The American Legion campground is an absolute gem! It’s conveniently located right across from Detroit Lake, just a few blocks from Zorbaz and one of the trolls, putting you right in the heart of all the action. A highlight of our stay was the incredible view of the fireworks; it felt like they were falling right on us, giving us a front-row seat to the show. The showers were hot and clean, which was a huge plus. While the campground had a bit of a party atmosphere—especially since it was a holiday weekend—there were still plenty of quiet hours to enjoy. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Overall, we loved our experience at the American Legion and can’t wait to return!
Jul 10, 2025 · Meredith WilliamsThis is a great central location in Detroit Lakes. We enjoyed walking by the beach and to restaurants and shops. We had a full hook up RV site (#37). It was a tight spot to back into with our rig length but once we were set up it was great. There is a nice playground a couple of sites over. The only reason I’m not giving this campground 5 stars is that the train is right next door and the whistle blew a few times in the middle of the night. We would still stay here again when we’re in the area.
May 26, 2025 · Laura AmisThis campground is Amazing! The staff was friendly, the bathroom are extremely clean, the amount of things to do in walking distance are plenty! Our stay was from Tuesday to Sunday and don't even think we scratched the surface of all the things to do in Detroit Lakes. The seasonal people are extremely kind and helpful also to the non-seasonal campers. Throughout our stay I feel like I was constantly seeing a guy that works here going around doing things to just make the campground look nicer. One morning he even came through and cleaned off our cement pad from leaves. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their Campground and would strongly recommend staying here! If we are ever back in this area it will definitely be where we're staying!
Jun 22, 2025 · Becky BickneseThe park its self is nice. But there are a few issues. Trains and air planes. The trains go by and blow their horns, must be a crossing really close. There must be an airport really close also and the park is in its landing path. There must be come in low and loud. One other thing that could be dangerous, the lights in the restroom. Taking a shower at night is not advised. The lights are on motion sensors. They went out on me twice! And I don’t take long showers. Other then that, they support the American Legion and the Legion supports charity.
Jul 24, 2025 · Roy RuprechtThe campground is very conveniently place close to the main drive around Detroit Lake. You can walk to the local shops and is even close to Pickleball courts (which are very nice!) and the first Troll Alexa in the Detroit Lakes Trolls. The campground itself is mainly seasonal sites with some daily rental sites. Playground for kiddos is nice. They have a nice small gift shop at checkin. Great staff. To be fair, this campground is mainly a place to hang out and crash after a day of fun on the water, site seeing, or Troll hunting. While there are decent amenities, you are very close to your neighbors. Overall, would definitely recommend.
