Introduction / Overview
Pinehirst Campground, officially known as Pinehirst RV Resort & Campground, is a well-established and large-scale destination for both short-term vacationers and seasonal campers in the heart of Southern Maine's coastal region. Situated on 60 beautifully wooded acres in Old Orchard Beach (OOB), this resort has been a popular family tradition for over 20 years. Operating seasonally from approximately May 1st to October 31st, Pinehirst offers a complete camping experience, blending a tranquil, forested setting with an extensive array of on-site amenities.
With over 500 sites, the community is dominated by seasonal or annual campers, which creates a strong sense of community and neighborhood within the park. However, it also maintains a selection of full or partial hookup sites for transient RV travelers, making it a convenient stop for those exploring the Maine coast. As a Thousand Trails affiliated park, it is managed professionally and is committed to providing a fun, feature-rich environment, though it's important for guests to be aware that the high volume of visitors and seasonal residents means that park rules and maintenance are ongoing priorities that sometimes require management attention.
Location and Accessibility
The prime location of Pinehirst Campground at
7 Oregon Ave, Old Orchard Beach, ME 04064, USA
, is one of its biggest draws for both local Mainers and visitors from out of state. Though nestled in the woods, it maintains exceptional accessibility to the region’s top attractions.
Critically, the resort is located approximately just two miles from the famous seven-mile-long sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, the Old Orchard Beach Pier, and Palace Playland amusement park. This means daily beach visits, evening pier strolls, and fireworks on summer Thursdays are easily attainable activities. A major convenience often highlighted by guests is the quick trolley ride from the park directly to downtown OOB, eliminating the hassle of finding beach parking. Beyond the immediate beach town, Pinehirst offers easy access to Maine’s largest city. Downtown Portland, with its world-class eateries, cultural attractions, live music venues, the historic Old Port, and Thompson Point, is only about a 15-minute drive away. Furthermore, essential Southern Maine destinations like the Maine Mall in South Portland and the charming coastal towns of Kennebunkport and Cape Elizabeth (home to the stunning Portland Head Light) are all within a short, scenic drive. This blend of secluded camping and urban/coastal proximity makes Pinehirst an ideal home base for exploring all that Southern Maine has to offer.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Pinehirst Campground is a particularly excellent option for Mainers seeking a consistent, activity-filled summer getaway without the cost or commitment of owning a second home. For locals who love the quintessential Maine beach experience, the resort serves as a perfect annual base. The predominance of seasonal sites allows Maine residents to effectively secure their own "summer home" at a significantly reduced rate compared to traditional vacation properties, offering a guaranteed spot for the entire season.
The resort's suitability is rooted in its unbeatable combination of recreational amenities and geographic convenience. Families enjoy the three pools, playgrounds, and organized activities, ensuring children stay entertained throughout the summer. Furthermore, the quick, trolley-accessible proximity to the fun of Old Orchard Beach and the cultural experiences of Portland means residents spend less time driving and more time enjoying their valuable summer weekends. Despite the occasional maintenance or management issues that can arise in any large park, Pinehirst's strong seasonal community, full-service hookups, and prime location make it a beloved and highly practical choice for Mainers looking to maximize their enjoyment of the Southern Maine summer.

We so enjoyed our stay here. Staff was super friendly and helpful, as well as all the other guests + neighbors we met. Laundry room is updated + clean - can pay + track time on an app. Location is close to old orchard beach with tons of things to do day or night + fireworks on summer Thursdays. Or a quick drive to Portland Maine, Thompson Point, Lighthouses - amazing eateries, great live music, shopping, and more!

Campers come in at dark and no person to show them how to get into there lot .the worst place I have camped at in years.
Aug 17, 2025 · James ReillyPinehurst Campground is an absolute gem! From the moment we pulled in, we felt welcomed and at ease. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, always making sure guests are comfortable and enjoying their stay. The sites are spacious, well-maintained, and surrounded by beautiful trees, giving just the right mix of nature and privacy. The campground is very family- and RV-friendly, with clean restrooms, hot showers, and great amenities. We loved the peaceful atmosphere, but it’s also close enough to Old Orchard Beach and local attractions if you want to explore. It’s the perfect balance of relaxation and convenience. If you’re a Thousand Trails member or just looking for a spot to camp in Maine, Pinehurst is definitely a must-visit. We can’t wait to come back! The campground has a beautiful staff that really cares about everyone’s happiness and comfort and safety. They have a great new manager while he was so attentive and kind just really kind. I’m very grateful for everyone at Pinehurst campground and their vibe that makes you want to return your after year? I was in Portland sailing and just started my encore membership and Thousand Trails membership with my trailer being on the other side of the country but everyone made me feel welcome as I search for something over here or to travel with my van, but everyone was really happy at the grounds and they provided lots of activities like pool parties, music, and bingo. The grounds again were very maintained really well and everything was in a short distance around the park to meet all of your needs, including buying lobster at the corner.
Aug 30, 2025 · Chelsie NolandGreat location, three pools and a hot tub, only a half a mile from the beach in the trolley will pick you up in the campground and bring you there so you don’t even have to pay to park. Very clean and nice people. Super dog, friendly!
May 31, 2025 · Julie AndersonWould not recommend this campground. Sites are dirty, old, and need a ton of maintenance. The pavement and speed bumps are a nightmare; cracked and pot holes throughout. When we got to our site, it had not been prepped or cleaned after the previous people had left. We had booked the site a month beforehand with plenty of time for the site to be cleaned and when we showed up management simply said “we would have had it ready had we known you were coming today”. Keep in mind we booked a seasonal spot and came weeks AFTER they opened to park our camper. When we got to our site, the spot where a camper used to be was all dirt, weeds were growing out from the few spots gravel was remaining, and we were finding huge decking screws for months all around our site. After the first rainfall when we got there, our site was completely flooded. We couldn’t step out of our camper without our feet being completely submerged in water. We made management aware and the campground refused to add stones / assist with flooding because it was our responsibility now that it was “our site”. The campground stated more stones were not in their budget and we would have to pay for the stone out of pocket. We came in contact with a few of the front desk staff who were very rude as well. ** also do not believe any of the amenities listed in the website. There is always a pool that has closed / being fixed and the gym is closed and we were told they have no current plans of having it re-open! Anywhere else in OOB is better than this place
