Boiling Spring Campground, LLC About

Introduction / Overview

For Missourians seeking a genuine outdoor experience with a rustic charm, Boiling Spring Campground, LLC in Dixon offers a promising retreat. This isn't your average commercial campground; it's a place that prides itself on providing a secluded, natural setting, often described as having "tons of space" and being an "absolutely beautiful area." While it has a history as a Boy Scout campground, it now welcomes all types of campers, from primitive tent enthusiasts to RVers and even boat aficionados.

Boiling Spring Campground is nestled by the Big Piney River, making it an excellent base for float trips and other water-based activities. The focus here is on the natural environment and a more laid-back camping style, rather than extensive modern amenities. Visitors often praise the friendly and accommodating staff who go out of their way to assist, even after hours, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. While past experiences have noted temporary issues related to recent flooding, indicating ongoing efforts to restore and improve facilities, the underlying sentiment points to a dedicated team working to enhance the camper's experience. If you're looking for a private, pet-friendly spot to unwind by the water, away from the hustle and bustle, Boiling Spring Campground holds significant appeal for Missouri's outdoor adventurers.

Location and Accessibility

Boiling Spring Campground, LLC is located at 18700 Cliff Rd, Dixon, MO 65459, USA. This address places it in a secluded and picturesque part of rural Missouri, specifically near the Big Piney River. Dixon is a small town in Pulaski County, offering a quiet escape from larger urban centers.

For Missouri residents, the campground is surprisingly accessible despite its secluded feel. It's noted as being "only 15 minutes off the highway," referring to Interstate 44 (I-44), a major East-West corridor traversing the state. This makes it a convenient stop for those on longer road trips or a straightforward drive for a weekend getaway.

  • From St. Louis: Approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.

  • From Kansas City: Approximately 3 hours.

  • From Springfield, MO: Approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

  • From Jefferson City: Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The campground's location by the Big Piney River is a significant draw, offering direct access to water for floating, fishing, or simply enjoying the riverside ambiance. While secluded and private, it's not entirely isolated. The review mentioning a recommendation from a shop near the Uranus Fudge Factory suggests that it's within a reasonable driving distance of some quirky local attractions, providing a blend of natural retreat and nearby points of interest. However, campers should be aware that the drive might involve navigating some unpaved or less maintained roads to reach the secluded areas, especially after conditions like flooding. The presence of sand on the campground after flooding indicates a direct relationship with the river's dynamics. For those seeking a truly private and natural setting away from major crowds, the location of Boiling Spring Campground is a key feature.

Services Offered

Boiling Spring Campground, LLC focuses on providing a fundamental and rustic camping experience with a strong emphasis on access to the natural environment. While some amenities might be in various states of repair or seasonal operation, the core services cater to diverse camping preferences:

  • Campsites: The campground offers "tons of space" with sites suitable for "RV, primitive campers," and boat enthusiasts. This indicates a mix of primitive tent camping areas and spots that can accommodate RVs, likely with electric hookups (though a review notes these were not working post-flood).

  • Float Rentals: As a "River Safari" provider, the campground offers float rentals, likely including rafts or other watercraft, for excursions on the Big Piney River.

  • Restrooms: Basic bathroom facilities are available. One review noted a "run down" bathroom and a well water smell in the shower, suggesting a rustic standard that may be undergoing improvements, especially after flooding.

  • Firewood: The staff is noted for being accommodating, with one instance of them setting out firewood for a camper after hours, indicating a willingness to assist with basic camping needs.

  • Pet-Friendly: The campground is explicitly described as "Pet friendly too!", making it a welcoming destination for campers traveling with their furry companions.

  • Staff Assistance: The owners and staff are highly praised for being "very nice" and working "very hard to try to make our experience better," even when facing challenges like flood aftermath. They are described as "easy to get along with."

  • Seasonality: Operations might be seasonal, with references to being "the first of the season" and "still opening up," suggesting a period of full operation and a period where services might be limited.

It is crucial for potential visitors to contact the campground directly to confirm the current status of amenities, especially after any weather events, as infrastructure can be affected.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the provided customer reviews, Boiling Spring Campground, LLC does not explicitly advertise specific promotions or special offers in the traditional sense (e.g., percentage discounts or package deals). The reviews primarily focus on the base experience and pricing.

While one review noted that the float rentals felt "a little high for my budget on this weekend road trip," this implies that prices are available and could potentially be part of future bundled offers, or simply reflect standard market rates for float trip services in the area.

As a privately owned campground, it's possible they offer seasonal rates, especially during off-peak times, or loyalty discounts for returning customers. Given the mention of the owner actively working to improve the campground after flooding, they might introduce special re-opening rates or incentives once all facilities are fully operational and improved.

First off this was recommended to us buy a shop near the Uranus fudge factory, unfortunately when we went there they didn't have the electricity working for the RV hookups because they had had a flood the month before. It's actually a boy scout campground and we were the first of the season so they were still opening up., the owner who was an older gentleman was very nice, the lady who ran the desk was also very easy to get along with. And overall the overnight experience was really good for basic primitive camping. I'm sure in a month or so when everything is back up and running good I would gladly give this place five stars, however the one small concession I had was the shower smelled like the water was coming from well water up at the main office which was probably because of the flooding before. But the bathroom was run down and was not real well maintained, one other thing I would recommend if you stay down by the river make sure to bring citronella and bug spray, we forgot and dealt with bugs half a night, but this is to be expected with anything next to water. One final thing I would recommend being aware of is after all the flooding there was a lot of sand on the campground, however I talked to the owner andb it was something he was working on before this season officially opens. I know my review sounds like there's a lot of issues going on right now but I honestly believe the owner and the staff worked very hard to try to make our experience better, and yes I would recommend this for RV, primitive campers, and boat enthusiasts alike if you're passing through the area I need a place to stay, they have float rentals but I felt was a little high for my budget on this weekendb road trip. Only 15 minutes off the highway and it was very secluded in private and if I need a night to cry somewhere in that area I'll be stopping again.

Spent 5 nights there and loved every minute! Great staff! We needed to change our float trip to a shorter distance and they were very accommodating. The owner knows all of the history of the area and we loved listening to all the stories! All the necessary hookups and right by the river, with great access to the river! Would like better cell service but was nice to unplug as well; and they had a hotspot by the office when needed.

We did the 5 mile float with an unorganized group of 7. They were amazing to work with on reservation changes and moved our float back during rain so we were able to go. I would 100% book with them again, we had an amazing time on the float and they had great service.
