Then you need to get acquainted with DamSite Campground, a gem managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) in Hermitage, Missouri. Nestled on the shores of the stunning Pomme de Terre Lake, DamSite Campground stands out as a consistently praised destination for campers across our great state.

DamSite Campground embodies the quality often associated with Corps of Engineers facilities. Reviews consistently highlight its "beautiful" setting and the fact that it offers "nice spacious, level campsites that are spaced apart." This thoughtful design ensures a comfortable and private experience, allowing you to truly relax and immerse yourself in nature without feeling overcrowded. The availability of electric hookups adds a layer of convenience, making it suitable for a wide range of camping preferences.

One of the most remarkable aspects of DamSite Campground, and a point of immense gratitude from its visitors, is its year-round operation. As one thankful camper noted, the Corps of Engineers deserves thanks "for keeping the campgrounds at Pomme De Terre Lake open all year." For those who travel full-time in an RV or van, or simply have family in Missouri and wish to spend winter months closer to home, this accessibility is invaluable. The ability to "come home and celebrate the holidays with my family" thanks to an open campground with electric hookups all year is a testament to the community-focused approach of the Kansas City District USACE.

While some facilities might show their age slightly, like a "bathroom that is a little aged," the "quality of campground overall is above average." This reinforces the notion that DamSite offers a solid, dependable, and genuinely enjoyable camping experience, prioritizing spaciousness, natural beauty, and accessibility over minor cosmetic updates. It’s a place where you can easily find information, enjoy beautiful natural features, and rely on consistent operation, making it a true asset for Missouri's camping community.

  • Electric Hookups: Many campsites are equipped with electric hookups. Crucially, the campground (or at least one within the Pomme de Terre Lake COE system) provides "electric all year," which is a significant advantage for colder weather camping or for RVs requiring constant power.

  • Primitive Campsites: For those preferring a more rustic experience, primitive campsites are also available, offering a back-to-basics camping opportunity.

  • Year-Round Operation: One of the most praised services is the Corps of Engineers' commitment to keeping the campgrounds at Pomme de Terre Lake, including DamSite, "open all year." This is especially beneficial for long-term RVers or those wishing to celebrate holidays with family in Missouri.

  • Bathroom Facilities: While described as "a little aged," the campground provides bathroom facilities, indicating they are functional and available for campers' convenience.

  • Waterfront Access: Many sites, such as Site 66 mentioned in a review, are "waterfront," providing direct access to Pomme de Terre Lake for fishing, boating, and scenic views.

  • Online Information Availability: The Kansas City District USACE is commended for "making information, prices, locations etc easy to find" via their website, which is a valuable service for planning visits.

  • Natural Feature Preservation: The Corps of Engineers is recognized for "making beautiful campgrounds that keep as many natural features as possible," ensuring an immersive and authentic outdoor experience.

Features / Highlights

  • Year-Round Camping with Electricity: This is a major highlight, setting DamSite Campground apart. The ability to camp with electric hookups all year, including during the winter months, is invaluable for many RVers and families, especially for those visiting family or living full-time in their RVs in Missouri.

  • Spacious and Level Campsites: The "nice spacious, level campsites that are spaced apart" ensure a comfortable, uncrowded, and easy setup experience, suitable for various types of RVs and tents.

  • Beautiful Natural Setting: As a COE campground, it's designed to "keep as many natural features as possible," offering a truly immersive outdoor experience amidst the beauty of Pomme de Terre Lake.

  • Affordable Pricing: Electric sites are noted as only $10 (or $5 with relevant passes), and primitive sites are even free during certain shoulder seasons. This affordability makes quality camping accessible to a wider range of campers.

  • America the Beautiful / Senior Pass Discounts: The acceptance of these passes for further discounts (e.g., $5 for electric sites) highlights a commitment to providing value to eligible campers, particularly seniors and those with disabilities.

  • Direct Lake Access: With waterfront sites available, campers have immediate access to Pomme de Terre Lake for water-based activities like fishing, boating, and enjoying scenic views.

  • Managed by Reputable COE: Being a Corps of Engineers campground means it adheres to high standards of maintenance and management, ensuring a reliable and generally high-quality camping experience, even if some facilities are "a little aged."

  • Easy Information Access: The praise for the Kansas City District USACE for making information (prices, locations) easy to find online greatly streamlines the planning process for potential visitors.

Promotions or Special Offers

DamSite Campground, COE, as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility, doesn't typically offer traditional "promotions" in the commercial sense. Instead, its "special offers" are structured around highly beneficial pricing policies and seasonal accessibility, which provide significant value to campers. Based on the provided reviews and common COE practices:

  • America the Beautiful / Senior Pass Discounts: This is a primary and highly valuable "offer." Campsites with electric hookups, which are normally $10, are reduced to just $5 for holders of the America the Beautiful Pass (including the Senior Pass, Access Pass, etc.). This substantial 50% discount makes camping incredibly affordable for eligible individuals.

  • Free Primitive Campsites during Shoulder Season: A standout offer mentioned is that primitive campsites are "free for primitive campsites January 5-March 14" (though campers should "check the USACE website for updates" as dates can vary). This is a fantastic opportunity for budget-conscious campers to enjoy the outdoors at no cost during a specific period.

  • Year-Round Electric Site Availability: While not a discount, the fact that there is "one campground that has electric all year" (referring to a COE campground at Pomme de Terre Lake, likely DamSite itself, or a closely associated one) is a huge "offer" for RVers. It provides essential cold-weather camping capability, especially for those with family in Missouri during winter or full-time RV residents who wouldn't normally winter in the state.

  • Consistent Value Pricing: The general pricing structure for electric sites at $10 is already very competitive for a well-maintained campground with good amenities, making it a great value proposition year-round.

It is crucial for potential campers to always "check the USACE website for updates" on specific dates for free camping and any changes to pricing or pass eligibility, as these can be subject to revision by the Corps of Engineers. However, these established policies represent significant value and accessibility for Missouri campers.

Another beautiful Corps of Engineers campground. Nice spacious, level campsites that are spaced apart. Campsites with electric are only $10 ($5 with the America the beautiful/ senior pass ) during the shoulder season and free for primitive campsites January 5-March 14 ( check the USACE website for updates ). So thankful to the Corps of Engineers for keeping the campgrounds at Pomme De Terre Lake open all year. Normally, people that live full time in an RV or Van don't winter in Missouri but with family here this is exactly where I end up spending winter months. Thanks to the Corps of Engineers campgrounds staying open and even having one campground that has electric all year, I am able to come home and celebrate the holidays with my family. There is really no way to express how grateful I am for the Kansas City District USACE.. for making information, prices, locations etc easy to find, for making beautiful campgrounds that keep as many natural features as possible, and for keeping campgrounds open all year.

Despite the rain, it really is a nice place... Not a bad site on the ground. Every site has a lake view (even if not water side). And...... we found a hidden tent/RV location off the main drive. Would definitely recommend!!!

If you wind up here in August when it’s 110, ask for a shaded site. The lake is great and the campground is not crowded. They keep the bath houses clean.
