Mountain Lakes Resort About
For Alabama RV enthusiasts considering a getaway, understanding the full picture of a resort before you arrive is crucial for a successful trip. Mountain Lakes Resort, part of the Ocean Canyon Resorts network, located in Langston, Alabama, offers a unique experience that has garnered mixed feedback from its visitors. While some aspects of the resort have been highlighted positively, particularly the sales team and the potential for a "beautiful camper resort," other guests have expressed significant concerns about the current condition of the facilities and the overall value provided.
This article aims to provide a clear, factual, and balanced overview of Mountain Lakes Resort, drawing directly from recent customer reviews. Our goal is to help you, as a local Alabamian, make an informed decision about whether this RV resort aligns with your expectations for a relaxing and enjoyable outdoor adventure. We'll delve into the reported conditions of the RV sites, the availability and reliability of services like Wi-Fi, the state of amenities such as pools and playgrounds, and the overall impression of the property. While the resort is positioned as a destination for membership, understanding the current on-site experience is paramount.
It's important to approach your decision with awareness. Some visitors have noted that the resort could benefit from significant investment to enhance the guest experience. However, individual experiences can vary, and what might be a concern for one traveler might be less so for another, depending on their priorities and expectations for an RV resort. Let's explore the details of Mountain Lakes Resort to help you determine if it's the right fit for your next Alabama escape.
Mountain Lakes Resort is located at 1345 Murphy Hill Rd, Langston, AL 35755, USA. This address places it in a scenic part of Alabama, likely offering access to the natural beauty that the region is known for, including proximity to Lake Guntersville. Langston itself is a community that provides a quieter, more rural setting, which can be appealing for those seeking an escape from bustling city life.
Regarding accessibility, the resort’s location on Murphy Hill Road suggests a fairly direct route. However, visitor reviews indicate that the condition of the roads within the resort itself might be a concern. One reviewer explicitly mentioned "potholes riddled the roads," which could affect the ease of navigation for larger RVs or those with sensitive suspensions. While the main roads leading to the resort are likely well-maintained, internal road conditions are an important factor to consider for any RV park.
The geographic setting in Langston implies a certain level of seclusion, which can be a positive for those seeking tranquility. However, this also means that access to off-site amenities like major grocery stores, specific dining options, or emergency services might require a short drive. Potential visitors should factor this into their planning, ensuring they arrive with necessary supplies or are prepared for short excursions to nearby towns. Despite the internal road conditions noted by some, the overall location in Langston offers a gateway to the natural attractions of the area, providing a foundation for outdoor activities if the on-site conditions align with a visitor's expectations.
Based on customer reviews, the services offered at Mountain Lakes Resort present a mixed bag, with several areas indicating a need for improvement to meet guest expectations:
- RV Sites: The sites are described as "packed too closely together, poorly graded, and lacking proper drainage." Many sites consist of "grass, or in our case, mud," rather than gravel. Not all sites include a concrete pad for picnic tables, leading to "sitting in a pool of water with no dry space" in wet weather. The picnic tables themselves were noted as "worn and filthy."
- Wi-Fi Service: Guests reported that the Wi-Fi was "entirely inadequate" for remote work or streaming, despite pre-arrival confirmation attempts. Access codes were throttled to prevent such usage and frequently expired, requiring "multiple trips to the front desk for replacements."
- Customer Service: While individual staff members like the sales representative Spencer were praised, overall "customer service was lacking," with observations of staff "often outside smoking in a group rather than assisting guests."
- Amenities: The "indoor pool was shockingly unhygienic." The "beach" had "minimal sand." The playground equipment was "rusted" and "pretty dated and needs replacing due to age."
- Maintenance and Upkeep: Signs of "disrepair were everywhere," including a "deteriorating" entrance sign, "potholes riddled the roads," and "gravel was scarce." The buildings were described as "outdated."
- Membership Sales Pitches: Guests touring the resort may be presented with a sales pitch for an Ocean Canyon Resorts membership, with "considerable" funds required, but with no "obvious investment being made back into the property."
