As a part of the Virginia State Parks system, Chesterfield Campground (within Pocahontas State Park) typically operates under standard state park pricing and reservation policies rather than offering frequent, short-term commercial promotions. However, there are inherent value propositions and booking advantages that Virginians should be aware of:
- Consistent Pricing: Virginia State Parks generally maintain stable and transparent pricing for their campsites, which can be a "special offer" in itself by providing predictable and often more affordable rates compared to private campgrounds, especially for well-equipped sites.
- Advanced Reservations: While not a discount, the ability to reserve campsites up to 11 months in advance is a significant benefit, especially for popular sites or during peak seasons. This allows Virginians to plan their trips well ahead of time and secure their preferred spot.
- Value of Amenities: The inclusion of electric hookups, potable water at each site, clean fire pits, and access to well-maintained bathhouses and park amenities is a strong value proposition, providing comfort and convenience often at a lower cost than some private facilities offering similar features.
- Annual State Park Passes: For frequent visitors to Virginia State Parks, an annual park pass (such as the Virginia State Parks Naturally Yours Passport) can offer excellent value, covering parking fees and potentially providing discounts on other park services, although it typically doesn't directly reduce camping fees.
- Off-Season Rates: While not always advertised as a "promotion," camping during the off-season (typically late fall through early spring) often comes with lower rates and fewer crowds, providing a more serene and cost-effective experience.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, and specific booking policies, Virginians should visit the official Virginia State Parks website or call Pocahontas State Park directly. The park staff can provide comprehensive details on current pricing, reservation procedures, and any seasonal information relevant to your visit.

Customer Reviews
Very nice flat and spacious campsites. Some are better shaded for mornings whereas others are better shaded for afternoons. The room between campsites is very generous but watch out in the summer and fall months as there's lots of poison ivy around here! There is plenty of honor system firewood for $7 per bucket. Campsites each have their own clean and well taken care of fire pits, Plug-In electricity to charge things like cell phones or batteries, and Water faucet with potable (drinkable) water.
Great campsite, simple and family oriented. You can walk to trail heads, lake for canoeing and swimming, or just relax. Unfortunately the bathrooms near where i chose my site are permenately closed and had to go to opposite end of grounds for facilities.
The campsite was good the bathrooms were nice and the showers were better than I expected. The dogs were awesome and there was no problem in the campsite. The only thing is it's kinda hard to get to the campsite with Google maps because it isn't marked well. Overall a good experience.
This state park was huge and campground spreadout. Electric and water at sites, dump station near entrance. We came in after dark, no lights on roadways inside park...hard to see site numbers in dark. Stayed 2 nights, no problems for our 45' rv on a pull thru sight. Downfall to this is the 2 lane winding city road with housing areas with lots of traffic that doesn't tolerate slow rvs on dark winding road well. Be sure to use this road between work traffic if possible. Otherwise great park.
We had a great time camping. It was quiet and we'll organized. We really enjoyed the aquatic facility which had pools and a splash pad with slides (free with campsite rental). The hiking trails are also really nice.
