Harbor Campground and marina About
Hello, fellow Missouri outdoor adventurers! Are you seeking a lakeside getaway that promises both convenience and a connection to nature? Let's take a closer look at Harbor Campground and Marina, situated in Hermitage, Missouri, right on the scenic shores of Pomme de Terre Lake. This establishment aims to offer a comprehensive experience, blending camping with marina access and even an on-site restaurant. While it certainly has its admirers who praise its location and friendly staff, it’s important to consider a full picture to decide if it's the right fit for your next Missouri outdoor escape.
Harbor Campground and Marina receives mixed reviews, indicating a varied experience for different visitors. Some highly recommend the "nice campground," emphasizing their love for the place and highlighting that "The owners are super friendly and great to deal with." The convenience of "having a good restaurant on the property" is another significant draw for these satisfied campers, offering a welcome amenity after a day on the lake or exploring the area. This positive feedback paints a picture of a welcoming environment with key conveniences right at your fingertips.
However, other customer experiences suggest areas where the campground might fall short of expectations. Concerns have been raised about initial customer service, with staff sometimes "barely knows anything about the campground" when making a reservation. The physical state of some amenities has also been noted, with mentions of "picnic tables are broke and destroyed" and "no fire pits" (though some campers have improvised with rocks and vehicle wheels). The bathhouse facilities are described as "run down, dirty and wasp infested," and the dump station's location can be confusing. These reviews highlight a potential inconsistency in maintenance and information dissemination.
Ultimately, Harbor Campground and Marina seems to appeal most to those who prioritize its direct proximity to Pomme de Terre Lake, the convenience of the on-site bar and restaurant, and the potential for a friendly interaction with the owners. For those seeking a highly polished, fully equipped, and meticulously maintained campground experience, it might be advisable to inquire directly about current conditions and specific site amenities before booking.
Harbor Campground and Marina is strategically located on MO-254, in Hermitage, MO 65668, USA. This address places it directly on the picturesque shores of Pomme de Terre Lake, a popular recreational lake in Hickory County, Missouri.
For Missouri residents, accessing Hermitage and the campground is generally straightforward. The area is served by state highways, making it a feasible drive from various points across the state, including the Springfield and Kansas City metropolitan areas. MO-254 provides direct access to the campground, which is beneficial for RVers and those towing boats.
The primary appeal of Harbor Campground and Marina's location is its direct lakeside access. Being on Pomme de Terre Lake means campers and marina users have immediate proximity to a wide range of water-based activities, including fishing, boating, and swimming. The convenience of having a marina on-site further enhances accessibility for boat owners, allowing for easy launching, docking, and fueling. For many, the ability to step out of their RV or tent and be just moments from the water is a significant draw. However, while the location offers prime lake access, potential visitors might want to inquire about the ease of navigating to the office upon arrival, as some reviews mention a lack of clear signage. Despite any minor navigational challenges, the overall accessibility to Pomme de Terre Lake remains a key advantage of this campground.
Harbor Campground and Marina aims to provide a blend of camping and lakeside services for its guests. Based on customer reviews, here's an overview of the services offered, keeping in mind varied experiences:
Campsites: The campground offers sites for camping, with some reviews suggesting the presence of "tents" (though the context implies spaces for tents rather than pre-erected tents). There are mentions of individual sites.
Marina Access: As its name suggests, the establishment includes a marina, implying services for boaters such as docking, launching, and potentially fuel or supplies for marine craft.
On-site Restaurant/Bar: A significant amenity is the presence of a "good restaurant on the property" (also referred to as a "bar"). This provides convenient dining options for campers and marina users, eliminating the need to leave the property for meals or drinks.
Bathhouse Facilities: The campground provides bathhouse facilities, which typically include restrooms and showers for campers. However, reviews indicate these may be "run down, dirty and wasp infested," suggesting inconsistent maintenance.
Dump Station: A dump station for RV waste is available, though one review notes its location in the long-term campground and limited access hours.
Picnic Tables (Site-Dependent/Condition Variable): While individual sites are intended to have picnic tables, reviews indicate these may be "broke and destroyed" or absent at some sites.
Fire Pits (Improvised): Customers have noted a lack of official fire pits, leading campers to create their own out of rocks and vehicle wheels, suggesting this is not a provided amenity at each site.
