For West Virginia locals and those traveling through our beautiful state, finding a convenient and comfortable spot to park their RV is often a priority. Travel Trailer Center Inc., located in Parkersburg, offers a unique and surprisingly quiet option for RVers seeking a straightforward and peaceful overnight or short-term stay. While its name might suggest a sales or service center, customer reviews indicate it primarily functions as a small, intimate RV park.

This campground operates on an intriguing "honor system," allowing for a flexible and trusting approach to camping. It's a place designed for those who appreciate simplicity and a direct connection to the serene Ohio River, without the need for extensive on-site amenities or a bustling atmosphere. With a limited number of spots, it promises a more personal and less crowded experience, making it distinct from larger, more commercial campgrounds.

Travel Trailer Center Inc. appears to be a favored stop for travelers "passing through" West Virginia, offering a clean and quiet respite. For locals, it could serve as an accessible base for exploring the Parkersburg area, visiting family, or simply enjoying a peaceful riverside escape. Despite some mixed perceptions on pricing and social dynamics, its core offerings of a clean, quiet, and riverfront location make it a noteworthy option for RVers in West Virginia.

Location and Accessibility

Travel Trailer Center Inc. is conveniently located at 66 Waterway St, Parkersburg, WV 26101, USA. Parkersburg is a prominent city in Wood County, West Virginia, situated at the confluence of the Ohio and Little Kanawha Rivers. This strategic location makes the RV park highly accessible and provides a scenic backdrop for a stay.

Being on "Waterway St" and "right on the river" means guests have immediate access to the beautiful Ohio River, offering picturesque views and a calming environment. Parkersburg itself is a hub in the region, with good connectivity to major highways, making it easy for RVers to access the campground from various parts of West Virginia or from neighboring states like Ohio. Its location within a city means that essential services and amenities are readily available.

For West Virginia locals, Parkersburg is a familiar and easily reachable city, making Travel Trailer Center Inc. a convenient stopover or a base for exploring the Mid-Ohio Valley region. The city offers a range of shopping, dining, and cultural attractions, all within a short drive of the campground. While the campground itself is described as "small" and "quiet," its urban-adjacent location ensures that guests are never far from necessary supplies or entertainment. Public transportation might be available in Parkersburg, but for RV travelers, personal vehicle access to the campground and surrounding area is the primary mode of transport. The ease of finding the location and its direct riverfront appeal contribute significantly to its accessibility and desirability.

Services Offered

Travel Trailer Center Inc., functioning as a small RV park, provides essential services focused on facilitating a self-sufficient and convenient stay for RVers. Based on customer reviews, its operational model emphasizes simplicity and trust. Here are the key services offered:

  • RV Sites with Hookups: The park provides dedicated spots for RVs, implicitly offering necessary hookups. While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, RV parks typically offer electrical (30-amp and/or 50-amp), water, and sewer connections for comfortable stays. The mention of RVs being "parked" implies that these essential utilities are available at the sites.

  • Honor System Payment: A unique and notable service feature is the "honor system" for payment. Guests pay "with cash in an envelope in a metal box." This system provides flexibility and convenience for arrivals, particularly outside of traditional office hours, relying on guest integrity.

  • Quiet Environment: Visitors consistently describe the park as "quiet," which is a valuable service for those seeking a peaceful night's rest or a calm retreat from their travels.

  • Cleanliness: The park is described as "Clean" in one review, indicating a commitment to maintaining a tidy environment for guests.

  • Limited Number of Spots: With "9 total spots," the park offers a more intimate and less crowded experience, which can be seen as a service for those who prefer smaller, more personal camping environments.

It's important to note that the reviews do not mention amenities such as bathhouses, laundry facilities, or recreational areas. Therefore, guests should be prepared to be fully self-contained in their RVs for restroom and shower needs. The focus is clearly on providing essential hookups in a quiet, clean, and conveniently located setting. The "honor system" for payment signifies a low-frills, high-trust operational model.

Features / Highlights

Travel Trailer Center Inc. distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that appeal to a specific type of RV traveler, particularly those valuing simplicity, quietness, and convenience.

  • Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: A predominant highlight is the park's "quiet" environment. This makes it an ideal spot for those seeking a peaceful night's sleep or a calm retreat, away from the noise and bustle often found in larger, more active campgrounds. Even with 3 RVs parked, it remained quiet.

  • Prime Riverside Location: The campground is situated "right on the river" (the Ohio River). This offers beautiful views and a serene setting, providing a picturesque backdrop for a relaxing stay. The presence of the river adds to the tranquil ambiance and potential for scenic enjoyment.

