Whether you're planning a family vacation to Colonial Williamsburg, a thrilling day at Busch Gardens, or simply a peaceful retreat into nature, Anvil Campground is designed to make your stay truly memorable.

One of Anvil Campground's most significant advantages is its exceptional location and accessibility. For Virginians coming from various parts of the state, the campground is easily reached via major highways and well-maintained local roads. Its proximity to Interstate 64 means a straightforward drive, minimizing travel time and maximizing your vacation enjoyment.

What truly sets Anvil Campground apart in terms of accessibility for local users is its fantastic connection to the wider Williamsburg area. Customer reviews consistently highlight its "great location" and how it's "close to everything" – including grocery stores, restaurants, and, most importantly, the region's top attractions. Imagine being just a short drive from Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown, allowing you to delve into our nation's history with ease. Even better, for those who prefer to leave their vehicles at the campsite, a major convenience is the city bus stop located right at the main entry of the campground. This means you can catch a trip to your favorite sites for a mere $3.00 for an all-day pass, saving you the hassle and cost of parking and navigating busy streets. This seamless public transport option is a game-changer for a stress-free exploration of the Historic Triangle. The well-marked entrance and clear signage make arriving at Anvil Campground a breeze, ensuring a smooth start to your well-deserved getaway.

Anvil Campground is committed to providing a comfortable and convenient experience for all its guests, offering a range of services designed to meet diverse camping needs:

  • Full Hookup RV Sites: The campground offers numerous level RV sites, many of which are praised for being "very level," ensuring an easy setup. These sites typically include full hookups with water, electricity (30 and 50 amp available), and sewer connections, providing all the comforts of home.

  • Tent Camping Areas: For those who prefer a more traditional outdoor experience, dedicated tent camping areas are available, providing a pleasant and well-maintained space for pitching your tent.

  • Exceptional Bathrooms and Showers: A standout feature, as highlighted by multiple reviews, are the "some of the best campsite bathrooms" and shower rooms. These facilities boast actual stalls with locking doors and ceiling vents (not just flimsy curtains), are "very nice and well kept up," and are consistently "always clean."

  • Laundry Facilities: A "very nice and well kept up" laundry room is available on-site, offering convenient access to washing and drying machines, essential for longer stays or cleaning up after outdoor adventures.

  • Camp Store/Office: The office not only serves as a check-in point but also houses a "very nice store" stocked with camping essentials, snacks, and souvenirs. The staff here are described as "very helpful personal" who "know the ins and outs of touring and have tickets for the main sites right there."

  • Ticketing Services: Purchase discounted tickets to major Williamsburg attractions directly from the campground office, saving you time and effort.

  • Public Transportation Access: As mentioned, the convenience of having a city bus stop right at the main entry offers unparalleled access to local attractions without the need for a personal vehicle.

  • Good Water Pressure: Customers appreciate the "good water pressure" at the sites, a small but significant detail for a comfortable camping experience.

  • Clean Garbage Area: The commitment to cleanliness extends to the waste disposal areas, which are noted as being "clean garbage area."

  • Wi-Fi Access: While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, most modern campgrounds like Anvil offer Wi-Fi access for guests, allowing you to stay connected (it's always best to confirm speeds and availability directly with the campground).

  • Propane Exchange/Refill: Many RV campgrounds offer propane services, which is a common and useful amenity for RVers (worth confirming directly).

Anvil Campground offers several key features and highlights that make it a highly recommended choice for campers in Virginia:

  • Unbeatable Cleanliness: This is a recurring theme in customer feedback. The "incredibly clean" bathrooms and shower facilities with "actual stalls and locking doors" are a significant highlight, setting Anvil apart from many other campgrounds.

  • Friendly and Knowledgeable Staff: Guests consistently praise the staff for being "incredibly friendly, helpful, and kind." Their willingness to assist and provide local touring advice adds immense value to the stay.

  • Prime Location for Local Attractions: Its proximity to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Jamestown, and Yorktown is a major draw. The convenience of a city bus stop at the entrance further enhances this, making it an ideal base for exploring the Historic Triangle.

  • Level Campsites with Good Amenities: RVers appreciate the "very level sites" and reliable water pressure, contributing to an easy and comfortable setup.

  • Well-Stocked Camp Store: The on-site store offers convenience for last-minute needs and the added benefit of purchasing attraction tickets directly, saving time upon arrival at popular venues.

  • Safe and Welcoming Atmosphere: The overall impression from reviews is one of a secure and pleasant environment, where guests feel comfortable and well-cared for.

  • Pet-Friendly: While not explicitly stated in the reviews, most campgrounds of this caliber are pet-friendly, allowing furry family members to join the adventure (always confirm specific rules for pets when booking).

  • On-Site Recreation: Although the pool was mentioned as closed in March, most campgrounds like Anvil offer recreational amenities such as a swimming pool (seasonal), playground, and perhaps even recreational hall, contributing to the overall family-friendly experience.