Long-Term Campground Area: The mention of a "long term campground" implies dedicated areas for extended stays.
Staff Interaction: Customer service at the desk is provided, though reviews mention varied experiences, with some staff being "super friendly" and others lacking detailed knowledge.
Direct Lakeside Location with Marina: The primary highlight is its prime position directly on Pomme de Terre Lake, offering unparalleled access for boating, fishing, and water recreation directly from the property. The on-site marina is a key feature for boat owners.
On-site Restaurant and Bar: The convenience of having a "good restaurant on the property" means campers and marina users don't need to leave the site for meals, offering a significant amenity for relaxation and dining.
Potential for Friendly Owners/Staff: Some reviewers consistently praise the "super friendly" owners, suggesting that positive personal interactions can greatly enhance the guest experience for some visitors.
Proximity to Bar/Restaurant: Even for those critical of other aspects, the close proximity to the bar and restaurant is noted as a strong point, making it a good spot for social gatherings or quick meals.
Nice Campground (for some): Despite mixed reviews, the description of it as a "very nice campground" by some indicates that certain guests find the overall setting and experience appealing.
Shaded Sites (Claimed, but Contradicted): While one review states that sites are "shaded," another implies this is not always the case ("all the sites are shaded" vs. "Upon arrival there are barely any signs for the office"). This suggests potential for shade, but it may vary by site or be inconsistent.
Long-Term Options: The presence of a "long term campground" area indicates suitability for extended stays, which can be a valuable feature for some campers.
Based on the provided customer reviews for Harbor Campground and Marina, there is no explicit mention of traditional "promotions" or "special offers" such as discounts, loyalty programs, or seasonal packages. The information focuses more on the general experience and amenities.
However, the "offers" inherent in its operation, which might attract certain campers, include:
Convenience of On-Site Dining: While not a discount, the presence of a "good restaurant on the property" can be seen as a value-add, saving campers time and travel expenses by providing immediate access to meals and drinks.
Lakeside Access: Direct access to Pomme de Terre Lake and an on-site marina is a significant draw, offering convenience for boaters and water enthusiasts who might otherwise have to pay for separate access or travel further.
Friendly Owner Interactions: The consistent praise for "super friendly" owners suggests that the personal touch and welcoming atmosphere could be considered a "special offer" in terms of customer service, enhancing the overall experience.
Since no specific promotions are listed in the reviews, potential visitors interested in rates, availability, or any current deals would need to contact Harbor Campground and Marina directly. It's always advisable to inquire about specific pricing for different site types (RV, tent), daily/weekly/monthly rates, and any potential off-peak season benefits they might offer, as these can vary and might not be explicitly advertised in general reviews.

It's a place where the charm of the lake and the convenience of a restaurant might just make for a memorable local getaway.
Customer Reviews
Love this place. Very nice campground. The owners are super friendly and great to deal with. Really like having a good restaurant on the property. Highly recommend.
First off when you call to reserve the individual that answers barely knows anything about the campground. States all the sites are shaded, each site has a picnic table and fire pit. Upon arrival there are barely any signs for the office, two teenagers run the desk which you have to go through a bar to get to. When you ask questions about the campground these individuals do not know anything. The camp site itself is garbage. The picnic tables are broke and destroyed. There are no fire pits, however people have made their own out of rocks and vehicle wheels. The bath house is approximately 300 yards away and are run down, dirty and wasp infested. There is no camp host, trash was left from last camper. The dump station is in the long term campground and if you didn't know that, hopefully you ask when the office is open as they are closed during the week. Overall this place is a dump. Only thing it has going for it is it is close to the bar and restaurant.
We had site 104 (water and electric only), the site was nice with plenty of shade. The site is close to the water and boat ramp, we brought the boat but didn't need it. My only complaints are that the road to the office was full of cars parked on the road and there is no designated area to park your RV while checking in. We made it through the gauntlet of cars with my trailer coming within inches of a few of them. We had the road blocked while checking in. When we we left on Sunday, the dump station was full. Someone camping with let the staff know it was full the day before.
Really nice people that has this place. Fixing the place up new restaurant will open soon. We have ate at the older one was really good.we eat at the new when we go back.
I've always gone with someone who has a camper set up there. So I haven't ever set up a tent and camped out, but I'm pretty sure that they have an area for that.
