Skipout Campground appears to be a rustic yet appealing spot, especially for those who appreciate natural vistas and a more secluded outdoor experience. Location and Accessibility

Skipout Campground is situated in Reydon, OK 73660, USA. This address places it within Roger Mills County in the western part of Oklahoma, a region characterized by its wide-open spaces, agricultural lands, and a generally sparse population. The campground’s location near Reydon suggests it is in a more rural and secluded setting, appealing to those who seek a quieter and more isolated camping experience.

Accessibility to Skipout Campground would typically involve traveling via state highways and then likely transitioning to county or local roads. While the exact condition of the roads leading directly into the campground isn't specified beyond "Reydon, OK," visitors should generally expect varying road surfaces in such rural areas. It's always advisable to check local road conditions, especially after heavy rain, as unpaved or less-maintained roads can become challenging. However, the presence of "accessible campsites" suggests that the main camping areas are designed to be reached by standard vehicles.

Due to its rural location, immediate access to extensive amenities like large grocery stores or diverse dining options will be limited. Campers should plan to bring all necessary supplies with them. However, smaller, local services for basic needs like fuel or emergency items might be available in Reydon or nearby small towns. The journey to Skipout Campground itself is part of the experience, leading you into a peaceful and expansive natural environment that truly feels like an escape from urban hustle. This remoteness is a significant part of its charm for those seeking genuine tranquility and unspoiled natural views.

  • Potable Water Spout: Access to a "potable water spout" is a significant convenience, providing a source of drinkable water, which is often a key consideration for primitive or rustic campgrounds.
  • Restrooms (Outhouse Style): While acknowledged as "outhouse style restrooms" that can "STINK," the provision of any restroom facility is a basic service that supports longer stays. Campers should manage expectations regarding this amenity.
  • Fishing Access: Fishing is highlighted as a primary activity, indicating that the campground provides direct or easy access to a water body suitable for fishing. This is a core offering for anglers.
  • Trails: The mention of "some trails" suggests that there are pathways available for light hiking or exploring the immediate natural surroundings of the campground.

Given its natural setting and the review comments, campers should be prepared for a more self-sufficient experience, bringing all personal necessities and being mindful of the natural environment, especially regarding elements like wind and sand.

Promotions or Special Offers

Publicly available information does not specify any commercial promotions or special offers for Skipout Campground. As a campground that appears to be publicly accessible, and based on the nature of the reviews suggesting a more rustic, less commercialized setting (e.g., "outhouse style restrooms"), it is likely that Skipout Campground operates with minimal or no fees.

The "special offer" of Skipout Campground would primarily be its inherent value:

  • Affordable/Free Camping: Many such public-access campgrounds, especially those in more remote areas, offer free or very low-cost camping. This is a significant benefit for budget-conscious outdoor enthusiasts.
  • Access to Nature: The greatest promotion is the opportunity to experience beautiful natural landscapes, excellent fishing, and stunning sunsets without the expense associated with private, amenity-rich campgrounds.
  • Self-Sufficiency Focus: The nature of the campground encourages self-sufficiency, which can be seen as a cost-saving measure as campers bring their own supplies and equipment rather than relying on on-site services.

To confirm any potential fees, reservation requirements (though likely none given the style), or specific regulations, it is always recommended to check with the relevant local or state land management agencies (e.g., Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, or potentially the U.S. Forest Service if it's part of a national grassland area that allows direct public access without formal booking) that might oversee this area. The most up-to-date information regarding its status and any potential charges would be found through official government recreation resources.

Contact Information

For inquiries about Skipout Campground, including its current status, specific regulations, or any conditions (such as wind advisories or potential fire bans), it is best to consult the local land management authorities. Given its rural address and the nature of the campground as described in reviews, it may fall under the purview of a state agency or a local park authority.

The provided address is:

Since direct phone numbers for individual, less-developed campgrounds are often not widely publicized, the best approach would be to contact the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, or potentially a local county office responsible for parks and recreation in Roger Mills County. Searching their official websites for "Skipout Campground" or "Reydon camping" would likely yield the most accurate contact information or relevant details. They would be able to provide the most current information regarding access, facilities, and any advisories for visitors.

Cool looking spot. Seems set up just right. Only problems we have with it is the outhouse style restrooms STINK. lol Seriously tho, the only thing wrong with this place is the wind and all the sand the gets into, literally, everything. Trust me, you can't stop it. Wind kept my tent flat most of the time. My sleeping bag and air mattress had sand in it, on it, and under it. I had sand in a dry bag that I never opened while there. How can water not get in, but sand can? Bewildering. Not much to do in this campground other than fish.

This is one of the nicest free campsites I've been to so far. There is a pair of geese with 7 goslings, and a skinny turkey that visits. I even find some wild spinach and lots of dandelion greens for lunch. My dogs have found a couple of stickers leftover from last year but this years crop are not mature yet. The grass was recently mowed and the privies are clean. There are several nicely shaded areas after the noon sun. The locals come through during the week. Some for fishing, some for a swim. There have been a couple other long term campers, and a few come and go over the weekend. I've been here for a little over a week and plan on taking advantage of the full 14 days.

Really nice lake. No amenities except a centralized water spigot. Pit toilets.