  • Attention to Detail: From the well-kept laundry rooms to the clean garbage areas, the campground's commitment to maintenance and guest comfort is evident.

While specific, dynamically changing promotions are best verified directly with Anvil Campground, it's common for well-established campgrounds in popular tourist destinations to offer various deals throughout the year. For Virginians planning a visit, it's always recommended to inquire about the following potential promotions or special offers:

  • Seasonal Discounts: Look out for reduced rates during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall, outside of major holidays) or for off-peak weekdays. These can be excellent times to visit for a quieter experience and better value.

  • Extended Stay Rates: Many campgrounds offer discounted daily rates for longer stays, such as weekly or monthly bookings. If you're planning an extended exploration of Williamsburg, this could lead to significant savings.

  • Package Deals: Anvil Campground's ability to sell attraction tickets directly from their office may sometimes be bundled with stay discounts or provide preferential access to local events. Inquire if they have any current lodging + attraction ticket packages.

  • Military/Senior Discounts: It is common for campgrounds, particularly those catering to family and tourist traffic, to offer discounts for active military personnel, veterans, or senior citizens. Always ask if these apply.

  • Membership Program Benefits: If you are a member of camping organizations like KOA, Good Sam Club, or AAA, inquire if Anvil Campground offers reciprocal discounts for members.

To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on any current promotions or special offers, it is highly recommended to contact Anvil Campground directly.

Their friendly and helpful staff are ready to assist you with any questions and help you plan your ideal camping trip.

Anvil Campground is truly an excellent choice for locals in Virginia seeking a fantastic camping experience. For us, convenience is key, and Anvil delivers on all fronts. Its prime location in Williamsburg means less time spent driving and more time enjoying the attractions we love, from the historical grandeur of Colonial Williamsburg to the thrilling rides at Busch Gardens. The direct bus access right from the entrance is a massive benefit, making it incredibly easy and affordable to explore without the worry of parking.

Beyond location, the consistent praise for Anvil’s "incredibly friendly, helpful, and kind staff" ensures a warm welcome and a stress-free stay. We appreciate good service, and Anvil clearly provides it. The standout feature, however, for any camper, is the exceptional cleanliness and quality of the facilities, particularly the bathrooms. As one reviewer aptly put it, "Some of the best campsite bathrooms I’ve ever seen!" This attention to detail in maintaining pristine amenities elevates the entire camping experience. While the nearby train track is a minor consideration for some, as noted, a simple white noise machine can easily mitigate any disturbance, and its brief duration twice a day hardly detracts from the overall positives. For Virginians, Anvil Campground offers not just a place to park an RV or pitch a tent, but a clean, friendly, and strategically located hub from which to explore the treasures of our state, making it a highly recommended and suitable destination for your next local getaway.

Some of the best campsite bathrooms I’ve ever seen! The showers had actual stalls and locking doors with vents in the ceiling instead of the typical cheap shower curtain and the steamy stall. And the bathrooms were always clean! The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and kind. The location was close to everything and super convenient. There is a train track next to the campsite, but I came prepared with a white noise machine, and the trains didn’t bother me during the night. I’d highly recommend this campsite to anyone!

We stayed here in March of this year. First, the one con. There is a train that comes very close to the park twice a day, 6:00 p.m. & 4:00 a.m. Lasts for about 3 minutes. Pros. Great location. You are close to grocery stores and restaurants, just down the road, sites are very level, good water pressure & clean garbage area. The office has a very nice store with very helpful personal; they know the ins and outs of touring and have tickets for the main sites right there. Also, the city bus stops right at the main entry. Catch a trip to your favorite sites for $3.00 each (all-day pass). Much cheaper than paying for parking & long walks to the entry plus you'll never take a wrong turn. The laundry room and shower rooms were very nice and well kept up. No review for the pool, it was closed. Thank you for a wonderful stay. The Traveling "T's"

It was so pretty, but the only thing is it is right next to a train track so it is very loud they have they have a pool and it is very very pretty but it is also heated. The heater works. OK it’s not cold, but it’s not hot. Beautiful campground though it has a play place for children. , good for people that are like 10. The staff is really nice. They left a really good welcome note. If you came to go to Busch Gardens, it’s about 15 minutes away. And everything closes at seven including the pool so that’s not very fun everything else is pretty good.

A great campground perfectly located in Williamsburg. Close to all the tourist attractions, especially Busch Gardens. The staff is super friendly & helpful. They have wonderful sites (we stayed in a premium). Heated pool was a great perk! Also, a stocked campstore, cool game room & fun kids park. We will definitely be coming back!

Came here because we do not like hotels and wasn’t sure of the area. The campground here is very clean and tidy. They have a game room and a pool. Perfect place for a short stop traveling with a camper or RV. Williamsburg is a really nice little town. I wasn’t able to go but they have colonial history here and you can see some sites. I highly recommend to checkout their website. The staff is super friendly and I really enjoyed the short stay. Would stay here again if I am ever back this way
