Introduction / Overview: Your Lakeside Seasonal Escape at Province Shore Campground
Province Shore Campground, now operated by Modern America Campgrounds, offers a unique and appealing option for New Hampshire locals seeking a dedicated seasonal retreat in the heart of the Lakes Region. Located in the charming town of Effingham, this 90-site all-ages campground is nestled directly on the shores of the expansive, 1,000+ acre Province Lake, which spans the New Hampshire-Maine border. It is designed to cater mainly to seasonal campers, allowing residents to establish a summer basecamp from approximately May 15th to Columbus Day, eliminating the need to haul their RV or trailer in and out for every weekend trip.
The campground’s primary draw is its exceptional waterfront access. With 400 feet of private sandy beach and dedicated facilities for boaters, it is perfectly suited for water enthusiasts who appreciate being steps away from swimming, fishing, and paddling. While one customer review highlights the enthusiasm of the community and the lovely lake beach, it also raises points about the atmosphere—mentioning that the park is “controlled by a small portion of campers” and that noise levels, especially with parties continuing "well into the morning hours," can be a concern for some. This suggests a vibrant, sometimes lively atmosphere that may be ideal for those who prefer an active, social setting, but less so for those strictly seeking quiet solitude. The core appeal, however, remains the unmatched lake access and the convenience of seasonal residency.
Location and Accessibility: Remote Charm with Water Access
Province Shore Campground is located at 36 Remick Rd, Effingham, NH 03882, USA. Effingham is a quiet town in Carroll County, placing the campground within easy reach of the White Mountains and other Lakes Region attractions, yet far enough away to retain a secluded, natural charm. The campground's location on Province Lake is a significant asset, as the lake is known for its size, warm waters, and recreational opportunities. It partially abuts the Province Lake Golf Course, offering convenient access for local golf enthusiasts.
The accessibility of the site, however, is a factor locals should consider. One review specifically noted that the "dirt roads being rough on my car" and the lack of "dependable cell phone reception" were the only reasons they chose another location for their seasonal reservation. For local users, this suggests that while the location is physically beautiful and offers fantastic lake access, it is a truly remote destination. Visitors should expect unpaved access roads and be prepared for potential connectivity issues, embracing the opportunity to truly unplug in the New Hampshire wilderness.

Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals
Province Shore Campground is an excellent fit for New Hampshire locals who value a deep connection to a major lake and desire a hassle-free seasonal camping lifestyle. For residents in the southern or central parts of the state, it represents a dedicated vacation hub where their trailer can remain set up all summer. The convenience of a 90-unit, full-time seasonal park on a large lake—with a private beach and marina—is a rare and valuable asset in the Lakes Region.
The unique blend of remote location and robust amenities appeals to those who want to disconnect from constant city life and reliable cellular service in favor of lake-centric recreation. While the lively social atmosphere and lack of on-site oversight mentioned in customer reviews may not suit every local camper, it strongly appeals to those who enjoy a boisterous, communal, and self-managed environment. It offers the perfect setup for a local family or couple to spend the entire summer boating, swimming, and exploring the backcountry around Effingham and the White Mountains without the high cost and maintenance of owning a permanent lakeside cottage. Province Shore offers not just a campsite, but a seasonal summer life on the water.

Great location, some great campers. Modern America doesn't care about the campers here. The parties continue well into the morning hours and there's no one around to stop it. It's hard to hear the tv in your camper for all the noise if your windows are open. The beach and roads are scattered with people's personal belongings. The campground is controlled by a small portion of campers that make sure things are run to satisfy themselves.
Aug 02, 2025 · jim ThompsonWe met Rachael yesterday and it was a hard choice between which two seasonal camping areas we wanted to reserve. The ONLY reason we did not chose Province is due to the location. The location would be perfect for a short stay over the weekend but without dependable cell phone reception and the dirt roads being rough on my car, ARE THE ONLY reasons why we chose the other location. We LOVED the lake beach, the staff, and the openness of moving our camping in and out of any of the available spots. If we were retired we would have chosen this location but we still have too many years before we can do that.
May 15, 2024 · Victoria PerezI'm was on the fence at first.... But no response from manegment and the campground needing some investment and concern from ownership leave me nothing but sceptical. There are some decent campers with well mannered children here and some with attitudes and rude children. Hope that was just opening week 🙏....... After 30+ days waiting for a response for a boat slip I'm giving up. We've emailed 3 times with a response saying there was one, we requested the invoice so we could pay as we did with our site and have received no response. There appears to be no functional manegment and it would appear the owners are not very concerned with this location. I really wanted to like this place, but a lack of caring and concern make it nearly impossible
Jul 06, 2024 · Lance ThebodeauWe are on our 8th season here. We love it. It’s a small campground and we know everyone here. The campers all help each other and we are like family. We have a great beach too!
Sep 20, 2024 · Chris GiffordThere's a reason why this campground on the lake doesn't have a waiting list anymore. The new owners raised the rates and demolished the camp office and rec hall. There are no security gates and few activities so it's more like a trailer park than a campground. Great seasonal campers still there though.
