Location and Accessibility
Camp Barbe is conveniently located at 1848 Co Rte 4/4, Elizabeth, WV 26143, USA. This address places it within Wirt County, a beautiful and accessible region of West Virginia. Elizabeth, the county seat, offers a charming small-town atmosphere, providing a welcoming backdrop for the camp's activities.
Accessibility to Camp Barbe is generally straightforward, with the camp situated on a well-maintained county route. This ensures relatively easy access for a variety of vehicles, including RVs and those transporting equipment for events. The camp's design, which includes "Lots of parking for the fair," indicates a well-planned layout that can accommodate a significant number of visitors during peak event times. Despite its capacity for large gatherings, the location still offers a sense of being in a rural, natural setting, away from heavy traffic or urban congestion. This balance of accessibility and a semi-secluded environment makes it a practical and appealing destination for families and groups from across West Virginia looking to participate in events or enjoy a camping experience. While the specific layout and condition of all internal roads aren't detailed, the focus on hosting large public events suggests a functional and navigable space for visitors once on the property. Its proximity to the town of Elizabeth also means that essential services and supplies are never too far away.
Services Offered
Features / Highlights
Promotions or Special Offers
As a facility that primarily functions as fairgrounds and a community event space, Camp Barbe's "promotions" are typically linked to specific events rather than ongoing camping discounts in the way a commercial RV park might offer. Pricing for camping, if available to the general public outside of fair periods, would likely be straightforward.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on event schedules, admission costs for the Wirt County Fair, camping availability, and any associated fees, it is highly recommended to visit the official Wirt County Fair website or contact Camp Barbe directly. Local community calendars and social media pages for the Wirt County Fair are also excellent resources.
Contact Information
Given its primary function as a fairground and event space, the most reliable way to get detailed information about camping opportunities outside of major events, or to inquire about facility rentals, is to directly search for contact information related to the Wirt County Fair Board or local Wirt County government/extension office that manages the property.
Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For West Virginians, Camp Barbe is more than just a piece of land; it's a vibrant thread in the fabric of our community, making it an exceptionally suitable destination for locals. Its role as a dynamic hub for events, particularly the beloved Wirt County Fair, resonates deeply with our shared cultural heritage and love for local traditions.
The customer reviews, while practical, highlight its inherent value to the community. "Lots of parking for the fair" directly speaks to the practicality and accessibility for local families attending events. The enthusiasm for "The fireworks are great" emphasizes the memorable experiences created right here in our own backyard. These are the moments that truly define local life in West Virginia, bringing neighbors and friends together for shared celebration.
The feedback about the bathrooms ("big but not stocked very well") and the stage area ("needs to be redone... concrete is cracked") provides transparent insights that locals can appreciate. We understand that local facilities, particularly those hosting large, rustic events, might have areas for improvement, but their enduring charm and community value often outweigh minor imperfections. It suggests a focus on functionality and community use rather than luxury, which aligns with the down-to-earth West Virginia spirit.
Moreover, the sentiment that "It is set up for adventure and fun! I think everyone should try to venture out to Camp Barbe!" captures the essence of what many West Virginians seek: a place for active engagement and enjoyment. Whether it's the thrill of a rodeo, the excitement of a fair, or simply enjoying the "Nice big area" for camping and play, Camp Barbe offers diverse opportunities for recreation and connection. It truly acts as a central gathering point, celebrating our local culture and providing a cherished space for making "adventure and fun" accessible to all. It's a genuine slice of West Virginia life, waiting to be explored and enjoyed by those of us who call this beautiful state home.

Lots of parking for the fair. Bathrooms are big but not stocked very well. Nice big area. The fireworks are great. The stage area needs to be redone. The concrete is cracked and people always trip over it. Behind the stage is very small and so is the stage.
