- Diverse Campsites: The campground features 23 gravel camp pads that accommodate both RVs and tents. Sites 13-23 are particularly appealing as they are next to the river bank, while sites 1-6 are pull-through for easy access.
- Modern Shower House & Restrooms: A significant highlight, overcoming previous limitations. While one older review mentioned only pit toilets, current information confirms a shower house with modern bathrooms and showers is available at the shelter house immediately west of the campground. These facilities are often praised as "nice showers" and are open 24/7 during warm weather.
- Pit Toilet Facilities: In addition to the modern shower house, a pit toilet is also available within the campground itself, providing an alternative, more rustic option for convenience.
- Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, perfect for outdoor dining and enjoying campfires. One reviewer noted their campsite didn't have a grate on the fire pit, suggesting campers might consider bringing their own for cooking convenience.

As a county campground managed by the Van Buren County Conservation, Bentonsport Campground typically operates on a standard fee structure rather than offering frequent commercial "promotions." Camping fees are generally affordable, reflecting the Conservation Board's mission to provide accessible outdoor recreation for Iowa residents. Prices for electric and tent sites are competitive with other county and state parks in Iowa.
However, the broader Van Buren County Conservation often organizes and participates in various community events and educational programs that could be considered valuable "offers" for locals. While not directly tied to campsite discounts, these events enhance the overall visitor experience in the area. Such programs might include:
- Heritage Events: Given Bentonsport's historic nature, there may be festivals, craft fairs, or historical reenactments organized by the Villages of Van Buren, Inc., or local historical societies.
- Nature Programs: Guided walks, birdwatching events, or river-focused educational sessions hosted by the Conservation Board at various county parks, which campers could attend.
- Bike Touring Events: The county is popular for cycling, and events like "Bike Van Buren" might offer special activities or group rates that involve camping at Bentonsport.

Customer Reviews
Bentonsport County Campground is in historic, rural Van Buren County. I stayed there for the night while bicycle touring one summer. The campground is on the Des Moines River, and is a beautiful site for camping. The county campground has electric and tent sites, but there are no showers and only pit toilet facilities. I arrived in the afternoon, set up camp, "showered" with my cooking pot at a camp spigot, and rode my bike a short way to Bentonsport, where there is a sandwich shop open on weekends. After a sandwich and ice cream, I enjoyed the evening on the river, snapping a few photos. It rained during the night, and the next morning I transported my stuff to a gazebo in town in order to dry out my tent before packing. Bentonsport is a friendly little village, and I imagine I'll camp there again someday.
We loved camping here!! Beautiful views of the river and nice showers too. Only downside was the flies and our campsite didn't have a grate on our fire pit so we had to go buy a grill. We plan to come back soon!
Quiet and clean. Right next to the Des Moines river!
We pulled in on a Saturday without a reservation. Website said there are generally site’s available and there were several. The host had a sign out “off duty” and there were no instructions on how to proceed. It was a beautiful location but sketchy. The hosts motorhome was littered with junk. Scary place. We left and made our way over to the state park and it is lovely.
The riverbank was very pretty, the campground was quiet and clean, and geodes are super common around the area.
