Washunga Campground About
For Oklahomans, the call of the great outdoors is an irresistible invitation, and there's nothing quite like setting up camp near one of our beautiful lakes. Kaw Lake, a jewel in Northern Oklahoma, is a perennial favorite for fishing, boating, and simply unwinding. Nestled on its shores, Washunga Campground offers a prime location for those looking to immerse themselves in nature with the conveniences that make camping enjoyable. This large and generally well-regarded campground provides a quintessential Oklahoma camping experience, combining natural beauty with essential amenities.
Washunga Campground has built a reputation as a spacious and clean destination, offering sites that cater to both RVs and tent campers. With features like individual fire rings, picnic tables, and readily available utilities, it aims to provide a comfortable base for your outdoor adventures. The serene environment, particularly during off-peak times, is frequently highlighted by visitors, making it an ideal spot for those seeking peace and quiet amidst the natural beauty of Kaw Lake.
While the campground generally excels in offering a pleasant experience, it's also important for prospective campers to be aware of certain operational aspects, such as water quality advisories that can occasionally impact usage of showers and flush toilets. This transparency allows for proper planning, ensuring your trip is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Despite these occasional challenges, the fundamental appeal of Washunga Campground—its spaciousness, cleanliness, and proximity to Kaw Lake—continues to make it a favored spot for many Oklahomans year after year.
Location and Accessibility
Washunga Campground is uniquely situated on an Unnamed Road, in Kaw City, OK 74641, USA. Its location is intrinsically tied to Kaw Lake, one of Oklahoma's significant recreational lakes. This direct proximity is a major draw, offering campers immediate access to the lake's abundant fishing, boating, and water sports opportunities. For those who prioritize lake-centric activities, Washunga Campground offers an unparalleled base from which to explore Kaw Lake's vast expanse.
Kaw City, while a small community, provides basic services and a connection to the wider region. Access to the campground typically involves navigating local roads that lead directly to the lakefront. As with many campgrounds nestled in natural areas, it's advisable for visitors to ensure they have clear directions, especially as the address is listed as "Unnamed Road." However, for anyone familiar with navigating to recreational areas in Oklahoma, the journey should be straightforward. The remoteness contributes to the campground's peaceful atmosphere, making it a true escape from urban noise.
Being part of the Kaw Lake area means campers are immersed in a landscape rich with opportunities for hiking, bird watching, and simply enjoying the Oklahoma outdoors. While the campground itself provides a secluded feel, it remains accessible enough for supplies and provisions from nearby towns like Ponca City, ensuring that campers can balance their desire for wilderness with the convenience of modern amenities. Customer Reviews
It’s a large, clean campground with water, power and relatively level sites. Dumpsters are available at the entrance for trash and there’s an abundance of firewood for use. The RV dump has flushing water available with a non-threaded drop. Each camp has a fire ring and picnic table. It was quiet the week we were there so it really deserves five stars but…. This location has a boil order for the water. This order is not mentioned, let alone listed on the booking site but there is a note at the entrance on a sheet of paper. The water has an oily substance in it so if you’re thinking of using it for showers, know what’s going in your plumbing. All the showers were closed as well as the flush toilets. Maybe it was because of the time of year or maybe because the water isn’t too good on the plumbing. If I had known what I was connecting to, I would not have hooked my hoses.
always clean and peaceful.
Can't put tent by water very disappointed
I'll be honest. Look like a great campground. However, we were just there to launch the boat and that was a great doc. A great boat launch!
The Catfish have observation stations....counting every boat launched and the number of fishermen aboard. There is local concern for the thousands of catfish being kidnapped and taken to Kansas. Be cautious with your stories "about limits" As there are people listening and repeating....numerous times Tales of weight and numbers Slipping thru the Camp Host gateway....without even a nod To the Game Warden.
