This setting provides a unique backdrop that differentiates it from more secluded, inland campgrounds.

Hubinger Landing Campground is ideally situated at 801 Mississippi Dr, Keokuk, IA 52632, USA. This address places it directly along the western bank of the Mississippi River, offering campers unparalleled views of the water and the river traffic that defines this historic waterway. For many, the chance to be so close to such a significant natural landmark is a primary reason to choose this location.
Keokuk itself is a city with a rich history, positioned at the very southeastern tip of Iowa, where the Des Moines River meets the Mississippi. The campground's location on Mississippi Drive means it is easily accessible from major routes leading into Keokuk. Whether you're approaching from within Iowa or from neighboring Illinois or Missouri, the campground is typically straightforward to reach with an RV.
Being a city-managed park, Hubinger Landing benefits from its integration into Keokuk's infrastructure. This means that while the campground itself may be more basic, access to city amenities – such as grocery stores, gas stations, dining establishments, and local attractions like the George M. Verity Riverboat Museum and the Keokuk National Cemetery – is relatively convenient. These nearby resources can be invaluable for campers who might need to resupply or wish to explore the local culture and history during their stay.
However, it's worth noting the campground's proximity to active railroad lines, a common feature along major riverfronts. This can mean the presence of train noise, including horns, which is a consideration for light sleepers or those seeking absolute tranquility. Despite this, the direct riverfront access and views remain a significant draw for many who appreciate the dynamic environment of a working river. The open, flat terrain of the campground also ensures ease of maneuvering for recreational vehicles of various sizes.
Hubinger Landing Campground is designed primarily for RV camping, offering essential services to support a comfortable, albeit basic, stay. It's important for prospective campers to have a clear understanding of what is provided to manage expectations.
- RV Hookups (Water and Electric): A key service at Hubinger Landing is the provision of RV hookups, including both water and electrical connections. This is crucial for RV campers who rely on these utilities for their vehicle's systems, such as lighting, appliances, and climate control. The availability of 20, 30, and 50 amp service is typically offered, accommodating a range of RV power needs.
- River Vista: While not a tangible "service," the "river vista" is explicitly mentioned as a feature, indicating that the primary draw is the scenic view of the Mississippi River. This essentially means campers can enjoy a waterfront experience directly from their site.
- Payment at Southside Boat Club: Payment for campsites at Hubinger Landing is conveniently handled at the Southside Boat Club, which is adjacent to the RV spots. This streamlines the check-in process and provides a readily accessible point of contact for campers.
- No Pre-Reservations: According to information available, Hubinger Landing Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning no spots can be reserved ahead of time. This is an important detail for planning, especially during peak seasons, as availability cannot be guaranteed in advance.
It is important to note that public information suggests there are no bathrooms or showers available directly at the campground. Campers should plan accordingly, relying on their RV's facilities or exploring other options in the nearby city of Keokuk. This is a crucial piece of information for any potential visitor.
Beyond the basic services, Hubinger Landing Campground offers several features and highlights that contribute to its unique appeal, particularly for those who appreciate riverside living and convenient access to local attractions.
- Mississippi Riverfront Location: The most significant highlight is its direct location on the Mississippi River. This offers campers unobstructed views of the river, opportunities to observe barges and other river traffic, and a chance to feel immersed in the grandeur of one of America's most iconic waterways.
- Proximity to Southside Boat Club: Being adjacent to the Southside Boat Club means campers have easy access to its facilities, including a grill/bar. This can be a convenient option for dining and socializing without having to drive far from the campsite.
- Flat Terrain for RVs: The campground features flat terrain, which is highly beneficial for RV parking and leveling. This ensures an easier setup process for campers, regardless of the size of their recreational vehicle.
- Access to Keokuk Attractions: While the campground itself is relatively simple, its location in Keokuk means campers are a short distance from several local points of interest. These include the George M. Verity Riverboat Museum, the Keokuk National Cemetery, and the city's historic downtown area, providing opportunities for sightseeing and exploration during your stay.
- Views of Historic Train Station (with caveats): There is a beautiful restored Romanesque train station nearby. While rows of train cars may sometimes obstruct the view, the presence of such historic architecture hints at the rich past of the area, adding a layer of historical interest for visitors.
Hubinger Landing Campground, being a municipal park managed by the City of Keokuk, typically offers straightforward and accessible pricing rather than complex promotional schemes often found in private campgrounds. Based on available public information, the primary "special offer" or pricing structure that stands out is the provision of discounted rates for specific groups, demonstrating a commitment to affordability for certain community members.
