Located at 1565 Collinstown Road, Jessup Mill isn't just a campground; it's a vibrant community hub, a peaceful river retreat, and a place where a "chill, mellow, festival - community vibe" truly flourishes. As one ecstatic reviewer shared, it's "one of the most Serene places I have ever been." Imagine spending your days floating down a shaded river, your evenings under the stars, and your time connecting with genuinely friendly hosts and fellow nature lovers. This grassroots establishment offers a unique blend of tranquility and engaging experiences, making it an ideal choice for locals looking to truly unwind and reconnect with the natural beauty of their state.

Jessup Mill's location at 1565 Collinstown Road, Westfield, NC 27053, places it in Stokes County, nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This area of North Carolina is renowned for its natural beauty, including rolling hills, scenic rivers, and a more relaxed pace of life compared to the state's bustling urban centers. Westfield itself is a small, unincorporated community, adding to the remote and peaceful feel of Jessup Mill. Despite its tranquil setting, Jessup Mill is remarkably accessible for many North Carolinians. It's typically within a reasonable driving distance from major cities like Winston-Salem (approx. 45-60 minutes), Greensboro (approx. 1.5 hours), and even parts of Raleigh (approx. 2.5-3 hours).

The advantage of this location is that it offers a genuine escape without requiring an extensive journey. The drive itself is part of the experience, leading you through charming rural landscapes. Access to the property is straightforward via well-maintained local roads. Crucially, Jessup Mill is located directly on the Dan River, which is central to its appeal and activities. This direct river access is a major draw, allowing visitors immediate entry to the serene waterway. The commitment of the owner, Lane, to ensuring guests are "well taken care of" and have "safe places to camp and chill" further enhances the sense of welcome and ease of access for all visitors.

Services Offered:

  • River Floats: The flagship service is the highly praised river float experience, typically lasting around "three and a half hour". This includes access to the Dan River, with the added benefit of shade from treetops for much of the journey.
  • Camping Sites: Provides spaces for camping, with reviewers noting "spot we camped, just on the other side of the river, was quiet and calm." This suggests varied camping options, likely catering to tents. (Specific details on RV hookups are not highlighted, indicating a more traditional, primitive or basic camping setup).
  • Personalized Host Interaction: The owner, Lane, is highly praised for being "just an email away" and spending "plenty of time hanging around to make sure my kiddo and I were well taken care of," offering "safe places to camp and chill, dinner recommendations, and some great conversation." This level of personal attention is a significant service highlight.
  • Community Vibe: While not a tangible service, the intentional cultivation of a "chill, mellow, festival - community vibe space" by the hosts contributes significantly to the overall experience.
  • Potential for On-Site Food/Beverage: Although not explicitly detailed, the mention of "dinner recommendations" implies either a lack of on-site full-service food or perhaps a small, informal offering, with external recommendations provided. However, reviews do not mention a dedicated restaurant or café.
  • Event Hosting: The reference to "midsummer tunes" and "yoga with a new yoga friend" suggests that Jessup Mill hosts various community events, including live music and wellness activities. (Visitors should check their schedule for specific event dates and offerings).
  • Quiet and Calm Environment: A key service is providing an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and unwinding, away from the typical crowds.

Features / Highlights:

  • Serene River Experience: The 3.5-hour river float on the Dan River is a major highlight, celebrated for its tranquility, and the natural shade provided by trees along the banks.
  • Authentic "Grassroots" Vibe: Jessup Mill offers an alternative to "state park camping," characterized by a more informal, community-driven, and less commercialized atmosphere.
  • Exceptional Hospitality: The owner, Lane, and presumably his team, are consistently lauded for their friendliness, accommodating nature, and genuine care for guests, fostering a welcoming environment.
  • Scenic Natural Beauty: The location in Westfield, amidst the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and along the Dan River, provides a picturesque backdrop for outdoor activities.
  • Opportunities for Music and Wellness: The mention of "midsummer tunes" and "yoga" indicates that Jessup Mill periodically hosts events that enhance the visitor experience beyond just camping and floating.
  • Peaceful Camping Spots: Reviewers note the "quiet and calm" nature of the camping areas, ideal for truly unwinding.
  • Family-Friendly Atmosphere: The reviewer bringing their "13 year old son" highlights its suitability for families seeking an engaging outdoor adventure together.
  • Disconnect and Relax: The overall spirit of Jessup Mill is geared towards allowing visitors to "truly relax away from the hustle," making it perfect for an unplugged getaway.

Promotions or Special Offers:

As Jessup Mill cultivates a unique, grassroots, and community-oriented atmosphere rather than a highly commercial one, formal "promotions" in the traditional sense might not be widely advertised. However, North Carolinians interested in visiting should directly inquire about:

  • Group Rates: If planning a trip with a larger group, it's always worth asking about potential group discounts for camping or river floats.
  • Event Packages: For specific music or yoga events, there might be package deals that combine event access with camping. Checking their social media channels or directly contacting them about upcoming events would be the best approach.
  • Mid-week Specials: Sometimes, less busy periods, like weekdays, might offer more competitive rates or more personalized attention.
  • Return Visitor Perks: Given the emphasis on community and repeat visits, loyal customers might find special considerations or early access to popular events.

The best way to learn about any current offerings or to secure a spot for a desired date, especially for events, is to contact Jessup Mill directly via phone or email, as implied by the owner being "just an email away."

This is one of the most Serene places I have ever been. The three and a half hour River float is amazing. The best part is that the river is not super wide in most places and you get some shade from the treetops so you are not in the blazing sun the entire 3 1/2 hours.

Took my 13 year old son up here for the weekend. I’ve been wanting to check it out for some time, and the entire experience was even better than I expected. Lane runs a chill, mellow, festival - community vibe space. He was always just an email away, and spent plenty of time hanging around to make sure my kiddo and I were well taken care of. The longer river float was one of the most peaceful days spent on a river (okay - minus the appalachiarantulas lol) and the spot we camped, just on the other side of the river, was quiet and calm. Lane took plenty of time to make sure we had everything we needed, including safe places to camp and chill, dinner recommendations, and some great conversation. If you’re looking for a grassroots place to truly relax away from the hustle of state park camping, you’ve got to check this place out. We will definitely head back up to hopefully enjoy some midsummer tunes, maybe some yoga with a new yoga friend (Alicia everywhere we go, there we are!) and overall tap into the mellow nature that surrounds the land and the spirit of Jessup Mill. Thanks for such a great time you guys!

Last minute camping trip. Nice out of the way spot. Spent both nights listening to the water flow over the dam and the wildlife. So nice not to hear traffic, industry, or other noises. Some really neat camping options on the hill. Caretaker was very nice and helpful. Very laid back and casual place. Campsite is designed for campers to interact with other campers. Has running water, firewood, three bathrooms with showers. We brought our dog and he was welcome.

We went tubing, took the 3 hour float! The staff was friendly and got us right out on the river. The Dan river here is wonderful. Almost trash free and clean . Rock formations all along the trip. With a few small rapids. The river was NOT crowded. We had it to ourselves , the entire float. It's a remote float , but worth the ride to get to Stokes County. I cant wait to go again!!

My friends and I were looking for a place to go tubing from Raleigh and chose this one on the basis that you can make reservations from their website and they had great reviews. Andrew was really helpful in responding to my questions regarding the water level and helping us to make the decision to drive out from Raleigh. We had a great time, the river is beautiful and everyone was very friendly. The Mill is also a very beautiful old building. Since they seem to cater towards families rather than large groups, the river was peaceful and felt secluded. We will definitely be back sometime for the camping and live music (and more tubing of course)!