The features and highlights of Mountain Lakes Resort, as conveyed through recent customer reviews, offer a contrasting perspective, with some positive elements noted alongside significant areas needing improvement:
- Dedicated Sales Representative: A standout positive highlight mentioned by a reviewer was the sales representative, Spencer, who was described as "fantastic and the one bright spot in our experience." Another reviewer praised Bonny, who "gave us the tour and we had zero complaints. Very upfront about the expectations of the tour and gave us zero pressure about making the decision about the membership." This suggests that the sales team strives for transparency and a positive interaction during tours.
- Potential for a "Beautiful Camper Resort": One reviewer still referred to it as a "Beautiful camper resort," indicating that some guests may find the overall setting or certain aspects of the property aesthetically pleasing, despite the reported issues. This implies a foundational beauty in the location that could be enhanced with investment.
- Membership Sales Approach: While the membership sales aspect was a point of contention regarding property investment, the sales process itself was described as "very upfront about the expectations of the tour and gave us zero pressure about making the decision about the membership." This suggests a non-pushy approach from the sales team, which can be a positive for visitors who are simply curious about the membership options.
- Location in Langston, AL: The resort's address in Langston, AL, provides access to the natural beauty of the region, including proximity to Lake Guntersville. This inherent geographical feature remains a potential draw for those seeking an outdoor experience.
- RV Site Layout (Concerns): Conversely, a major highlight that is actually a negative point is the significant feedback regarding the RV sites. They are described as "packed too closely together, poorly graded, and lacking proper drainage." The prevalence of "grass, or in our case, mud" instead of gravel, and the lack of concrete pads for picnic tables, are critical points for prospective RVers.
- Condition of Amenities (Concerns): The "rusted" and "dated" playground equipment, "minimal sand" on the "beach," and particularly the "shockingly unhygienic" indoor pool, are significant concerns that impact the overall guest experience, especially for families.
- General State of Disrepair (Concerns): Signs of neglect such as a "deteriorating" entrance sign, "potholes riddled the roads," and general "disrepair everywhere" paint a picture of a property in serious need of investment and maintenance.
- Inadequate Wi-Fi (Concerns): The consistently inadequate and throttled Wi-Fi, coupled with expiring codes, is a critical issue for anyone needing connectivity for remote work or entertainment.
Based on the provided customer reviews, Mountain Lakes Resort, as an Ocean Canyon Resorts property, primarily offers "Promotions or Special Offers" in the form of a membership sales pitch. This is a recurring theme in the feedback, where guests are taken on a tour of "Canyon Ranch properties" and presented with an opportunity to invest in a membership.
It's important for potential visitors to understand that the "offer" here is not a discounted nightly rate or a package deal in the traditional sense, but rather an invitation to join a larger resort network through a considerable financial commitment. As one reviewer noted, "The funds required are considerable."
The perception of this "special offer" is heavily tied to the current condition of the resort. One guest expressed significant skepticism, stating, "given the resort's deteriorating condition, the idea of committing to a membership felt unrealistic. The funds required are considerable, yet there is no obvious investment being made back into the property." This suggests that the perceived value of the membership, as a "promotion," is directly impacted by the observed state of the facilities.
Therefore, for visitors to Mountain Lakes Resort, the main "promotion" you might encounter is the opportunity to learn about and potentially purchase an Ocean Canyon Resorts membership. While the sales representatives, such as Spencer and Bonny, were praised for their approach ("very upfront about the expectations of the tour and gave us zero pressure"), the value proposition of the membership itself is a point of contention due to the reported lack of investment in the property's upkeep. It is crucial for anyone considering this "offer" to conduct their own thorough evaluation of the resort's current condition against the long-term commitment of a membership.

For Alabama locals considering Mountain Lakes Resort, it’s important to weigh the various aspects to determine if it’s truly suitable for your needs. The resort’s location in Langston, AL, offers a natural setting that could be appealing for those looking to escape the immediate city bustle and enjoy the serene environment, potentially near Lake Guntersville. If your primary goal is simply to park your RV in a quiet area, and you are prepared for a rustic experience, this location might offer that basic appeal.
However, based on significant recent customer feedback, the resort’s suitability for many Alabamians may be limited. For families, the reported condition of the playground equipment ("rusted" and "dated") and the indoor pool ("shockingly unhygienic") are significant concerns that detract from a truly family-friendly experience. Those relying on Wi-Fi for remote work or entertainment will find the service "entirely inadequate," making it unsuitable for such needs. RVers seeking well-maintained sites with proper drainage, gravel, and concrete pads may find the current conditions of the "poorly graded" and "muddy" sites disappointing.
