Lewiston Shady Acres Campground About
For many Michiganders, the call of the wild and the promise of a peaceful escape lead them to the state's numerous campgrounds. Whether you're a seasoned RVer or a tent-camping enthusiast, finding the right spot to unwind is crucial. Lewiston Shady Acres Campground in Lewiston, Michigan, offers a distinct camping experience that combines affordability with a rustic charm and some key amenities, making it a noteworthy option for locals seeking a break from the everyday.
Lewiston Shady Acres Campground positions itself as a down-to-earth camping destination, emphasizing a no-frills approach to outdoor leisure. Located in the picturesque pine woodlands of Oscoda County, it aims to provide a serene atmosphere for families and friends throughout all four seasons. While some aspects, such as the entrance and office area, have been noted as "unkempt" by reviewers, the campground offers a functional and often enjoyable experience for those who prioritize value and a less commercialized environment.
The owner, Dennis, has been highlighted as "extremely friendly," suggesting a personal touch to the management that many campers appreciate. Despite some mixed reviews regarding upkeep and camper etiquette, particularly during busy holiday weekends, the campground's appeal lies in its long, shaded lots, which provide a comfortable setting for camping. It’s a place where campers can truly unplug, as the area is known for having "NO CELL SERVICE OR WI-FI 😟 but the whole area up there has very little service," encouraging a genuine digital detox. For those who enjoy "day trips" and are looking for a base that offers a "great price," Lewiston Shady Acres Campground often proves to be a suitable choice, with some visitors even stating they "will probably return."
Lewiston Shady Acres Campground is conveniently located at 4329 N Red Oak Rd, Lewiston, MI 49756, USA. This address places it within the tranquil surroundings of Lewiston, a community in Northern Michigan known for its lakes, forests, and outdoor recreational opportunities. Lewiston is a popular spot for those seeking a quieter getaway, away from the hustle and bustle of larger cities.
Access to the campground is generally straightforward, with N Red Oak Rd being a primary route. While the location itself is somewhat secluded, contributing to the "out of the way" feeling mentioned in some reviews, it is still easily reachable for Michigan residents looking for a peaceful retreat. The long, narrow lots are designed to accommodate various RV sizes, and the ample shade from the surrounding trees makes for a comfortable setting. Travelers should be prepared for the characteristic lack of cell service and Wi-Fi in the entire area, which, for many, is part of the appeal of truly disconnecting in Northern Michigan. The journey to Lewiston offers scenic drives through the state's beautiful landscapes, setting the tone for a relaxing camping trip.

Customer Reviews
Long narrow lots with shade. Entrance & office area are in a unkempt condition. Call ahead to make sure the pool and hot tub are working. Nice large clean Bathrooms. It did have a small playground area but the area & campgrounds were rundown. We did a lot of day trips and really only was around for the evening. So the price was great for this. It has 20/30 amp power. The owner Dennis was extremely friendly. It’s not the greatest but for what we needed we will probably return. NO CELL SERVICE OR WI-FI 😟 but the whole area up there has very little service.
Is there an Updated number for booking? I have stayed here before it was nice.
I have not camped a lot ad an adult but did camp a ton when a kid. My whole family camped here for a few days and this is the worst campground I every remember! It has a pretty cheap nightly rate, but be prepared to use your own bathroom in your camper. If you are unlucky like me and tent camp, you will be highly disappointed with their bathrooms. The woman's bathroom has the ceiling caving in and it was like that a year ago. So clearly they do not do much in the way of maintenance. We did not try the pool. The playground is a joke and pretty run down. The lady who manages it often loses information so make sure you keep your receipt to confirm you paid! I would not recommend staying here.
Don't believe the photos. The place is definitely run down and the photos have to be from years ago. No working pool, no working hot tub. No fire ring and the sites are very close. If your looking for a place to stay overnight with no kids, this place will do. For those with kids find somewhere else
Its a decent place to camp and worth the money. They even have an indoor pool. The only complaint would be the bathrooms. They're clean but there was only one lightbulb in the entire men's room so you'll need to bring your own lighting. Still, I'd stay again!
