Horseshoe RV About
For RVers traversing the vast landscapes of Texas, finding a convenient, no-fuss place to rest and recharge is often a top priority. In the heart of Ranger, Texas, Horseshoe RV aims to be just that: a straightforward and accommodating stop for both transient travelers and those looking for a longer-term base. While it might not boast the bells and whistles of a resort, it offers essential comforts and practicality, particularly appealing to those who value simplicity and efficiency on the road.
Horseshoe RV has carved out a niche for itself as a practical choice for many Texans and cross-country travelers. As one reviewer highlighted, the sites are notably "level and long enough to not have to disconnect" your rig, a significant convenience after a long day of driving. This feature alone can save valuable time and effort, making it ideal for an overnight stop or a quick rest. The park is often characterized as "very basic," which for many RVers is exactly what they're looking for – a clean, accessible spot with essential hookups without the added cost of amenities they might not use. While some feedback mentions a lack of on-site management or overt security, the park is primarily home to "mostly permanent residents," which can contribute to a stable and quiet environment. This type of community often means a reliable, consistent presence, even if formal management isn't constantly visible.
Horseshoe RV is strategically located at 1424 West Loop 254 (also referred to as 1424 TX-254 Loop), Ranger, TX 76470, USA. This position on Loop 254 offers excellent accessibility for travelers coming from various directions, particularly those utilizing Interstate 20 (I-20), a major east-west thoroughfare across Texas.
Being situated just off a main loop road means that accessing the park is typically easy, even for larger rigs. This convenience is a significant advantage for those who prioritize quick entry and exit. Ranger, Texas, while a smaller community, offers essential services nearby, including gas stations and dining options, ensuring that guests can quickly re-provision or grab a meal without venturing far from the park. For those exploring the broader Central Texas region, Horseshoe RV serves as a practical hub. It's within a reasonable driving distance of several local lakes like Lake Leon, Lake Proctor, and the Palo Pinto Creek Reservoir, offering opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. The location provides a balance: it’s easy to get to, offers nearby necessities, and serves as a solid base for regional exploration without being in the middle of a bustling urban center. This makes it an ideal spot for RVers who prefer a more relaxed setting with straightforward access to road networks.
Horseshoe RV focuses on providing core services essential for comfortable RV living, particularly for those seeking a straightforward and efficient stay. While the park is described as "basic," it offers the fundamental necessities that most RVers require.
- Full Hookups: Each RV site is equipped with essential connections including electric (30/50 amp options), water, and sewer hookups, ensuring maximum convenience for residents and guests.
- Spacious and Level Sites: A significant highlight noted by reviewers is that the sites are "level and long enough to not have to disconnect" towed vehicles, a major time-saver and convenience, especially for large rigs.
- Big Rig Friendly: The park is designed to accommodate large RVs, with sites that can handle vehicles up to 80 feet, making it accessible for a wide range of RV types.
- Dump Station: Available for waste disposal, complementing the full hookup sites.
- Tent Camping Options: For those traveling without an RV or looking for a more traditional camping experience, tent sites are also available.
- Pet Friendly: Horseshoe RV welcomes pets, allowing travelers to bring their furry companions along. Call for any specific restrictions or fees.
- Open All Year: The park operates year-round, providing a consistent option for RVers no matter the season.
The features and highlights of Horseshoe RV, while leaning towards simplicity, offer distinct advantages that make it a suitable choice for a specific type of RVer, particularly those who value practicality and convenience.
- Ease of Access off TX-254 Loop: Its location directly on a main loop road means minimal detours and easy maneuvering for RVs, greatly simplifying arrival and departure.
- Ideal for Overnight Stays: The ability to stay hooked up due to long, level sites is a huge time-saver for those just needing a night's rest while traveling through Texas.
- Primarily Permanent Residents: While one reviewer noted a lack of on-site management, the presence of "mostly permanent residents" often translates to a quieter, more stable environment. Long-term residents tend to maintain their areas well, contributing to a consistently kept park.
- No-Frills Functionality: For RVers who prefer not to pay for amenities they won't use (like pools, clubhouses, or extensive recreational facilities), Horseshoe RV provides the essentials at what is typically a more economical rate.
- Proximity to Local Lakes: Situated near Lake Leon, Lake Proctor, and the Palo Pinto Creek Reservoir, the park offers convenient access to outdoor activities like fishing, boating, and enjoying natural Texas landscapes.
- Pet-Friendly Environment: Welcoming to pets, allowing travelers to bring their beloved animals along, which is a key consideration for many RV owners.
- Accommodates Large Rigs: The generously sized pull-through sites are a significant benefit for owners of large motorhomes and fifth-wheel trailers who need ample space.
As a more basic and functionally focused RV park, specific, regularly advertised "promotions or special offers" might not be as prevalent as in larger, resort-style facilities. However, pricing structures often cater to different lengths of stay, which can act as an inherent "special offer" for those staying longer.
- Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Rates: Horseshoe RV typically offers tiered pricing, where the nightly rate decreases significantly for weekly and monthly stays. For example, reported rates are around $35 daily, $200 weekly, and $425 monthly. This makes it an attractive option for long-term residents.
- Passport America Discount: Public information indicates that Horseshoe RV is a Passport America park, meaning members of this discount camping club may receive a 50% discount on their daily rate, often making it a very economical overnight stop.
- Military Discount: Good Sam listings for Horseshoe RV indicate that military discounts may be available. It is always wise for active or veteran military personnel to inquire directly.
For the most current rates, availability, and specific details on any applicable discounts or long-term stay options, it is always best to contact Horseshoe RV directly using the information provided below.

For Texans on the go, or those looking for an affordable, straightforward place to settle down in their RV, Horseshoe RV in Ranger offers a compelling solution. Its primary suitability for locals lies in its practicality and convenience. If you’re traveling across the state and need a reliable spot where you can easily pull in, park your large rig without disconnecting, and access essential hookups, this park delivers. It’s ideal for the "plain Jane" RVer who values functionality over flashy amenities.
Furthermore, for those considering a longer stay, the significant presence of "mostly permanent residents" suggests a stable and perhaps quiet atmosphere, conducive to a relaxed, long-term lifestyle. The monthly rates are often quite competitive, making it a budget-friendly option for extended stays or even full-time RV living in a smaller Texas town. While it may not offer an on-site manager around the clock or extensive recreational facilities, its focus on providing well-maintained, level sites with full hookups caters directly to the core needs of RVers. For Texans who appreciate efficiency, affordability, and easy access to their next destination or a peaceful, long-term spot, Horseshoe RV in Ranger is a practical and reliable choice.
Customer Reviews
I did not stay at this park. Throughout the day, I called and left a message, sent a text, then called two more times. I ended up staying just down the road at Wild Country RV Resort, 580 TX-490 Spur, Cisco, TX 76437. He answered on the second ring.
Very basic. No security or on-site manager. Mostly permanent residents. However, the sites are level and long enough to not have to disconnect.
I wouldn't say this is an awesome park, but for a layover campground it was great. They have very long and level sites. We needed to stay an extra night due to our plans changing and they were very accommodating. We paid $20 a night for full hookup through Passport America. If we come back through again we will definitely stay again..
I don’t usually do negative reviews. Place needs some serious TLC. Was ok for one night to get to our next destination.
The campground has been newly purchased. The new owners are working hard to update all the amenities and sites. Full hook-ups. Escapee discount available. Easy access from I-20 but far enough away so no road noise. Large, well-spaced sites, mostly pull-thru so you don't have to unhook your car. All the staff here very friendly. We would definitely come back!
