For Pennsylvania residents seeking a prime blend of accessible modern amenities and genuine natural splendor, the Promised Land State Park Beechwood Camping Area offers one of the best camping experiences in the Poconos. Nestled on the Pocono Plateau, 1,800 feet above sea level, this destination within the renowned Promised Land State Park provides a refreshing escape from the hustle of city life. It is the perfect opportunity for locals from Allentown, Scranton, Philadelphia, and beyond to reconnect with the Commonwealth's breathtaking natural heritage.
The Beechwood Camping Area is the largest and arguably most modern section of the park’s overall Lower Lake Campground. Its development caters primarily to larger camping units, such as Recreational Vehicles (RVs) and trailers, though it remains fully welcoming to traditional tent campers. With 106 campsites, Beechwood is designed for comfort and convenience, offering essential services that enhance a stay in the woods without sacrificing the natural environment. The entire area is shaded by the park’s characteristic forest—a beautiful mix of beech, oak, maple, and hemlock trees—providing a cool, wooded setting that many campers desire.
Visitors frequently praise the well-maintained nature of the Beechwood area. Sites are generally spacious and offer a degree of privacy, with some located along the outer wooded edge and others within interior loops. One of the distinguishing features of Beechwood, highlighted by real customer feedback, is the quality of its washroom facilities. Campers consistently note that the bathrooms, which include warm showers, are kept impeccably clean and are checked daily. This focus on guest comfort is a cornerstone of the Promised Land experience.
While the campground provides a tranquil base, it is an active gateway to all the recreation Promised Land State Park offers. It sits near the shores of Lower Lake, providing a beautiful backdrop and easy, though not immediate, access to the lake for fishing and non-motorized boating. For those who prioritize modern amenities alongside a serene woodland setting, the Beechwood Camping Area remains a top choice for a family-friendly Pennsylvania camping trip. The main camping season for Beechwood generally runs from early April through mid-October, with modern facilities operational from Memorial Day through Columbus Day.
### Location and Accessibility
The Beechwood Camping Area is specifically located on the western side of Lower Lake, within the expansive 3,000-acre Promised Land State Park in Pike County, Pennsylvania. This location makes it an ideal wilderness destination that is surprisingly accessible for travelers across the state and the mid-Atlantic region.
The park is situated off Pennsylvania Route 390 and benefits from excellent proximity to two major interstate arteries: I-80 and I-84. This ease of access translates into a simple drive for locals: typically under two hours from the greater Scranton and Wilkes-Barre areas, and a manageable two-to-three-hour trip from population centers like Harrisburg, Bethlehem, and Philadelphia. For navigation, the official address for the park and its main campground area is used.
While the campground itself is nestled in a secluded, peaceful setting, it is part of a larger, well-serviced state park complex. It is essential to note that while the lake is nearby, direct swimming is at the designated beaches at the Day Use Area or Pickerel Point Campground, which are a short drive away, allowing the immediate campground area to maintain a quiet, wooded atmosphere.

The Beechwood section is basically for RV camping, but tents are allowed. Sites have electricity but water is only available from pumps located in each section. Of about 100 sites half permit dogs. Bathrooms have warm showers and are cleaned each morning.
Sep 01, 2025 · Charles JQuiet camping the end of August in Beechwood campground. Amenities are within driving distance. Beach and swimming is crowded as it is a public day use area. Lake was not accessible from our location except for fishing. Hiking is a lot of tree roots and rocks. Bathrooms are an A+
Aug 27, 2024 · RetirementIt's a really nice park. The grounds are kept, and the lot spaces are, for the most part, all good with modern electricity hookups. While each site does not have its own water hookup, there are a few taps that can be accessed by the majority of the sites. There is lots to do nearby with the large lake, dam, a beach for swimming, kayaking, hiking, and more. The only slight negative is that the bathroom facilities are showing their age a bit. But they are still quite servisable. Cell service is spotty at best, and there is no WIFI
Jul 26, 2023 · Joshua QuinnHad a pleasant stay. Staff was great and friendly and answered any questions in a nice manner. One child or childish person did make a mess in the mens bathroom. It would get cleaned up and he would go back in and do it again. Staff did try thier best to be on top of it though. Too bad they couldn't find out who it was. Other than that everything else was great!
