Bradford, PA 16701, USA
For Pennsylvanians who seek a truly immersive, back-to-nature experience, Pine Grove Campground offers an escape that few other sites can match. Located deep within the wilderness near Bradford, PA, this campground is not a destination for glamping or modern amenities; rather, it is a haven for the dedicated woodsman, the skilled hiker, and the patient boater. It is crucial for local users to understand that this is a rustic, **boat-in or hike-in only** site, demanding a higher level of preparedness and a genuine love for undeveloped wilderness.
Local sentiment regarding Pine Grove Campground highlights its extreme simplicity and its unique historical context. One visitor, who explored multiple sites on the lake, noted that this was the **"least developed"** area they encountered, stating that there were **"nearly no level places to put up a tent."** This emphasizes that campers must be ready for primitive conditions and a challenging setup. Additionally, a recurring issue in the reviews points to maintenance challenges: some outer sites were described as **"missing picnic tables, or fire rings, or both, some completely overgrown,"** suggesting that the campground operates on a bare-minimum maintenance schedule typical of remote, first-come, first-served National Forest sites.
However, the same rustic setting provides an unparalleled historical attraction: the presence of **"nearly intact, early 20th century oil field pumping station and miscellaneous related equipment strewn throughout the woods."** This feature offers a fascinating, unexpected glimpse into the history of the world's first billion-dollar oil field—the Bradford Oil Field—turning a simple camping trip into a historical exploration. While one reviewer praised a nearby area for its **"Clean outhouses, fresh water pump,"** the specific campground is noted to have a major functional constraint: **"NO FRESH WATER AT CAMPGROUND! The well is capped off,"** meaning potable water must be carried in or filtered from the lake. Pine Grove Campground is a demanding but rewarding choice for the true Pennsylvania outdoors enthusiast.

NO FRESH WATER AT CAMPGROUND! The well is capped off. Of the four out of the five boat/hike in campgrounds that I camped at on the lake, this one was the least developed, which nearly no level places to put up a tent. The few that were, one was already occupied by a very loud party. I stayed at the far other end to get away from the noise, but, and there is a running theme here with all these campgrounds, the nearer to the outer limits of the campground, the less maintained sites are, missing picnic tables, or fire rings, or both, some completely overgrown. A consolation prize, was the nearly intact, early 20th century oil field pumping station and miscellaneous related equipment strewn throughout the woods.

May 11, 2019 · Jacob PoucherWARNING: THE CAMP IS A FULL MILE HIKE FROM THE CLOSEST PLACE TO LEAVE YOUR CAR. I just wanted to make a disclaimer before others go camping at Pine Grove. The website claims it is 1/3 of a mile hike which it is not. It is a full mile scaling up/down the steep mountain. This campsite was absolutely gorgeous with great scenic views, awesome spacing between sites, and overall just a full nature bath. The reason for the disclaimer is because we were expecting the campsite to be way closer to where you can park your car. Unfortunately we got there early afternoon and struggled to setup our campsite before dark due to the long and vigorous hike to get up and down the mountain. But it was worth it!!
Oct 06, 2020 · Jarrod SzukicsEvery 4th of July we have a family reunion here and can't stay long enough. Sometimes the pit latreens are a little rushed by visitors around this time so it's recommended to bring back up TP ;) but the views are remarkable and it's right around the bend from Docksiders Restaurant/wolf run boat launch.
