Indian Creek Recreation Area About
For Louisiana locals seeking a genuine outdoor experience, Indian Creek Recreation Area in Woodworth, LA, stands out as a beloved and long-standing favorite. Managed by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, this expansive recreation area offers a blend of natural beauty and well-maintained facilities centered around the impressive 2,600-acre Indian Creek Lake. It’s a place that prides itself on "old school charm and safety," providing a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whether you're looking for a quiet weekend of fishing, a family-friendly spot to make memories, or simply a spacious campsite under the Louisiana sky, Indian Creek Recreation Area aims to deliver a classic camping adventure.
The appeal for many lifelong campers is evident in their loyalty. One enthusiastic visitor declared, "It's our favorite camping site in Louisiana. While it may not have your water park amenities, it has old school charm and safety. We do enjoy the peace and quiet we get out here along with a little space for privacy in the shade." This highlights the park's focus on traditional camping values. However, some long-time patrons have observed changes: "I have been camping at Indian creek before the campground opened, when the inmates worked here this place was so well maintained, by Friday all campsites and fire rings were cleaned. I have spent the first 2 hours trying to clean my spot. Now we have golf carts and electric everything that goes faster than 15 mph and kids driving wide open. I still am a fan but don’t like what is happening." These comments suggest a shift in maintenance standards and an increase in recreational vehicle use, which modernizes the park but might alter the serene atmosphere some long-term campers cherish. Despite these evolving dynamics, Indian Creek Recreation Area remains a significant and popular destination for Louisiana's outdoor enthusiasts.

- Variety of Camping Options: With RV sites, tent sites, and cabins, Indian Creek caters to a broad spectrum of campers, ensuring everyone can find an accommodation style that suits their needs and preferences.
- Managed by Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry: Being state-managed means the park benefits from a focus on conservation, public access, and generally consistent maintenance standards, though recent reviews suggest some fluctuations in this area.
- Alexander State Forest Setting: The recreation area is nestled within the Alexander State Forest, providing a beautiful backdrop of pine forests, opportunities for wildlife viewing, and a sense of being immersed in nature.
- Recreational Activities: Beyond camping, visitors can enjoy fishing, swimming (at designated beach areas), hiking on available trails within the forest, and potentially other organized activities during peak seasons.
It's worth noting the recent feedback regarding increased golf cart use and potential changes in maintenance, which might affect the "quiet" aspect for some campers. However, the core natural beauty and spaciousness remain significant highlights.
As a state-managed recreational area operated by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry, Indian Creek Recreation Area typically focuses on providing affordable public access rather than extensive commercial promotions. However, for Louisiana locals, there are inherent "offers" in terms of value and accessibility that are beneficial.
- Affordable Rates: Generally, fees for campsites, cabin rentals, and day use at state parks and recreation areas like Indian Creek are kept at a reasonable level, making quality outdoor experiences accessible to a wide range of Louisiana families and individuals. This value is a significant "special offer" in itself compared to private resorts.
- Seasonal Passes or Memberships: While not a specific "promotion" for this campground, the Louisiana Office of State Parks sometimes offers annual passes that can provide cost savings for frequent visitors across multiple state parks and recreation areas. It's advisable to check the Louisiana State Parks website for any such statewide programs that might apply to Indian Creek.
- Group Rates: For larger groups, family reunions, or organized events, there may be specific rates or reservation procedures for pavilions and group camping areas. It is always best to inquire directly.
- Off-Peak Season Value: During less busy times of the year (outside of major holidays, spring break, or summer weekends), campers may find more availability and a quieter experience, offering a different kind of "value" even if the rates don't change.

It's our favorite camping site in lousiana. While is may not have your water park amenities, it has old school charm and safety. We do enjoy the peace and quiet we get out here along with a little space for privacy in the shade.
I have been camping at Indian creek before the camp ground opened, when the inmates worked here this place was so well maintained, by Friday all camp sites and fire rings were cleaned. I have spent the first 2 hours trying to clean my spot. Now we have golf carts and electric everything that goes faster than 15 mph and kids driving wide open. I still am a fan but don’t like what is happening.
We go here to picnic and enjoy the outdoors. We go fishing and occasionally swimming at the beach areas. The playground area is nice for the kids and teenagers to play and hangout.
Indian Creek Recreation Area is a very nice campground and lake. Great central Louisiana!! Near the Wild Azalea Trail and Hardwater Lake too. Lots of fun activities to choose from.
We went on a scout campout in the primitive area . Here is what you need to know about primitive camping. It is first come first serve. There are no reservations for primitive sites. The primitive area has a lot of spots to pick from, but they are truly primitive. There are no tables, pavilions, fire rings, electrical hook ups or water, so bring what you need. There are restrooms in the primitive area though they were out of order due to the freeze the weekend we went. It is a short drive to the restrooms near the RVs which have showers and are temperature controlled. There is a hiking loop that is a little more than three miles which is a low difficulty hike appropriate for most hikers. There are beaches and fishing, though it was near freezing the day we went so we did not use those amenities.
