Bentonsport County Campground is in historic, rural Van Buren County. I stayed there for the night while bicycle touring one summer. The campground is on the Des Moines River, and is a beautiful site for camping. The county campground has electric and tent sites, but there are no showers and only pit toilet facilities. I arrived in the afternoon, set up camp, "showered" with my cooking pot at a camp spigot, and rode my bike a short way to Bentonsport, where there is a sandwich shop open on weekends. After a sandwich and ice cream, I enjoyed the evening on the river, snapping a few photos. It rained during the night, and the next morning I transported my stuff to a gazebo in town in order to dry out my tent before packing. Bentonsport is a friendly little village, and I imagine I'll camp there again someday.
May 12, 2018 · Tom KeplerWe loved camping here!! Beautiful views of the river and nice showers too. Only downside was the flies and our campsite didn't have a grate on our fire pit so we had to go buy a grill. We plan to come back soon!
Jul 05, 2021 · Becky CarlsonQuiet and clean. Right next to the Des Moines river!
Feb 09, 2023 · Kirk MagillWe pulled in on a Saturday without a reservation. Website said there are generally site’s available and there were several. The host had a sign out “off duty” and there were no instructions on how to proceed. It was a beautiful location but sketchy. The hosts motorhome was littered with junk. Scary place. We left and made our way over to the state park and it is lovely.
Jul 20, 2024 · Sandra ZeliadtThe riverbank was very pretty, the campground was quiet and clean, and geodes are super common around the area.