  • Small and Intimate Setting: With "9 total spots," the park is notably "small," which contributes to its quiet nature and offers a more intimate camping experience. This can be a major draw for those who prefer to avoid large, crowded campgrounds.

  • Honor System Payment: The operation on an "honor system, paying with cash in an envelope in a metal box," is a unique feature. This provides a flexible and trusting check-in and payment process, especially convenient for late arrivals when no staff might be present.

  • Clean Environment: The park is described as "Clean" by a customer, indicating that the property is well-maintained and tidy, which is a crucial aspect for any comfortable RV stay.

  • Convenient Stopover Point: The park's utility as a stopover is highlighted by a customer who used it "both on our way, and way back from Myrtle Beach." This suggests its excellent suitability for transient travelers needing a reliable and quiet place to rest.

  • Accessibility to Parkersburg: While providing a quiet escape, its location in Parkersburg means that essential city amenities, services, and attractions are within easy reach, offering a balance of seclusion and convenience.

While some perceive it as "expensive" and note a potential for social dynamics among guests, the core features of quietness, riverfront location, small size, and an honor-based system make it a distinct and appealing option for many RVers.

Promotions or Special Offers

Specific, publicly advertised promotions or special offers for Travel Trailer Center Inc., operating as an RV park, are not detailed in the provided customer reviews. The park's unique "honor system" payment method suggests a streamlined, perhaps non-promotional, approach to pricing.

The comment "It's expensive. Very nice place if you can afford it" indicates that their standard pricing might be perceived as higher by some, which implies that a consistent "discount" or "offer" might not be a regular feature. However, the consistent return of a customer "when passing through" suggests that the value for money is still compelling for those who prioritize the quiet, clean, and convenient riverfront location.

Given the operational model, it is unlikely that they would have complex promotional schemes. Instead, any "special offer" would likely manifest as:

  • Standard Competitive Pricing: Their set nightly rate is likely considered their consistent offer, balancing the benefits of their prime location and quiet atmosphere.

  • Potential for Longer Stay Rates: While not stated, some small RV parks might offer a slight reduction in the per-night rate for stays of a week or longer, although this would need direct confirmation.

Since there is no formal office or management regularly on-site (due to the honor system), direct inquiry about any potential discounts or different rates would typically be through the provided phone numbers. However, given the lack of mentioned promotions, it's safer for prospective guests to assume a straightforward pricing structure and confirm the current rate before arriving.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For West Virginia locals, Travel Trailer Center Inc. in Parkersburg offers a uniquely suitable RV camping experience, particularly for those who prioritize peace, convenience, and a straightforward approach to travel within their home state.

Firstly, its standout feature for locals is its "quiet" atmosphere, coupled with a prime "right on the river" location. This offers a serene backdrop for relaxation, whether for a quick overnight stop or a slightly longer stay while exploring the Parkersburg area. The small size, with only "9 total spots," further guarantees this intimate and uncrowded experience, a valuable commodity for those seeking true tranquility.

Secondly, the "honor system" of payment provides a level of flexibility and trust that can be very convenient for locals. It eliminates the need for formal check-in procedures, streamlining the process and making it a hassle-free option for spontaneous trips or planned stopovers.

Furthermore, despite its simplicity, the park is described as "Clean," which is a fundamental requirement for any comfortable RV stay. Knowing that the facilities are well-maintained ensures a pleasant experience. Its strategic location in Parkersburg means that while the campground itself is quiet, locals still have easy access to all the amenities and attractions of a major city – from dining and shopping to historical sites and local events. This balance of secluded tranquility with urban convenience is highly desirable for West Virginians using their RVs for both leisure and practical travel within the state.

In conclusion, Travel Trailer Center Inc. is an excellent fit for West Virginia locals seeking a quiet, clean, and conveniently located RV park on the Ohio River. It's ideal for those who appreciate a straightforward camping experience, trust-based operations, and the beauty of their home state without the need for extensive on-site luxuries. We spent a total of 3 nights here both on our way, and way back from Myrtle Beach. It is small, but quiet and right on the river. The first time we stopped nobody was there, and on the way back 3 RV's were parked. I believe it has 9 total spots and it works on the honor system, paying with cash in an envelope in a metal box. We'll keep coming here when passing through.

Stayed here one night while passing through. The place was nicely mowed and very quiet. Right on large river. Water and electric but we didn't use water. Will stay here again if ever in the area. We were the only ones there.
