Little Rock AFB Family Camp About

For Arkansans who serve or have served our nation, and their authorized families, the search for a perfect camping spot that combines convenience, value, and a peaceful environment often leads to a unique category of campgrounds: military famcamps. Little Rock AFB Family Camp stands out as a prime example, consistently lauded as a "hidden diamond" by those who have experienced its offerings. While access is restricted to those with military affiliation and base privileges, for eligible campers, it represents an outstanding opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Arkansas with the added benefits of a secure and well-maintained facility. This article will provide a detailed overview of what makes Little Rock AFB Family Camp an ideal choice for its community members in the Arkansas region.

Introduction / Overview

Little Rock AFB Family Camp, officially known as FamCamp, is a dedicated campground located on the Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas. It is operated under the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program, meaning it primarily serves active duty personnel, National Guard, Reservists, retired military, 0-100% DAV, Purple Heart Recipients, Former POWs, Veteran Caregivers, and DoD civilians. The campground is open year-round and offers a welcoming environment for RVs of all sizes, including big rigs, and also has provisions for overflow and tent camping. Many visitors describe it as a very quiet place, offering a serene escape that belies its proximity to a bustling Air Force base. Guests frequently praise the cleanliness of the sites and restrooms, the large, paved pads, and the ample grassy areas at each site, contributing to a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Location and Accessibility

Little Rock AFB Family Camp is located at 2947 3019 CMSgt Williams Dr, Little Rock AFB, AR 72099, USA. Its unique location on an active military installation means that access is restricted to authorized personnel and their sponsored guests. Visitors must have the ability to access the base, which typically involves showing valid military identification at the gate. Despite this controlled access, the campground is "perfectly located if traveling across Arkansas," offering convenience to major highways like I-40. Directions to the FamCamp are generally well-provided, though recent reviews indicate some potential construction on nearby freeways may temporarily affect specific exits. Once on base, the RV park is situated in a secluded area, ensuring a quiet experience. Its base location also grants easy access to various on-base facilities such as the commissary, Base Exchange (BX), fitness center, and other MWR amenities, providing a comprehensive and convenient experience for eligible campers.

Services Offered

  • Full Hook-up Sites: The campground offers 36 full hook-up sites, providing 30 and 50 AMP electric service, water, and sewer connections for maximum convenience. Some sites may have hook-ups on the opposite side, so an extra-long hose or electric extension might be useful.
  • Restrooms and Heated Showers: Clean and well-maintained restrooms and heated showers are available on-site, ensuring comfort for all campers. There's also a laundry room with washers and dryers available for a nominal fee.
  • No Reservations, First-Come, First-Served: The FamCamp operates on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning reservations are not accepted. However, a phone call can confirm the number of open spaces at the time of inquiry.
  • Pet-Friendly: Pets are allowed at the campground, with standard leash and clean-up rules in effect. The base also features large, fenced dog parks, which are a significant bonus for dog owners.
  • Self-Check-in and Payment: A self-check-in process is available at the campground, with registration forms and a drop-box for payments (cash/check/card, with some card restrictions) located in the laundry room.
  • Access to Base Amenities: Campers have access to numerous MWR facilities on Little Rock AFB, including the commissary, Base Exchange, library (with Wi-Fi), fitness center, gas station, shoppette, snack bar, and more.
  • Accessible Nature Trail and Playgrounds: The campground features an accessible nature trail and playgrounds, offering recreational opportunities within the park.

Features / Highlights

  • Great Value: At a reported $30 per night, the campground offers "great value," especially considering the amenities and location. Monthly rates ($450) are also available, making it an affordable option for longer stays.
  • Cleanliness: Visitors consistently praise the "clean sites and restrooms," indicating a high standard of maintenance.
  • Large, Paved Pads: Many sites feature "huge paved pads" with large grassy areas, providing ample space and a comfortable setup for RVs of all sizes. Some sites are pull-through, while others are back-in.
  • Very Quiet Place: The campground is frequently described as "very quiet," both at night and during the day, offering a peaceful and relaxing environment.
  • Close to the Lake and Walking Trails: Its proximity to a lake and nice walking trails provides excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation and leisurely strolls with pets.
  • Helpful Camp Host: Reviews highlight the presence of a "very nice camp host" who helps maintain cleanliness and assists campers.
  • Convenient Location for Travelers: Being "perfectly located if traveling across Arkansas" and offering "easy access to highway" makes it an ideal stop for those on extended journeys.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a military MWR facility, Little Rock AFB Family Camp's pricing structure is already designed to be a "great value" for its authorized users. While general "promotions" in the commercial sense are not typically advertised, the campground consistently offers competitive daily and monthly rates. For example, a reported rate of $30 per night and $450 per month represents significant savings compared to many civilian RV parks with similar amenities. It's always advisable for eligible personnel to inquire about the most current rates and any specific policies regarding extended stays when contacting the campground. Additionally, military benefits programs or certain MWR-related initiatives might occasionally offer special rates or packages, so checking with the Little Rock AFB Outdoor Recreation office would be the best way to uncover any such opportunities.

Hidden diamond, best camp we have stayed. Huge paved pads, large grassy area at each site. Close to the lake, nice walking trails. Very quiet place to stay. Would stay here again anytime! Our dogs loved the walking area.

Nice camping spots, but Outdoor Recreation told us that they can no longer afford to supply doggy poop bags. They also won't keep the pool open except on weekends. The pool is needed when the Temps approach 100°. The military people need a place to go to cool off, and the dependants and retirees do too. Don't close it just because the kids are back in school. Other people on base need it, too

Stayed here intermittently for about a year and it wasn’t bad, the camp host at the time was very friendly and helpful. Upon returning in July, the new camp host’s wife was very rude and inconsiderate with nothing but nagging from the time we met. She was seen lurking suspiciously around our neighbors camp site after dark when nobody was there. It’s a bit overpriced as there is no WiFi or anything to do, other than a playground and a couple small walking trails. They have a dog park, but it’s more for housing and not within close walking distance. The safety of being on base is a plus, but there are certainly other options close by with the same amenities if not more!

Would have appreciated a bathhouse/toilet as I was only staying a couple of nights on a long trip and didn’t want to hook everything up
