We'll delve into its location and accessibility, the services it aims to provide, its features and highlights, and ultimately, why it might be suitable for certain types of travelers looking to enjoy the Tawas region.
Location and Accessibility
Tawas River RV Park is conveniently located at 560 M-55, Tawas City, MI 48763, USA. This address places it directly on M-55, a significant east-west highway that runs through Michigan's Lower Peninsula, connecting to larger thoroughfares like US-23. This prime location in Tawas City, Iosco County, makes it highly accessible for Michiganders traveling from various parts of the state, including those from Saginaw, Flint, or even the Metro Detroit area.
Tawas City itself is a popular tourist destination nestled along the shores of Tawas Bay on Lake Huron. The RV park's location on M-55 means easy entry and exit for large RVs, reducing the hassle of navigating smaller, congested roads. Its proximity to Lake Huron is a major advantage, allowing quick access to public beaches, fishing charters, boating opportunities, and the iconic Tawas Point Lighthouse.
Within a short drive from the RV park, visitors will find a variety of essential services and attractions in Tawas City and the neighboring East Tawas. These include grocery stores for stocking up on supplies, gas stations, local restaurants, souvenir shops, and the Tawas City Pier. For outdoor enthusiasts, the vast Au Sable State Forest is also easily accessible, offering hiking, biking, hunting, and wildlife viewing opportunities. The Tawas River, for which the park is named, flows nearby, potentially offering additional recreational benefits. The ease of access to both urban conveniences and natural attractions makes the park's location a significant draw for Michiganders looking for a well-rounded vacation.
Services Offered
Tawas River RV Park aims to provide a range of services typically expected at an RV park, though some reviews suggest inconsistencies. Based on general expectations and available information, here's what guests might anticipate:
- Full Hookup RV Sites: The park is designed to accommodate RVs, implying sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups for maximum convenience. This is a standard offering in RV parks, allowing campers to utilize their onboard facilities.
- Online Payment System (Roverpass): The park uses an online booking and payment system, Roverpass, which streamlines the reservation process. Guests are expected to pay through this platform.
- Bathhouse/Restroom Facilities: A bathhouse with restrooms and showers is indicated to be on-site. However, recent reviews highlight significant plumbing issues leading to clogged drains and unusable facilities. Prospective guests should be prepared for this possibility, potentially relying on their RV's own shower and toilet.
- Water Service: Water hookups are provided at the sites. It's noted that water service is turned off in November, likely for winterization, which may not be explicitly communicated. Guests planning late-season stays should verify water availability.
- Management Availability: According to one review, management communication can be challenging, with noted office hours only on Tuesdays and Thursdays and potential issues with returning phone calls. This suggests that communication might require persistence from guests.
- Mowing Services: A review mentioned that the park is responsible for mowing the common areas and the individual lots where trailers are rented, indicating a level of ground maintenance is expected.
Features / Highlights
Tawas River RV Park, despite some operational concerns noted in reviews, has several features and highlights that could be attractive to Michiganders planning an RV trip to the Tawas area.
- Prime Tawas City Location: The park's most significant highlight is its strategic location on M-55 in Tawas City. This offers extremely convenient access to Lake Huron, Tawas Bay, public beaches, the Tawas Point Lighthouse, and the charming downtown areas of Tawas City and East Tawas. This means less travel time and more time enjoying the destination.
- RV-Focused Accommodations: The park is designed specifically for RVs, providing dedicated sites presumably with full hookups (water, electric, sewer) for a comfortable stay. This caters directly to the needs of RV travelers.
- Accessibility to Area Attractions: Guests have easy access to a wide array of activities, including fishing, boating, swimming in Lake Huron, exploring local shops and restaurants, and visiting nearby state forests for hiking and outdoor recreation.
- Online Booking System (Roverpass): The use of Roverpass offers a modern and convenient way to book and pay for sites, allowing campers to secure their spot in advance.
