Promotions or Special Offers:
Alcona Park, as a county park, typically has its own pricing and reservation system distinct from federal or state parks, though it often offers competitive rates. While specific promotional "offers" like discounts might vary seasonally or based on specific events, the park's core value lies in its diverse offerings at reasonable prices.
Campsite rates vary depending on the type of site (rustic, semi-modern, full hookup) and the season. Cabin rentals also have their own pricing structure, such as the reviewer mentioning $140 for two nights for a cabin (note that prices can change, always verify current rates directly with the park). There is generally a $10 booking fee for reservations.
Reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak season (June 25th to August 15th, with a minimum five-night stay often required for modern, semi-modern, and full-service sites during this period). The office opens April 1st for reservations, which can be made by phone or in person. Total charges are typically due within two weeks of making reservations.
While not a traditional "promotion," the value provided by Alcona Park, with its wide range of amenities, family-friendly atmosphere, and direct river access, offers significant value for its cost, making it an attractive option for Michiganders seeking a quality camping experience. For specific details on current rates, availability, and any potential seasonal specials, direct contact with the park is always recommended.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Alcona Park is an exceptionally suitable destination for Michigan locals, offering a comprehensive and incredibly versatile outdoor experience that caters to a wide array of preferences. For families, it truly is a "new favorite campground," with "so many playgrounds" and a welcoming atmosphere that ensures children have an unforgettable time. The availability of both modern full-hookup sites and more rustic options means whether you're bringing a large RV or a small tent, you'll find a comfortable spot that suits your style.
The park's location directly on the Au Sable River is a major draw for Michiganders who love fishing, canoeing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the tranquil waters. The "beautiful views" from sites and cabins provide a picturesque backdrop for relaxation. While cabins might be "a little pricey for what's included" according to one review, their privacy and comfort offer a different tier of experience, especially for those who prefer not to "drink or party" and desire a quiet retreat. The token system for showers, while a minor inconvenience for some, is a small trade-off for the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities.
Alcona Park encapsulates the best of Michigan's outdoor offerings: natural beauty, diverse recreational opportunities, and a strong sense of community and family-friendliness. It’s a place where you can easily spend a weekend or a full week, creating lasting memories with loved ones. Its convenient location, varied amenities, and dedication to a quality outdoor experience make it a highly recommended destination for Michiganders looking for their next great camping adventure.

This is my new favorite campground. Very kid friendly, I love the coloring pages in the store and the free popcorn. The staff has been so friendly and the place is just beautiful. We're going to book another trip before we check out. So many playgrounds, big sites, beautiful views. It's wonderful.
May 26, 2025 · Elisabeth NorthrupBeautiful views from the cabins on the East side. They are pretty private and it's nice because we don't drink or party and sometimes it's hard to separate from others who are out partying all night. Cabins do not have electricity or water but it was fine for what we needed. It says on the website that the one we rented sleeps six but there were just two beds. One was a bunk bed and another a full sized single. Rentals are a little pricey for what's included. It was $140 for two nights and you cannot put any additional tents or anything on the property without paying extra. Showers take tokens, which you have to buy from the office. Tokens are $0.25 each and get you about 5-7 minutes per token. That's not expensive but for the overall price, showers should be included. There are outhouses located throughout the park and most of them are fairly clean but do not usually have toilet paper. Overall we had a good experience but there are some things that could be improved.
Aug 08, 2023 · Amanda PoppitiThis is a wonderful park, with two public-use boat launches. The Eastern launch is for the trailer-needed boats, and a smaller one for the kayak/paddleboard crowd. Very clean park, with good energy, kind staff, and a fully staffed ice and wood kiosk at the camp entrance.
May 28, 2024 · Mineka FrierLove this campground! All the necessities and lots of wildlife!!! Very large and spread out, made for great morning walks. Watch out for the chickens! 😆 absolutely beautiful area, will definitely return!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Jul 30, 2021 · Michelle MillerDefinitely will be back! The owners are very accommodating! The cabins are cute and clean! Very well priced 55$ a night. No electric in the back cabins. They do have camp sites as well