In conclusion, while the sales team may offer a pleasant experience and the idea of a "beautiful camper resort" holds potential, the current state of the property, as widely reported by recent visitors, indicates that significant investment and improvements are needed. For Alabamians who prioritize modern amenities, reliable services, and well-maintained facilities, it appears Mountain Lakes Resort might not currently meet those expectations without substantial upgrades. Therefore, careful consideration and perhaps a direct inquiry about recent renovations are advisable before committing to a stay.
Customer Reviews
Disappointing Experience at Ocean Canyon Resorts – Mountain Lakes RV Resort Our recent stay at Mountain Lakes RV Resort in Langston, Alabama, was far from the relaxing getaway we had hoped for. The RV sites are packed too closely together, poorly graded, and lacking proper drainage, making for an uncomfortable experience—especially in wet weather. Instead of gravel, most sites consist of grass, or in our case, mud. Not all sites had a concrete pad for the picnic table, and we spent the entire weekend sitting in a pool of water with no dry space before entering our RV. The picnic tables were worn and filthy, adding to the overall neglect of the property. Before arriving, we called the resort to confirm if the WiFi would be sufficient for remote work, only to find upon arrival that it was entirely inadequate. Upon check-in, we received tickets with access codes that explicitly stated the service was throttled, preventing streaming or remote work. To make matters worse, the codes frequently expired, requiring multiple trips to the front desk for replacements. Customer service was lacking, as staff members were often outside smoking in a group rather than assisting guests. Signs of disrepair were everywhere. The entrance sign was deteriorating, playground equipment was rusted, potholes riddled the roads, and gravel was scarce. The "beach" had minimal sand, and the indoor pool was shockingly unhygienic. The buildings themselves felt outdated, reinforcing the overall impression that the property is in serious need of investment. We also took a tour of the Canyon Ranch properties, where we were presented with a sales pitch for a membership. However, given the resort's deteriorating condition, the idea of committing to a membership felt unrealistic. The funds required are considerable, yet there is no obvious investment being made back into the property. That said, our sales representative, Spencer, was fantastic and the one bright spot in our experience. Overall, Mountain Lakes RV Resort desperately needs improvements to be a worthwhile destination. If Ocean Canyon Resorts expects guests to invest in memberships, they must first invest in their properties. Until then, I cannot recommend this resort.
Beautiful camper resort. Bonny gave us the tour and we had zero complaints. Very upfront about the expectations of the tour and gave us zero pressure about making the decision about the membership. The only complaint I have is the kids playground is pretty dated and needs replacing due to age. Otherwise, it was a fantastic visit.
The lake is beautiful. The amenities are nice and the staff are great people! This is a members only resort and had to attend a 90 min presentation/ tour of the camp site. The presentation started off good. Sales guy was very informative. He said at the beginning “i get it if you have to take a day or a few to think about it, pray about it when it comes to something like this and if you dont want this we will shake hands and part ways as friends”. After the tour, we sat down at the table I told him “not today” and we would have to think about it. Then he said “well i’ll get up to give you guys some space to think on it”. what happened to if we “need to think about it for a few days or pray about it”? All of a sudden it was push push push. I gave him a firm “not today”. He got up and said “let me go make sure there is nothing i left out”. His manager comes out. Manager guy did some math at the table, cut the price in half (cutting out half the perks of course) and asked if it was something i could do today. I said “ I need to focus on getting a bigger truck for my camper so not today” and the manager says “so what you just not going to do any camping” in a agitated tone. I responded with “Not today”. He knew his question pissed me off. The way I manage my money and family time is none of his business. I really wanted to consider getting it because it really did sound like a good plan on paper but im not going to sign up for a membership costing as much as a car without taking some time to talk it out with my wife and look at our finances. After seeing their tone and demeanor change after i said no, i had my definite answer that this was not for us before we exited the building. Typical salesman garbage.
Absolutely beautiful we got lot 50 close to the cleanest bathhouse I've ever been in the water is beautiful its spotless everything is security rides thru takes good care of every one and the restaurant at the top of the park is freaking awesome. Hands down best place we'll be back.
Absolutely beautiful. We love this place. It is our home away from home. Beautiful scenery and amenities. They truly do have something for everyone
