Introduction / Overview
Lake Demmon Campground, officially known as the Lake Demmon Recreation Area, presents itself as a private, family-friendly destination nestled in the serene environment of Steuben County, New York, within the beautiful Finger Lakes Region. For decades, this location has been a favorite for locals seeking a quiet escape to a natural setting. The campground is situated along the shores of Lake Demmon—a clean, spring-fed body of water sometimes referred to as Lake Demon or Demon Pond—which is known for its excellent fishing and gentle swimming areas.
The facility is promoted as a tranquil spot surrounded by lush trees and natural beauty, offering various camping options from RV sites with full hookups to traditional tent camping areas. It also features a range of recreational amenities and on-site conveniences, such as a snack shack serving homemade pizza and ice cream. The operational season for the campground typically runs from May 1st to October 15th, welcoming all types of campers seeking a taste of upstate New York’s outdoor life.
However, it is vital for New York users to approach this destination with current and comprehensive information. Recent and consistent customer reviews available from multiple online sources (such as the provided examples) have highlighted significant and concerning issues regarding the maintenance and management of the facility. Specifically, guests have reported that the grounds, including common areas like bathrooms, showers, and the playground, are in poor condition, with cleanliness being a major issue. Other reported problems include poorly maintained garbage areas, non-functioning sewer hookups for which full payment was taken, and questionable business practices, such as cash-only payment requirements and issues with refund policies. Potential visitors are strongly advised to perform due diligence and consider these verified customer reports when making a reservation decision.

Conclusion: Why This Place Is Suitable for Locals
Historically and conceptually, Lake Demmon Campground is designed to be a local retreat, offering a simple, nature-focused getaway that capitalizes on a beautiful, quiet lake environment near Bath, NY. Its location in Steuben County makes it an accessible option for residents in Western and Central New York looking to escape the bustle and enjoy the region’s outdoor life.
The potential benefits of visiting include excellent fishing, a private lake swimming area, and a relaxed environment away from the crowds of the larger Finger Lakes. For local RV owners, the availability of full hookups and a dump station is a key convenience. The proximity to ATV trails and the greater Finger Lakes attractions adds flexibility to any weekend itinerary, making it a viable base camp for regional exploration.
However, prospective guests are strongly urged to exercise caution and contact the campground directly to inquire about the current status of the facilities. The highly critical, consistent feedback from recent visitors—detailing significant maintenance issues, filth in public facilities, and reported concerns over business practices—suggests that the facility may not currently meet the standard of service that New York campers expect and deserve. While the natural setting of Lake Demmon itself remains appealing, the experience at the campground is heavily dependent on the operational quality, which has been severely questioned by local users. An informed decision is essential to ensure your upstate New York camping experience is a positive one.

I expected to have a good time at the campground, but it's clear this place caters to people who live in trash. The playground is in disrepair, and there's trash everywhere. The bathrooms are filthy, and I've taken photos as evidence. The garbage area is poorly maintained, and the sewage doesn't work. I paid for full hookup but didn't receive it. When I asked for a refund, she refused. It's concerning that she only accepts cash, which may be a way to avoid paying taxes. She can also evict people without proof of payment. This place appears to be a scheme to make quick money. I'm sure she'll try to remove this post, but I'll share the photos and my comments on Google Maps to ensure the truth is shared.
Jul 14, 2025 · Clementine BerkleyThis place could be an amazing place but it is filthy, dog feces on the beach, showers and bathrooms a mess and filthy !! This place needs someone that cares !!

Jul 07, 2019 · Brendan GillenYesterday September 24th we went to lake demon, we enjoyed the trails but after we finished riding we stopped by to show the campground to hopefully show my friend the campground itself because they wanted to enjoy with the group next year. We parked the ATV’s upfront the bathrooms to walk around and this lady came in saying she’s the manager of the camping area with a big attitude came to lock the bathrooms, threatened to kick my group out and call the police. And she used so many F words when I tried to explain why we were parked there she yelled, “I don’t give a F-, get the F- out of here!” She then proceeded to yell “not to come back!” Right after yelling at my sister with her kids in the car that she was going to jail and she’d better have fun in jail. It’s a shame after me and my family for so many years we come camping their, 11years of commitment to camping with the group once every year that this is how the people in charge treat there customers. I am beyond disappointed and there’s not enough words in the English dictionary to express that.
Sep 25, 2023 · Manuel GonzalezThe owner is very rude. We stopped there with the kids looking to camp here. The owner came to us on his atv and told us we had to leave since we weren't campers. I told him how we wanted to be. He yelled in front of our kids and said if we don't leave he would call the police. He acted as if he was drunk. We drove around the lake and stopped to talk to one of the residents. They explained he is like that. Not a friendly guy. Wow.....
