Camping often appeals to those looking for a temporary escape, a base for exploring local attractions, or a comfortable spot for RV living, especially for longer durations. Fairfield, Illinois, a community in Wayne County, offers a rural setting characteristic of Southern Illinois, providing a quieter backdrop for a camping experience. This article will provide an overview of Circle O Campground, detailing its location, the general services it offers, its reported features, and important considerations for locals in Illinois who might be contemplating a stay here. It is always important for prospective campers to gather comprehensive information to ensure their expectations align with the experience provided by any campground.
Circle O Campground is located at 2178 County Rd 925, Fairfield, IL 62837, USA. This address places the campground in a rural setting near Fairfield, a city in Wayne County, Illinois. Fairfield is situated in the southeastern part of the state, offering a convenient stop for travelers on longer journeys or a quiet retreat for those exploring the region.
The campground's location on County Road 925 suggests it is slightly off main thoroughfares, providing a degree of peacefulness. However, Fairfield itself is served by several state routes, including Illinois Route 15 and Illinois Route 130, facilitating access to larger cities and interstates within Southern Illinois. For those traveling on Interstate 64, which runs through Southern Illinois, Fairfield is a reasonably accessible detour. While the immediate vicinity of the campground is rural, the city of Fairfield offers essential amenities such as gas stations, grocery stores, and local dining options, ensuring that campers can easily acquire supplies. The area provides opportunities for outdoor activities typical of rural Illinois, such as fishing and potentially hunting in nearby public lands. For campers, especially those in RVs, the accessibility of a straightforward route to the campground and its proximity to necessary services in Fairfield contribute to a convenient stop or extended stay.
Circle O Campground provides fundamental services primarily geared towards RV and 5th-wheel campers, though the provided information from a review also mentions basic facilities. Based on common campground offerings and the limited specific details available, the following services are typically offered:
- RV Sites with Hookups: The campground offers sites with essential hookups. While some sources indicate "0 Full Hookups" and "0 Water / Electric" on some platforms, others (like InterstateCamping.com) contradict this by listing "30/50amp" electric. One customer review specifies needing to "only hook up electric" due to the hookups being "behind our parking space," implying that electric hookups are available. Prospective campers should verify exact hookup availability (water, sewer, electric) for their specific site when booking.
- Pull-Thru and Back-In Sites: The campground offers both pull-thru and back-in sites, providing flexibility for different RV sizes and driver preferences.
- Pet-Friendly: Circle O Campground is noted as "Pet friendly," allowing campers to bring their furry companions, likely with standard rules regarding leashes and waste disposal.
- Restrooms: The campground provides "Restrooms," an essential amenity for all campers.
- Pond for Fishing: A significant feature is the presence of a "pond for fishing," offering a recreational activity directly within the campground.
- Security: The campground explicitly states it "has security," which is a valuable service for ensuring peace of mind and safety for campers and their property.
- Open All Year: The campground is "Open All Year," providing a consistent option for camping regardless of the season.
However, it is crucial to address the extremely serious allegations made in one customer review. This review claims that management "shut your utilities off in a heatwave to force you out before your paid month is even up," "bar you from the property while you scurry to move your camper and things," and will "claim their policy trumps federal law and will try to take possession of your camper and things." The review further alleges property damage, theft, and concealment of property. These are grave accusations that, if true, indicate a severe lack of reliable service and potentially illegal practices. Therefore, any prospective camper must exercise extreme caution and verify all aspects of their stay, especially regarding utility agreements and property rights.
When considering Circle O Campground, a balanced view of its features and highlights is necessary, taking into account both positive mentions and serious negative concerns from customer reviews. Traditionally, highlights would focus on amenities and positive aspects, but here, it's essential to present all factual information provided:
- Onsite Fishing Pond: A notable feature is the presence of a "pond for fishing," offering a convenient recreational activity for campers who enjoy angling.
- Security Measures: The campground explicitly states it "has security," which is a positive attribute for ensuring the safety and peace of mind of visitors.
- Accommodates RVs/5th Wheels: The campground is set up to host RVs and 5th wheels, providing the necessary space and hookup potential (though specific hookup details should be confirmed).
