As part of the well-known KOA network, this campground aims to provide a consistent and convenient experience for RVers, tent campers, and those seeking lodging. Located in Washington, PA, it serves as a gateway to exploring both the historical charm of Washington County and the vibrant attractions of nearby Pittsburgh.
KOA Journey campgrounds are specifically designed to be easy overnight stops, offering long pull-through RV sites and essential amenities for travelers. While some past visitors have noted specific challenges, the overall KOA brand promise is to deliver a reliable and friendly camping experience. For locals, this means a trusted option for quick escapes or a base camp for exploring the rich history and diverse recreational opportunities that Southwestern Pennsylvania has to offer.
Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey is located at 7 KOA Rd, Washington, PA 15301, USA. This places the campground strategically just off Interstates 70 and 79, making it a convenient stop for those traveling through Pennsylvania. Washington, PA, is the county seat of Washington County, a region rich in history, from its role in the Whiskey Rebellion to its charming covered bridges.
While the proximity to major interstates offers convenience, some reviews highlight challenges with accessing the campground and noise. One review noted, "Not conveniently located. Not big rig friendly. Very narrow roads through town and then out through countryside in full circle back next to interstates 70 and 79." Another mentioned the "Campground is up a steep hill, and there is a lot of road noise." It's important for prospective visitors, especially those with larger RVs, to be aware that GPS directions might lead to difficult roads, and it's recommended to "Follow only the signs or the actual KOA site to come in." The "lot of road noise" is a consideration due to its location near the interstates. However, its position "28 miles south of Pittsburgh" makes it a viable base for exploring both local attractions and the city's offerings like museums, restaurants, and sports venues.

The "lot of road noise" and "narrow roads through town" for access are also significant considerations for potential visitors, particularly those with large rigs. The pricing, described as "$60 for sites like they offer is terrible!" by one reviewer, suggests that value for money might be a concern for some.

Customer Reviews
Not conveniently located. Not big rig friendly. Very narrow roads through town and then out through countryside in full circle back next to interstates 70 and 79. Campground is up a steep hill, and there is a lot of road noise. Sites are narrow. Water hookups are every other site, so we had to run a hose under the RV to reach the hookup. We made it with our pickup and 30 foot fifth wheel , but we wouldn't go back again.
The woman in the office was nice. Our site was terrible. Read the recent 1 and 2 star reviews; they are true. I wish I had read them before booking. I called the office and told her we could not stay on such a short, narrow, lumpy, uneven site where the water hook-up was 50 ft away. We aren’t sure if we will get a refund. Asking $60 for sites like they offer is terrible!
This Koa needs alot of TLC. Old and on a hill overlooking very noisy highway. Truck noise all night. Road coming in from town is very twisty and narrow. Sites unlevel where our tires were off the ground and extensions of steps maxed out. Bathroom clean but old. Office staff pleasant, but no escort to steep site. I would not stay again and do not recommend.
The worst KOA I have ever been to, the entrance is ridiculous, as is the slope of the entire park. The gravel is huge rocks, makes it hard to walk, and couldn't hook to water as the water was on opposite side of the RV . The neighbors fire pit was at our front tire. Maintenance is non existent. I can't express enough, keep driving to the next location. **Pic's attached, last 2 are of great KOA's.. NOT THIS LOCATION
Not really big rig friendly to get to, very very narrow road for several miles. You can do it, but it sucks. Now let’s talk about the gigantic stones they used as fill all over the grounds. Maybe #2 base stone, definitely NOT driveway stone. Just about rolled my ankle simply walking on it. Motorcycles were an absolute nightmare! Went into a full slide in 1st gear, using a little brake, just trying to get down the hill to pavement. I’ve ridden gravel lots of times and even loose stone straight up a drive in TN and never had a situation like this. So unless you are in a small rig and do not intend to leave the campground, this is not the place for you. The only positive was the pleasantness and helpfulness of the gal at check in.
