A.R.U. Marina & Campgrounds is located at 1500 Great Lakes Ave, Ashtabula, OH 44004, a strategic location that underscores its connection to Lake Erie. Ashtabula, a city in Ashtabula County, sits directly on the shores of Lake Erie, providing access to one of North America's largest freshwater lakes. Customer reviews, while varied, offer insights into the experiences at A.R.U. Marina & Campgrounds. One review highlights a positive, long-term relationship with the establishment: "I have been going there for the last several years, and the Owners are two of the nicest people you can meet. Well taken care of no problems. Is oh big overnight screaming parties all night. Just a beautiful place to spend a week." This feedback paints a picture of a well-maintained, peaceful environment, managed by friendly owners. However, another review expresses significant frustration, detailing an incident where a family was "kicked out" from fishing on what they believed was public or permitted property, leading to a strong negative perception of staff friendliness and a decision to take their business elsewhere for dock fees. This contrasting feedback suggests that while many find it a pleasant, well-kept, and tranquil spot, new visitors should clarify policies regarding property access and recreational use to ensure a smooth experience. Our aim is to present this information factually to assist Ohio locals in making informed decisions for their outdoor activities.
A.R.U. Marina & Campgrounds is strategically located at 1500 Great Lakes Ave, Ashtabula, OH 44004, USA. This address places it directly in Ashtabula, a significant port city situated on the southern shore of Lake Erie in Ashtabula County, the largest county by area in Ohio. The name "Great Lakes Ave" itself strongly implies its direct connection and proximity to Lake Erie, making it an ideal location for marine and lakeside activities.

A.R.U. Marina & Campgrounds offers a dual set of services, catering to both boaters and campers, aiming to provide a comprehensive experience for visitors to Lake Erie. While not every service is detailed in the provided reviews, the combination of "Marina & Campgrounds" implies a range of standard offerings:
-
Boat Docking and Mooring: As a marina, a core service would be providing dockage for boats, likely including seasonal dock fees for long-term placement and potentially transient slips for overnight or short-term stays. The review mentioning "payed for season dock fees" directly confirms this service.
-
Camping Facilities: The "Campgrounds" aspect suggests offering sites for tents, RVs, or trailers. These sites would typically include access to basic amenities like water and potentially electric hookups, though specific types of sites (e.g., full hookup, primitive) would need to be confirmed.
-
Restroom and Shower Facilities: Standard for most campgrounds and marinas, clean restrooms and shower facilities would be expected to accommodate campers and boaters.
-
Fishing Access: While a point of contention in one review, the availability of fishing opportunities, whether from docks, shore, or by boat, is a key service for a lakeside establishment.
-
On-Site Management and Owners: The direct mention of "Owners" being "two of the nicest people you can meet" implies a hands-on, owner-operated management style, which can lead to personalized service and attentive care for the property.

This suggests a calm, family-friendly atmosphere conducive to relaxation and quiet enjoyment of nature.

Customer Reviews
I took my 7 yo fishing there Sunday and we was kicked out saying it's private property, Okay I have fished there several times in the past with permission and we always purchased fishing supplies there and we was always respectful and polite out of the way, And you think that they would post sign's and me and my boss was supposed to dock his boat there this following Friday so kinda greatful this happened so we know it's not a friendly staff there before we payed for season dock fees.so much for supporting smaller local businesses you get what you pay For so back to Geneva Marina where people are friendly and welcoming!!!! It's true you get what you pay for believe it.
I have been going there for the last several years, and the Owners are two of the nicest people you can meet. Well taken care of no problems. Is oh big overnight screaming parties all night. Just a beautiful place to spend a week.
Not sure why these folks get bad reviews. Absolutely enjoyed our stay. The owner is a genuine person and has worked over the last 40 years to turn this property into an affordable destination. It is also very safe and well maintained.
If you're just going to visit it's fine. I don't recommend setting your camper or RV up here though. Rent is over priced and the owner is...well yeah we'll leave that one alone
Owners are very friendly, attentive and accommodating. They keep the camp grounds very well maintained !
