This campground truly caters to the unique needs of group gatherings, making it an ideal destination for scout troops, church groups, extended family reunions, or any large collection of friends looking to escape into nature together.
Its location within the Ocala National Forest is a significant advantage for locals. We're fortunate to have such a vast and diverse natural landscape right in our backyard, offering endless opportunities for exploration and recreation. Lake Shore Group Campground provides a dedicated, purpose-built space that allows larger groups to enjoy these natural wonders without the logistical challenges often associated with coordinating multiple individual campsites. The ample shade, a blessing in Florida’s sunny climate, ensures comfort throughout the day, while the direct access to Fore Lake opens up a world of aquatic activities, from swimming in its sandy bottom to paddling across its calm waters.
The practical amenities, including clean bathrooms with warm showers and a spacious pavilion with grilling facilities, remove much of the roughing-it aspect, making the experience enjoyable even for those who prefer a bit more comfort. The presence of bear-proof trash cans and the clear guidance on food storage underscore a commitment to responsible coexistence with wildlife, something familiar and appreciated by those who regularly enjoy Florida's wilderness.
While the mention of ticks is a factual and important reminder for preparedness (as with any outdoor activity in Florida), it speaks to the authentic, wild nature of the environment, encouraging responsible enjoyment rather than deterring visitors. Floridians understand the importance of bug spray and checking for ticks as part of embracing our subtropical environment.
Ultimately, Lake Shore Group Campground offers a fantastic opportunity for locals to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with each other amidst Florida's stunning natural beauty. It's a place where children can explore a small trail, families can share meals under the trees, and groups can forge stronger bonds around a campfire. It's a testament to the fact that you don't need to travel far to find a truly enriching outdoor adventure, making it a perfect, readily available escape for communities across the Sunshine State.

Ticks, ticks, ticks...😔😔😔 This campsite is so nice for a big group. Plenty of shade. A little trail to explore (super short walk but fun for the kids) Bathrooms and showers (with warm water) there is lights in the bathrooms and showers but not outlets. Not electricity in any other place. There is a pavilion with tables and a big grill(coal) also more tables around with little grills. You can bring a kayak or paddle board for the lake. (Body of water in FL so yeah you will spot Alligators. There are trash can that are bear proof so you may use them. Food should be storage at the cards never on the tent. Downside... TICKS ... lots of them. So come prepared with bug spray and long sleeve shirts and pants. And be sure to take a shower and look for ticks in your kids and family. It may be the time of the year or the locations but ... yeah be aware.
Feb 19, 2025 · F. SanzI've enjoyed every state park and also every clear spring I visited in florida so far have been breathtaking
Jan 23, 2025 · Francis McNeiceBeautiful place but few creature comforts. No electricity. No hot water in the sinks. Two showers with hot water. Nice shelter with 4 picnic tables. Pretty lake and room for dozens of tents.
Feb 03, 2024 · Gustavo Perez PovedaWE HAD MY YOUNGEST GRANDSON'S 5TH BIRTHDAY PARTY HERE!! WAS AWESOME TIME!!! THE PARK HOST WAS DRIVING AROUND, KEEPING A EYE ON EVERYTHING! I LIKED THAT!!🙏🏼🤟❤️🥰😍😇✌️
Jul 15, 2024 · Debbie PrattUPDATE: A little disappointing, this site has really gone down hill since the first review 6 years ago. The bathrooms are an absolute mess during the summer due to the FWC kid's summer camp abusing them. We also had issues with the homeless last time we went. Marion County SO is absolutely useless when it comes to trespassers, call FWC. The prices also doubled with no benefit to users of the site. Those of us that used it frequently kept it clean. Those who use it for free have destroyed this place. Also expect gate combo issues with no one to contact about the problem. Original Review: Lake Shore never disappointing. This is one of the very few group sites in Florida that has swimming, accommodates pets, and you don't share the restroom with anyone else. Camp hosts are always friendly (and vary from year to year.) The site gets reserved fairly quickly so plan well in advance. The smoker/grill/bbq on site is well built and we've smoked a LOT of meat in this thing. There are also standard park grills around the site. Plenty of lantern posts and a very large camp fire ring rounds out the site. Windixie is around 15 minutes away with roughly half an hour to Silver Springs if you needed anything that the local dollar stores (2) can't provide.