- Senior (55+) Discount: Hubinger Landing offers a reduced nightly rate for seniors aged 55 years and older. This makes camping more affordable for retirees and older adults, which is a common and appreciated policy in many public campgrounds.
- Veteran Discount: In recognition of their service, veterans are also eligible for a discounted nightly rate. This is a valuable offer for those who have served in the military, providing a small token of appreciation for their contributions.
The standard fee for a night's stay is approximately $24, with the discounted rate for seniors and veterans around $20 per night. These rates are generally competitive for water and electric hookups, especially given the prime riverfront location. While there are no recurring "buy-one-get-one-free" or seasonal package deals explicitly advertised, the consistent offering of these discounts serves as a form of ongoing promotion for eligible campers.
Campers should always verify the most current pricing and discount eligibility directly with the Southside Boat Club when paying for their site, as rates can be subject to change by the city. It's also advisable to ask about any unadvertised local promotions that might be available during your visit.
For all inquiries related to Hubinger Landing Campground, including questions about availability, current rates, and any specific concerns, the primary point of contact is the City of Keokuk's Parks Department, or more directly, the location where payments are processed.

For Iowans, particularly those residing in or around Southeast Iowa, Hubinger Landing Campground offers a distinct and often appealing option for recreational vehicle camping. Its suitability for locals stems from several key factors, balancing its basic amenities with significant advantages.
Firstly, its unparalleled location directly on the Mississippi River provides an experience that is hard to replicate. For many Iowans, the river is a vital part of the state's natural and economic landscape, and camping right alongside it offers unique views of barges, wildlife, and the sheer scale of the waterway. This direct riverfront access is a major draw for those who appreciate scenic beauty and the dynamic environment of a working river. It’s an opportunity to connect with one of Iowa’s most iconic natural features without traveling far from home.
Secondly, the affordability and accessibility of Hubinger Landing make it a practical choice. With water and electric hookups, it caters to the essential needs of RV campers. The first-come, first-served policy, while sometimes a challenge during peak times, also means spontaneity for local trips is possible. The discounted rates for seniors and veterans further enhance its appeal to specific segments of the Iowa population, demonstrating an effort to make camping accessible to a wider community. This pricing structure often contrasts favorably with private campgrounds, making it a budget-friendly option for a quick getaway or extended stay.
While it's important for locals to be aware of the lack of on-site restrooms and showers, and the potential for train noise, these aspects can be mitigated by self-contained RVs and by understanding the nature of a riverfront, city-managed campground. The trade-off for these considerations is the prime location and relatively low cost.
Furthermore, its integration into the City of Keokuk allows campers to easily access local attractions and amenities. Whether it’s exploring historic sites, grabbing supplies, or enjoying local dining, the convenience of city proximity enhances the camping experience. This means campers don't have to sacrifice modern conveniences entirely for a natural setting.
In summary, Hubinger Landing Campground is a suitable choice for Iowa locals seeking a straightforward, scenic, and affordable RV camping experience on the Mississippi River. It's ideal for those who prioritize river views and convenient hookups, are comfortable with basic amenities, and appreciate the proximity to local Keokuk attractions. For a genuine taste of Iowa's river culture, Hubinger Landing provides a practical and enjoyable base camp.
Customer Reviews
Two star rating is generous but the location along the Mississippi earns it a second star. There are no bathrooms. No showers. No one told us about the chorus of diesel BNSF locomotives just across the street running all night. One of them must have had a bad cylinder as it sounded like someone beating a bass drum inside our RV. Drove us crazy. A train leaving at 9:30 at night sounded it's horn 13 times in the short stretch along the water while leaving town. (Yes, I understand there are regulations that require horn blowing but those regulations also allow quiet zones (and times) if the crossings are marked and signaled which they are.) There is a incredibly beautiful restored Romanesque train station just down the road. Too bad you can't see it as BNSF parks rows of train cars in front blocking any view. BNSF has pretty well destroyed the waterfront for this historic city. Add to this the locals roaring their un-muffled Harleys up and down the road by the campground and we won't be back.
Unmanaged! Someone is cleaning out their garage in 4 of the campsites. Doing repairs on a mobile home. Where's management?! Could be a great spot with a great view.
Awesome new things coming...for our town..
Appears to be abandoned. Looks unmanaged and unsafe.
Nice view.