- Summer Destination: The park is primarily suitable for summer stays when the Tawas area is at its peak for tourism and outdoor activities, and when water services are fully operational. Its location is ideal for enjoying warm-weather recreation.
- Potential for Community: Like many RV parks, it offers the potential for community interaction among fellow RVers, though the level of organized activities is not specified.
Promotions or Special Offers
Based on the provided information, Tawas River RV Park does not explicitly advertise specific promotions or special offers in the same way some larger, more amenity-rich RV resorts might. Their pricing and booking seem to be handled through the Roverpass website, which typically offers standard daily, weekly, or monthly rates.
However, the "promotional" aspect of Tawas River RV Park for Michiganders largely revolves around its direct value proposition:
- Competitive Pricing (Potential): While specific rates aren't provided, RV parks that offer full hookups in desirable Michigan locations often present a more affordable lodging option compared to hotels or short-term rentals, especially for extended stays.
- Location as a Key Benefit: The prime location in Tawas City, with easy access to Lake Huron and local attractions, acts as a continuous "offer" in itself. The convenience and reduced travel time to popular spots can be a significant draw.
- Convenience of Online Booking: The use of Roverpass for payments and reservations offers a modern convenience, streamlining the booking process for tech-savvy campers.
It is always recommended for prospective guests to visit the Tawas River RV Park listing on Roverpass or contact the park directly via phone to inquire about the most current rates, availability, and any specific seasonal discounts that might be offered, although these are not explicitly advertised in the provided reviews. Given the feedback about communication, persistence in contact may be necessary. Any offers would be subject to change and specific terms.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Tawas River RV Park, despite some notable challenges indicated by recent reviews, holds a specific appeal for Michiganders seeking a practical and conveniently located base for their summer RV adventures in the Tawas Bay area. Its suitability for locals primarily revolves around its excellent geographic position and its core offering for RV travel.

In essence, Tawas River RV Park can serve as a functional and budget-conscious choice for experienced RVers who prioritize location and self-sufficiency, especially during the peak summer months. Customer Reviews
no management communication they work Tuesday and Thursday if you're wondering and will not return your phone calls. you pay on rover pass website go to a random spot cause your spot is probably taken. they turn off the water in November, I suspected they would turn the water off but its not stated anywhere on rover pass, their website, or the office. they have serious plumbing issues at the park urinals are filled with black water and the showers drain to a main drain that is clogged so the bathhouse is useless. Long story short if you plan to stay here make sure its in the summer and make sure your camper shower works.
SINCE WE RENT THE LOT THE TRAILERS ARE ON. THE COMPANY NEEDS TO NOT ONLY MOW THE PARK BUT ALSO THE LOTS THE TRAILERS ARE ON. SINCE EVERYONE IS JUST RENTING. IT IS THE PARKS RESPONSIBILITY TO ALSO MOW THE RENTERS LOTS AS WELL.
DO NOT GO HERE! This park is owned by Clear Trail Realty in Richmond, VA. I made a reservation over 30 days out on 6-28-24 and due to unforeseen circumstances, cancelled it the next day. Per their cancellation policy, 100% refund up to 7 days prior to reservation date. They have refused to refund my money as of 8-12-24. My credit card covered my loss. On site mgr said that this happens all the time. He once had to argue with the owner for 6 months to refund a $1300 charge when the customer refused to stay at the park because it was a dump. My loss was only $116. RoverPass, the online booking intermediary, was no help. They state that they do not manage any refunds. Thank goodness we didn't stay here.
I recommend you not live here at all I have had a wall in my trailer that I’m RENTING caving in my floor is molding because my wall is leaking so bad my ceiling right above this wall is now also leaking this has now been about 2 months and the manager won’t call me back her husband got super rude with me this is getting unsafe and the ceiling is wanting to bust because it has so much water
I wish I could leave a no star review. I signed my title over to the manager of this park about a year in a half ago and just received court papers saying I still own said trailer. And can't talk to anyone about it. Their lawyers office won't call me back and the manager is the one I gave the title to with 5 different witnesses present.
