Promotions or Special Offers

As a rustic campground likely managed under state or federal wilderness regulations, Porcupine Campground 2 typically does not offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private campground might. Its value is inherent in the unique wilderness experience it provides. Access is usually granted through standard permit or fee systems associated with the managing authority (e.g., U.S. Forest Service or Michigan DNR, depending on its specific designation within the Watersmeet area). For Michigan residents, the most significant "offer" is the unparalleled access to a truly pristine natural area at a very reasonable cost, often requiring just basic camping fees or a wilderness permit. Any equipment rentals (canoes, kayaks, etc.) would be sourced from independent outfitters in nearby towns, not directly from the campground.

It's crucial for prospective campers to check the official websites of the Ottawa National Forest or the Michigan DNR for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding fees, reservation procedures (if applicable for specific sites), and any necessary permits for backcountry travel or camping in designated wilderness areas.

Contact Information

For a rustic campground like Porcupine Campground 2, direct contact information for the campground itself might be limited or nonexistent, as it's typically managed by a larger federal or state agency. Given its location in Watersmeet, MI, and its association with the Sylvania Wilderness Area, the primary point of contact would be the U.S. Forest Service office responsible for that district of the Ottawa National Forest.

Address: Watersmeet, MI 49969, USA (General area of the campground)

Ottawa National Forest - Watersmeet Ranger District:

It is highly recommended to call ahead or visit the official Ottawa National Forest website (specifically for the Sylvania Wilderness Area) to confirm current conditions, access requirements, reservation policies, and any advisories regarding things like insect levels or fire restrictions. Given the rustic nature, planning ahead is essential.

Porcupine 2 has plenty of space for tents and/or hammocks. It was stunning and we are going back to Sylvania next year. The mosquitoes were insane the first part of July, deet 100 would keep them 1/8 of an inch away and after a few minutes there was breakthrough biting. Treating your clothing and gear before in case you hit peak mosquitoes like we did may be a good idea, I will not be making that mistake again. You can both canoe/kayak or hike in. If you hike in over half your hike half would be on the road.
