest experiences suggest that the park is currently undergoing a period of transition and improvement, with some areas under renovation and certain amenities not always immediately available, the core appeal of Ela RV Park remains its fantastic location. It's clear that the management is actively working towards enhancing the guest experience. As one reviewer noted, "Very little looks like it does in the older pictures, but there are also signs that they are working on improvements." This indicates a commitment to upgrading the facilities, which bodes well for future visitors. The staff, when on-site, are consistently described as "sweet as could be," highlighting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

It's important for prospective visitors to understand that Ela RV Park might appeal most to those who plan to spend their days exploring the surrounding area rather than exclusively relaxing at the campsite. One review aptly summarized it: "Good for those who don't plan on relaxing at camp much." This suggests that if your main goal is to have a convenient and functional basecamp for adventures in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, kayaking the Tuckasegee River, or visiting nearby towns like Bryson City and Cherokee, Ela RV Park could be a practical choice, especially given its location and pricing. Transparency regarding current conditions is key, and it’s advisable to contact the park directly for the most up-to-date information on amenity availability, particularly concerning the pool and cleanliness of facilities.

Location and Accessibility

Ela RV Park is exceptionally well-located at 5100 Ela Rd #19, Bryson City, NC 28713, USA. Its strategic position along the Tuckasegee River places it almost perfectly between two of Western North Carolina's most popular destinations: Bryson City and Cherokee. This central location is a significant advantage for North Carolina locals looking to maximize their time exploring the region without extensive travel.

The park's address makes it easily accessible from major roads, ensuring a smooth arrival for RVs of various sizes. Being "between Bryson City and Cherokee" means you're just minutes away from a wealth of attractions. In Bryson City, you can enjoy the charm of downtown, take a ride on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, or explore the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. In Cherokee, you'll find Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort, cultural sites, and direct access to the entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The riverfront setting provides opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and tubing, right from the campground's vicinity. Furthermore, the broader area offers an abundance of outdoor activities, including hiking trails, scenic drives like the Blue Ridge Parkway, and whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River. Services Offered

Ela RV Park aims to provide the fundamental services necessary for a comfortable RV camping experience, with a focus on functionality and convenience.

  • Full Hookup RV Sites: The park offers sites equipped with full hookups, including electric (30/50 amp), water, and sewer connections. This is a crucial amenity for RVers, providing all the necessary utilities for a self-contained stay.
  • River Access: A significant highlight, the park provides access to the Tuckasegee River, which is ideal for activities like fishing, kayaking, or tubing directly from the campground. However, some reviews mention that river access sites might need improvement in terms of safety and maintenance.
  • Bathhouses: Restroom and shower facilities are available for guest use. While reviews indicate they "do the job," some suggest they might not be cleaned as frequently as desired, resembling "beach bathrooms."
  • Swimming Pool: A swimming pool is listed as an amenity, though recent reviews indicate it might not always be operational or "ready" upon arrival, particularly during renovation periods. It's advisable to confirm its status directly with the park.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: Wireless internet is available, allowing guests to stay connected during their visit.
  • Pet-Friendly: The campground is pet-friendly, allowing furry companions to join their owners. It is important to note that some reviews mention the presence of numerous stray cats on the property.

It is important for prospective guests to note that while these services are listed, ongoing renovations or maintenance might impact their immediate availability or condition. Direct communication with the park management before booking is highly recommended to confirm the current status of all amenities.

Features / Highlights

Ela RV Park’s primary features and highlights revolve around its location and the potential for outdoor enjoyment, along with ongoing efforts to improve the property.

  • Prime Riverfront Location: As highlighted in its name, the park's direct access to the Tuckasegee River is a major draw, offering opportunities for water-based activities like fishing and paddling right outside your RV door.
  • Strategic Proximity: Its location perfectly situated between the popular towns of Bryson City and Cherokee is a significant advantage, providing easy access to attractions, dining, and cultural experiences in both areas.
  • Access to Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Being so close to the national park means unparalleled convenience for hiking, scenic drives, wildlife viewing, and immersing oneself in the largest protected area in the eastern United States.
  • Affordable Pricing: Reviews suggest the park offers a "decent price" for its location and hookups, making it a budget-friendly option for those seeking practical accommodations.
  • Ongoing Improvements: While some areas might currently appear "dug up" due to renovations, this indicates a commitment from management to upgrade the park, suggesting a better future experience.
  • Functional Hookups: Guests consistently report that the "hook ups work well," ensuring reliable power, water, and sewer services for RVs.
  • Friendly Hosts: Despite other challenges, the park hosts are described as "sweet as could be" when present, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.

It's worth reiterating that while the location and basic hookups are strong points, visitors should prepare for a potentially rustic experience in terms of facility comfort, acknowledging that improvements are in progress.

Promotions or Special Offers

Information regarding specific, publicly advertised promotions or special offers for Ela RV Park is not readily available. Like many RV parks, especially those undergoing improvements, pricing often remains consistent based on daily, weekly, or monthly rates. Given the feedback about ongoing renovations and an emphasis on functionality over "frills," it's unlikely that extensive promotional deals are a central part of their current marketing strategy.

However, it is always advisable for prospective campers to contact the park directly. By calling them, you can inquire about current rates, potential discounts for extended stays, or any unadvertised specials that might be available. Direct communication will also allow you to confirm the most up-to-date information on the status of amenities and any ongoing renovation impacts on pricing.

Place looked abandoned when we arrived. Turns out no one works there on Sundays. The web site said the pool would be ready but it was not. We called two numbers and received no answer. Once the hosts were there, they were as sweet as could be. Eventually more campers arrived through the week. I don't think the bathrooms are cleaned very often. They are not terrible, but there were obvious signs that the toilet was not scrubbed for a few days. Very little looks like it does in the older pictures, but there are also signs that they are working on improvements. Location is good. Between Bryson City and Cherokee.

Stayed for three weeks. Pool was out of commission and many sites were dug up. I assume renovations are at work, but we weren't informed about it at time of booking. River access sites are gross and dangerous. Bring a machete. The kids in the nasty full time section chase you down for money. Got good stories for the need for money. The bathrooms feel like beach bathrooms. They do the job, but not very clean or comfortable. The campground is in a great location for exploration, a decent price and hook ups work well. Other than that, zero frills. Good for those who don't plan on relaxing at camp much. Must love stray cats. There are at least 30 here. I feel like they are trying to make upgrades, just lack the communication.

Had a Reservation for 9/25-9/30. Wife read bad reviews and I decided to see for myself. Good excuse to ride the Harley. The camp ground is a great spot to see Bryson, Cherokee and the Smokeys. The huge river flows right at the edge of the Campground and is down a hill a bit which can be a good thing for mountain rivers that like to rise quickly in heavy rain. The campsite was nice, has all the hook ups. Gravel parking next to a concrete patio/table. Unfortunately we had to cancel due to the tropical storm Helene. Busy later this month and after that the Campground is switching to long-term only. The bad reviews... sounds like there was an issue with the pool, don't know but too cold now. Also the manager said he had to kick out some folks for not paying and other issues, I suspect they tried to get revenge by review...

Website is very misleading!! Pool looks like it has not been opened in years! River front camping is river front, but you can’t get in the water. No real access points. I would NOT call this “the best river front camping with a pool”.
