Location and Accessibility
Burns Campground is located at 204 Burns Camp, Elizabeth, WV 26143, USA. This address places it in Wirt County, a picturesque area of West Virginia known for its serene rural landscapes and tranquil atmosphere. Elizabeth, the county seat, is a small town that provides a quiet escape from more bustling urban areas, making the campground's location ideal for those seeking peace and quiet.
Accessibility to Burns Campground generally involves navigating county roads that lead to its more secluded setting. While the exact condition of the roads is not specified in the provided information, typical county routes in rural West Virginia are generally paved but can become narrower or winding as you approach more remote areas. Visitors should rely on GPS or mapping services for accurate navigation. The "Burns Camp" address suggests it is somewhat off the main thoroughfare, contributing to its secluded feel. It's important for campers, particularly those with RVs, to be mindful of the road conditions and the approach to the campground. Once on-site, the nature of the sites, as highlighted by a review, indicates that not all areas may be perfectly level, requiring campers to be prepared for some maneuvering and leveling adjustments. Despite any minor navigational considerations, the campground's location offers a genuine opportunity to immerse oneself in the peaceful, natural environment of Wirt County, away from highway noise and city lights. The nearby town of Elizabeth provides basic services and supplies if needed, ensuring a balance between seclusion and convenience for local campers.
Services Offered
Features / Highlights
Promotions or Special Offers
As a more rustic and potentially independently operated campground like Burns Campground, it is unlikely to offer complex seasonal promotions, loyalty programs, or standard discounts often found at larger commercial RV parks or state parks. Its business model likely focuses on straightforward, affordable rates for its primitive or basic sites.
Any "offers" would typically be simple and might include:
Given the customer feedback regarding refund policies and a lack of prorating, it is extremely important for any prospective camper to clarify all payment terms, cancellation policies, and refund eligibility directly with Burns Campground before making any reservations or payments, especially for longer stays. It’s advisable to assume a strict no-refund policy unless stated otherwise in writing.
Contact Information
Direct phone contact is highly recommended for all inquiries regarding Burns Campground, especially to discuss site availability, suitability for RVs (including specific rig sizes and leveling needs), current rates, and, most importantly, their exact policies on reservations, payments, and refunds. This direct communication will help manage expectations and ensure a smoother experience given the nature of the reviews.
Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For West Virginians who are experienced campers and truly embrace the rustic, unfiltered side of outdoor life, Burns Campground in Elizabeth offers a unique, albeit specific, camping opportunity. It’s a place that speaks to those who value seclusion and the basics of nature over modern conveniences, much like the spirit of our "Wild, Wonderful" state itself.
The existing customer reviews, while highlighting certain challenges, also implicitly define its suitable audience. The comment, "Looks nice, but only for tents," immediately tells tent campers that this could be a great fit for them, offering a dedicated space for traditional camping away from large RV resorts. For those with tents, the focus is likely on peace, quiet, and connecting with the natural surroundings of Wirt County.
For RVers, the feedback about "The sites aren't level" and the strict "no refund" policy after an early departure underscore that this isn't for the inexperienced or faint of heart. However, for a seasoned RVer who has "camped in campsites from Louisiana up to Alaska" – and many West Virginians are indeed such intrepid adventurers – these might be manageable challenges. If you’re equipped with good leveling blocks and understand that a "rustic" RV experience means less pampering and more self-reliance, Burns Campground could offer that much-desired quiet, off-the-beaten-path spot. This campground caters to the independent, resilient spirit often found in our local outdoor community.
The review regarding the owner and the prorating issue is a crucial piece of information for locals. It means transparency and clear communication upfront are paramount. If you're planning a longer stay, ensure all terms are agreed upon and understood beforehand. For those who prioritize a very quiet setting and are willing to adapt to a simpler environment, Burns Campground can provide an affordable and secluded retreat right here in West Virginia, offering a different kind of charm for the true nature enthusiast. It's a place where you can forge your own adventure, West Virginia style.

Looks nice, but only for tents. The sites aren't level. Paid for 2 nights. After spending one lopsided night, we left. Could not get a refund. And... no we aren't inexperienced campers. We've camped in campsites from Louisiana up to Alaska. Happy travels!
Jun 20, 2023 · Peggy KempI am a bit set back on the owner. We rented and paid in advance for a month and needed to move out 13 days into the month. He was too cheap to prorate the month and kept the entire rest of the month. I'm guessing he is pretty desperate for money so me careful just saying
