Introduction / Overview
Back-Achers Campsite, nestled in the scenic Finger Lakes Region of New York, offers a distinct and highly sought-after camping experience for local residents: a private campground with its own secluded lake frontage on the stunning Seneca Lake. Located in Himrod, NY, this "little gem" is renowned for its tranquil atmosphere and direct access to the water, setting it apart from many larger, more commercialized options in the area. The campground operates seasonally, typically from May through October, embracing the best of the New York outdoor season.
The property provides a diverse range of accommodation options, including dedicated RV sites, tent camping areas (some with exceptional lake views), and charming cottage rentals. Many of the RV spots are occupied by seasonal residents, which contributes to a friendly, established community feel. While the campsites themselves are noted to be quite tightly packed, the surrounding natural beauty of lawns and woods, combined with the unparalleled access to Seneca Lake, solidifies Back-Achers as a premier, albeit rustic, destination for New York locals seeking a serene base camp for exploring the region. Guests appreciate the quiet nature of the park, and the commitment of management, who are often on-site, to ensuring a peaceful environment, though occasional neighborly considerations, such as proximity to fire rings and noise, may arise.
This destination is ideally situated for those prioritizing wine touring and lake recreation, making it an indispensable part of the Finger Lakes getaway experience for New Yorkers.

Quiet campground on lake Seneca. Tightly packed campsites, surround by lawns and woods, pretty, no views of the lake until you walk to the lake. Some tent sites and a cabin have lake views. Nice breeze. Clean bathroom. We were tightly packed in, it was almost concerning to have a fire, we had to ask our neighbor to move his truck a couple feet from our campgroundfire ring. Luckily our neighbors shared many of our northern beliefs and attitudes. Someone left their dogs crying and barking for hours in a camper, I had to call and complain around 9:30pm. We had a restful night but I don't think I would return because of how very close you are to your neighbors, I'm sure they heard us talking.
Aug 23, 2025 · Jen B.Got the chance to visit this little gem of a campground/RV Park last weekend. We stayed in spot 15 which I’m still not sure if it’s the best or the worst spot as it is right outside of the bathhouse…. We were welcomed by Wanda when we arrived and settled in quickly. This campground is mainly seasonal residence who were all very friendly. Great spot for kids as they had lots of playground equipment. And to be right on the lake was amazing. The tent spots are definitely the best spots! The hill to go down to the lake is a little bit steep. But I made it up and down quite a few times in flip-flops. I took quite a few pictures cause I felt like there were not many of the facility. And I’m one of those obnoxious people that likes to know where I am going, ha. So I’m hoping this will help someone else. Do be aware that there is not many stores open after 6 PM close by. There is a grocery store open till nine and a Dollar General. Both were about 15 minutes away. Oh, and I almost forgot the bathroom/bath house facilities were fantastic. Hot showers with great pressure! They even have a nice sink outback for you to do your dishes.
Aug 05, 2025 · Margaux MillerWe loved our stay here. Our tent site was right by the lake and you could hear the serene sounds of water splashing at night. Campground was extremely clean and well maintained. Lots of kids running around on the grass and having fun in the summer. Great place to enjoy as a couple or family. Bathroom facilities were top notch for a campground and included electrical outlets. Signage could have been a bit more clear trying to find our site in the dark, but we figured it out. You can walk down to the dock and get a panoramic view of the lake. Can’t beat waking up to those views.
Jun 16, 2025 · Katie MayThis was an absolutely beautiful campsite! I'm so happy I came across this campground on Google Maps and decided to give it a try. The owners were very kind. The site was spacious and had an amazing view of the lake. The bathhouse was clean and the showers had great water temperature and pressure. The firewood was a great price and burned great - $20 for a "gator load" which they deliver to your site for you. We fell in love with this campground and already can't wait to return!
Jun 11, 2024 · Cassandra NattMrs. Wanda and family especially her son was absolutely very nice and welcoming. Clean! We loved the serenity of the campground and the view from the beach is breathtaking. Only wish we had a closer spot to the tint camping beach area. Overall we will definitely be back maybe in the Fall, Back Achers is one of our top RV camp spots that we have stayed at from the east coast to the midwestern states. Thanks again for everything and a big thumbs up with Tom (Driver) that we can’t wait to book a winery-vineyard tour with him come this fall. The Shep’s