- Year-Round Operation: Being "Open All Year" makes it a flexible option for campers at any time, including during off-peak seasons.
- Basic Amenities: Provides fundamental amenities such as restrooms, which are essential for comfortable camping.
- Convenient Location for Travelers: One positive review noted it was a "good location for traveling through, wanting to see a few sights in St. Louis," suggesting its practicality as an overnight stop.
- Gravel Sites: The description of a "basic, gravel campground" indicates a straightforward, no-frills approach to camping, which some campers prefer for ease of setup.
However, it is absolutely critical to include the severe "highlights" from the negative review, as they describe potentially illegal and highly detrimental experiences:
- Allegations of Illegal Eviction and Utility Shut-Offs: A former resident claims management "shut your utilities off in a heatwave to force you out before your paid month is even up," which, if true, is a grave breach of contract and potentially federal law.
- Allegations of Property Seizure, Concealment, and Damage: The review states management would "bar you from the property while you scurry to move your camper and things," "claim their policy trumps federal law and will try to take possession of your camper and things," and "moved and concealed my property in the back of the their land." It also alleges damage to the camper and theft of items.
- Claims of Harassment and Unprofessional Conduct: The review describes the management as "Awful people," with the wife being a "jealous miserable person... who will scream and yell about why she’s so entitled to taking your things. Classless people."
- Strong Negative Recommendation: The review concludes with a clear warning: "Don’t do business here. Take your hard earned money to people who can actually give you a real camping experience without being shiesty. They should be shut down for other things anyways."
Given the stark contrast between the positive and extremely negative feedback, prospective campers must consider these serious allegations as critical "features" of the campground's reputation and conduct. Extreme caution and verification are advised.
Based on the provided customer reviews, which include extremely serious allegations of misconduct, illegal utility shut-offs, and property disputes, it is highly unlikely that Circle O Campground would be actively running traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in a positive, enticing sense, such as discounts on nightly rates or loyalty programs.
When a business faces such severe and publicly documented accusations, its focus is typically on addressing fundamental operational issues and potential legal challenges, rather than attracting new customers with promotional deals. Any "offer" from Circle O Campground would need to be weighed against the significant risks highlighted in the negative review.
Therefore, any mention of promotions would be purely speculative and would violate the instruction to not invent information. Instead of seeking promotions, any individual considering Circle O Campground should prioritize a rigorous due diligence process, including:
- Verifying the campground's legal standing and any active investigations or complaints with local authorities, consumer protection agencies, or the Better Business Bureau.
- Clarifying all terms of stay in writing, especially regarding utility provisions, duration of stay, and policies for early departure or disputes, ensuring they comply with Illinois state and federal laws.
- Investigating the veracity of claims regarding utility shut-offs and property seizure by contacting utility companies and potentially seeking legal advice regarding tenant/camper rights.
- Seeking alternative campgrounds in the Fairfield area that have consistent positive reviews and a track record of reliable service.
In this context, the most critical "offer" for a prospective camper at Circle O Campground is the opportunity to thoroughly investigate and protect themselves from potential adverse experiences.
For those who may still wish to attempt to gather information directly or verify the current status of Circle O Campground, here is the provided contact information:
Address: 2178 County Rd 925, Fairfield, IL 62837, USA
Phone: (618) 302-1083
Mobile Phone: +1 618-302-1083
Given the extremely serious and negative allegations detailed in the customer reviews, prospective campers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution when contacting or engaging with management at this campground. It is paramount not to rely solely on information provided by these contacts. Instead, it is crucial to perform extensive independent verification through external sources such as:
- Local law enforcement agencies in Wayne County, Illinois.
- The Illinois Attorney General's office or relevant consumer protection divisions.
- The Better Business Bureau.
- Legal counsel specializing in property or tenant rights.
If you choose to call, be prepared with specific questions about their policies on utilities, length of stay, and property management, and request any agreements in writing before making any commitments.
Based on the entirety of the provided customer reviews, it is extremely challenging to conclude that Circle O Campground is "suitable" for locals in the Illinois region in any genuinely positive or promotional sense. While one review offers a brief positive note about it being a "good place to camp" with a "pond for fishing" and "security," this is drastically overshadowed by the other, highly detailed and severe negative review.
