Introduction / Overview

Kings Mountain Point Picnic Pavilion (NC) is more than just a picnic spot; it's a designated recreation area offering diverse opportunities for outdoor enjoyment. Situated in Badin, North Carolina, this site provides a welcoming environment for various activities, including picnicking, lake access for swimming and boating, and potentially camping. While the name emphasizes the picnic pavilion, the broader context of a "recreation.gov" listing and user reviews suggests it encompasses a wider range of outdoor amenities. For North Carolina locals, this means having access to a versatile outdoor space where they can host gatherings, enjoy water-based activities on Lake Tillery, and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region. The appeal of such a location lies in its ability to offer both structured facilities like picnic tables and access to natural elements like the lake. User feedback, even with its humorous critique of "condescending squirrels," points to the presence of "AWESOME" picnic tables and a generally enjoyable atmosphere for outdoor recreation. It's a place where families can spread out, friends can gather, and individuals can find solace in nature, all within a designated public recreation area.

Location and Accessibility

The location of Kings Mountain Point Picnic Pavilion (NC) is a significant advantage for North Carolina residents, offering picturesque scenery and reasonable accessibility. The recreation area is located at 398 Kings Mountain Rd, Badin, NC 28127, USA. This address places it within Stanly County, a region known for its beautiful lakes, including Lake Tillery and Badin Lake, and its proximity to the Uwharrie National Forest.

Its situation near Lake Tillery is a major highlight, as it provides direct access for water-based activities like swimming and boating from the "cove boat ramp." For North Carolina locals, this means convenient access to one of the state's popular freshwater lakes, perfect for a day out on the water. The access road (Kings Mountain Rd) is generally well-maintained, allowing for easy navigation for vehicles, including those towing boats or RVs if camping is permitted at specific sites. Badin itself is a smaller town, offering a tranquil atmosphere, but it is within a reasonable drive of larger communities for supplies and services. The proximity to the Uwharrie National Forest also opens up opportunities for additional outdoor pursuits like hiking and mountain biking, making Kings Mountain Point a gateway to broader regional recreation. While one reviewer expressed concern about grass growth around swimming and camping areas, suggesting a need for more diligent maintenance in certain spots for optimal lake access, the overall location remains highly desirable for those seeking a natural retreat by the water in central North Carolina.

I love going to cove boat ramp and going swimming, my concern is why??? Does the park allow all the grass to grow around the edges of that area & the camping sites. I can see letting the grass or plant life grow in areas that are not being used to go in and swim. I think they should manage the control of it being there and in the way of getting in the lake for swimmers. Especially paying campers who camp there and "try" to get into the lake and avoid the grass to get in...

AWESOME!!! Best picnic tables around!!!! The squirrels can be condescending at times. Alcohol helps to ignore their comments. Just drink before you come because there are no alcoholic beverages permitted.

Nice little paved walk way around the point with several hiking trails near by. Several pit toilets and a big shelter with picket tables and grills. Several piers for fishing and a Frisbee golf course. Day use area only, no overnight.