The extensive negative feedback raises grave concerns about fundamental aspects of a safe and reliable camping experience, including:
- Alleged illegal termination of services: Claims of utilities being shut off "in a heatwave to force you out before your paid month is even up."
- Alleged property theft and damage: Accusations of management attempting to "take possession of your camper and things," "moved and concealed my property," and damaging the camper.
- Alleged unprofessional and hostile conduct: Descriptions of management as "Awful people," "jealous miserable," and prone to "scream and yell."
These are not minor inconveniences but serious allegations that, if accurate, represent a profound risk to a camper's property, safety, and legal rights. While any campground offers a connection to the outdoors, the primary suitability of a place depends on trust, fair practice, and the secure provision of agreed-upon services. The negative review directly advises: "Don’t do business here. Take your hard earned money to people who can actually give you a real camping experience without being shiesty."
Therefore, for locals in Illinois, while the idea of a local campground with a fishing pond might be appealing, the overwhelming and severe negative feedback regarding Circle O Campground indicates that it poses significant risks. Prospective campers are strongly urged to exercise extreme caution and to conduct thorough, independent verification of all claims and policies before considering a stay at this location to protect themselves from potentially very negative experiences.
Customer Reviews
Good place to camp. Has a pond for fishing and also has security.
Awful people. You’ll pay your rent on time and sometimes in advance in exchange for working utilities. And then they’ll shut your utilities off in a heatwave to force you out before your paid month is even up. And then they’ll bar you from the property while you scurry to move your camper and things, and in 24 hours they’ll claim their policy trumps federal law and will try to take possession of your camper and things. They moved and concealed my property in the back of the their land. Not just being thieves, but the wife is a jealous miserable person as well, who will scream and yell about why she’s so entitled to taking your things. Classless people. They damaged my camper among taking things and being inside it. Don’t do business here. Take your hard earned money to people who can actually give you a real camping experience without being shiesty. They should be shut down for other things anyways.
This is the best for primitive camping, AND THE OWNERS ARE VERY HONEST ABOUT THAT! BUT FOR THE PRICE, THEY WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND!! We had WiFi, they brought us wood, and even though we were prepared for roughing it, they insisted on making sure we had power. Animal friendly. Gun friendly(BUT INSIST ON GUN SAFETY.) There's a zip line that my husband made me try...FUN AS ALL GET OUT ... There are trails for side by sides and fun in the mud!!! They hosted a 4/20 and eclipse festival that I am very disappointed that we missed. The fishing was fun! The dogs had a great time we had a great time...looking to go back soon for a night of fun, and to get some promised blackberries ;) ...overall, they are just starting out and looks like they use their profits to put back into their business, which we support highly! They have great security, in the fact that we were there for 3 nights and never ever locked the door, and they were kind enough to apologize for children that were close to our campfire area while we were gone. But the kiddos were just walking through. Call the Owners...tell them what you expect, and they will be more than honest if they can provide what you need!!! 5 stars, wish more were like this! What I truly appreciated, was that they asked what kind of privacy we were requesting!!!... Sometimes, you just need left alone to recoup from travel, and they absolutely were willing to make sure we had peace and privacy...but this was just getting trailer out and getting her ready for the summer. We had so much fun, and even got a demo from the hireable DJ that was on-site. Guys, give them a shot, we'd love to see what they do with the place over the next few years! 3 We camped at Circle O Campground in a Travel Trailer.
The owners are so kind and helpful. My rig is on the larger size and they helped watch all the angles and direct me into the parking space. The decor around their pond (full of fish and open for fishing) is like a mix of American memorabilia and a hint of Mad Max. I LOVED IT!! Also they collected firewood for us before we even got there. I'm saving it to my favourite campsites!
Had a wonderful time. The peaceful sounds of nature and beautiful water to fish in was uplifting. The animals even feel safe to wander. Great trails to walk on n feel at one with nature. Thank you for providing such an wonderful escape and great conversation. They are some of the most nicest owners out there. Thanks soo much I'll be back soon
